  1. Sorry, I guess I should have added that. I have an eTrex Vista HCx. Right now, I use GSAK to load geocaches and I have a bunch of Garmin maps I've purchased (city navigator and some topo maps). I don't use any other software on the PC side now...that's what I'm asking about here...
  2. Yes, I'm new at this. I've been geocaching (in an urban setting) for a couple of months (just passed 100 finds...woot!) and I'm a casual hiker. I've recorded tracks for a couple of my hikes lately and I'd like to transfer them over to my PC and get all geeky overlaying them onto maps and getting details about the hikes (chief among them would be things like elevation charts showing how high and how fast I climbed). What software do you all use for doing this? Any best practices or recommendations? Thanks! Dan
  3. While hunting for a Geocache near Woodside, California, I found this benchmark (see attached image). Or, at least I assume it's a benchmark from the word "BENCHMARK" on it. Not sure how to log it, though...Any help identifying it?
  4. Got my v2008 from Amazon.com, quite happy with their service. I have a Vista HCx...does it matter if I buy CN NT or just CN?
  5. I have a Vista HCx...Can I load the caches as POIs from GSAK? Or must I use the Garmin software?
  6. I just started using GSAK - great software! - but I'd like to change it so that the GCXXX number goes across in the "notes" fields to my Garmin instead of the current (default) title data. Any suggestions how I could do that? Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the info, Chip! How long has the PN-20 been out? I'm curious about whether it's had time to work bugs out of the system and how frequently the firmware releases are coming.
  8. I was in REI yesterday playing with a Triton. The touchscreen was neat to use. I love the idea of the camera...And having a little LED flashlight seems nice. The size of the screen was good and the unit got a lock inside the building where the Garmin next to it could not. So before buying, I decided to read feedback here...Boy, what a mixed bag. Issues with the cable (!), issues with support, issues with...Sheesh. What to do? Does anyone have a Triton up and working? How good is the paperless support? Thanks! (I'm dying to get my hands on a new toy)
  9. I have the option of keeping a new Nuvi 650 if I want it (I have to trade off something of equal value)...And since I'm sort of in the market for a replacement for my much-loved, bug aged, GPS 3+, I was wondering if this might be my answer... I understand it's a good vehicle GPS...but how is it for caching? Any thoughts? Thanks!
