  1. Okay. I Had something happen today and wasn't sure on how to handle the situation. We had a new cache placed in town and it was a tough one to find. I went to it last night and looked for about an hour and a half. This one had me puzzled. It had not been found yet, and the owner posted that he would not give out any clues until the FTF had been logged and verified. Well, I went back to it after work and continued my search when another cacher happened in. She was very nice and asked if I had found it yet. We talked and looked but nothing. I kept looking at one particular area when another cacher showed up. Well, I kinda sat back and let the two of then have at it. The second one that showed up did find it and logged into the cache. I congratulated him and was leaving when the first cacher asked if I was going to log into the cache. I told her no as I did not find it. She said it didn't matter beings we were all together. I just told them that I diodn't feel right about logging it as I did not find it. I told them that I would post a note on it when I got home. Now, my question is...what do you do when another cacher comes when you are looking for it. What do you do when you come upon some one that is looking. Myself, if I happen on someone looking for the cache, I leave the area until they are done. It has meant me going back home and returning another day. Myself, I just felt it very rude. In the further I will leave if someone else comes in and starts looking when I am. I can not log it as a find forI Idid not find it. Just curious as to how others handle this situation.
  2. I have gone to plenty that are in parks, and some in large cities. I have passed a few because of the activity that was around, and just planed to go get them later when I felt it wouldn't be quite so busy. I would plant it and those that don't feel comfortable being watched, well, then it is just there loss. It's all part of the game. Have fun with your first cache. When you do place it, I would like a link to it and see how it goes. Just being curious. Take care, Have fun, Be safe--- YB4

  4. Okay. My memorie isn't what it use to be. A couple years ago I placed a Micro cache and some where on the Geocaching site i found a Mini log that you could print out and place in the cache. Any ideas of where it is? I need to replace the original one. Thanks
  5. Atlantagal has it right! I just got my 60CS and it is like sooo awesome
  6. I would love to win. When I am through with it I will pass it on in the same manor.
  7. I have never hidden a cache for members only and never will. I subscribe only to help support the web site! It is by far the best and can only get better from every one pitching in. It is so well worth it. There-thats my $3.00 worth..
  8. If interested I have a e-trex summit. Very new condition. If interested--e-mail me.
  9. That's funny. What the H does "take into account" mean? Seems to imply that the the distance recorded by the trip computer is the hypoteneus of the horizontal/vertical triangle. I would be EXTREMELY surprised if that were the case as land measurements are by convention and common sense always measured horizontally. In practical terms (normal topography), if you were measuring elevation changes accurately (yeah right) it wouldn't make much difference because all but the steepest routes a person is likely to take on the Earth are nearly flat horizontal. I'll go out on a limb here and suppose that this "Product Support Specialist" is either sadly misinformed, or makes up answers when he doesn't know the right one. Still, I suppose it's possible that the Garmin engineers decided that consumers, believing that distances are measured along the undulating surface of the Earth, need to have their GPSRs measure them that way. Where's the shaking head smiley when you need it? Hmmmm---your right---where is the shaking head when you need it. For in your case, you won't believe the facts when presented to you. Thats ok---I am happy with the answer I received from GARMIN.
  10. At last, I have the answer . I cantacted Garmin with the same question, and the following is Garmins responce! Thank you for contacting Garmin International, I'd be happy to help with that. The trip computer will take accent and descent into account. Before a trip clear it out and the distance shown there will include ascent and descent. When you initiate a GOTO the distance shown there is purely horizontal. 11. I hope I am able to ask this question so it makes sense as to what I want to know . We have been discussing for quiet some time now as to whether the gps distance readings are accurate when going on hikes that include a lot of climbing in elevation and descending. The best way I can describe what I am asking is to put it in an exaggerated question---if you had a ladder that extended vertical for lets say 1/2 mile---and climbed it, would the gps show that you had in fact traveled 1/2 mile even though you were traveling vertical instead of horizontal? Hope someone can answer this question . Thanks--Yankeeboy4
  12. We tried packing tape and it worked fine till you wanted to replace it. Oh what fun to try and get the sticky glue off. We have paid the extra for the PDA protectors. quote:Originally posted by Northern Trekker:I use wide, clear packing tape. I use the same thing on my PDA, my cell phone screen and my kids' gameboy screen. When it starts to show some wear, I just pull it off and start again. I could probably do 100 GPS units for about $4. my $0.02 Northern Trekker
  13. You mentioned a topic I had not even thought about. I guess that in some areas dogs would be a problem. Now I really feel fortunate to live in an area that it isnt even an issue. In fact, if you don't have your four legged buddy with you, people think there must be something wrong with you.
  14. do you take your dog caching with you?
  15. I have a friend who is having to move and wants me to adopt his caches---can someone tell me how we can go about this so it shows me as the owner of his caches?

  18. quote:Originally posted by Smitherington:I have a Garmin EMap. To create a waypoint I hold the ENTER button for 2 seconds. I then use the UP/DOWN arrows to go to the name. I press enter and use the UP/DOWN arrows to scroll through the alphapet to create a name. When finished with the name I press ENTER again and use the DOWN arrow to go to the coordinates. I press ENTER and use the UP/DOWN arrows to enter the correct Latitude and Longitude. When finished I press ENTER again. If I want to go to that waypoint I use the UP/DOWN arrows to move to GO TO and press enter. THen follow the arrow. I am sure the other GPSr units use a similar method. Happy caching. Thanks for the advice. With your help I now can enter the way points[] Thanks again
  19. I have lost the instruction book for my Garmin GPS III--how do I go about entering the Long and Lat. and use that for a GOTO , THANKS
