  1. Like others have already said comparing the 60csx and the Oregon is like comparing apples and oranges. I have both and while I'm enjoying the Oregon I really miss some of the features of the CSX. They both have their Pro's and Con's and I'm sure one day I'll be saying the same thing about the missing features on the Oregon when I upgrade to the next new and improved unit. Here's a short list of things I miss from the 60csx. I'm sure this list will grow since I've only had the Oregon for a week so far, but at the same time I wouldn't give up the Oregon either. the ability to edit waypoint info in the field, this includes being able to change the coords while going thru the stages of a multi, deleting a waypoint after a find to declutter the map, or even being able to rename a waypoint. I miss the custom Icons you can use with the csx. Although with the paperless caching on the Oregon you really don't need custom icons. the quick mark button on the csx and the ability to average a set of coordinates
  2. I post my pics to my web shots account and then use the HTML code generated by webshots in the long description box of the cache page
  3. Hmmm... don't remember that announcement. Did they announce it in the forums or in the weekly mailer? Don't know if I would consider that function as GC.com being the travel bug police but rather a courtesy reminder. While I do believe you should police your own habits, it was also convenient to be able see if you had any older TB's with just a quick glance at your inventory.
  4. The asterisk on your trackable inventory list that showed you had a TB/coin in your possession for more than two weeks. It disappeared some time in the past few months (maybe longer and I just didn't notice sooner). Sure would be nice to have that feature back. It helped with making sure you moved any older TB's you had in your possession first. If any of TPTB are reading this maybe you can look into adding that back in on the next site upgrade.
  5. Lets say you attend an event and the event host hands out a list of unpublished caches to everyone in attendance to go out and find the day of the event. Then the day after the event they are published. Does that make everyone who found the caches the day of the event a Beta tester? In the opinions of some that I have read on here none of those cachers qualify as the FTF'er since the cache was not published yet. My opinion is FTF is FTF published or not. Once the log has been signed it's a done deal.
  6. February 20 by xxxxx (33 found) We found the location even though this one is out of service.
  7. May 4 by XXXXxxx (542 found) Since were with the cache owner, and we needed to eat, we said lets go out to the beach and eat near the Mr Jacks Ribs cache. After a great meal and conversation, both of the cache owners suggested we use our fancy schmansy Colorado and see if we can find it, due to all the DNF's. We get to ground zero and ask the cache owners are we close or are the buildings causing us to be off. They said we were within a "Normal GZ area" 5-10 feet. We started our search, and I notice the wife is looking in an odd place. Then I see the strange look on the owners face, its MIA, BUT had it been there they said we would have found it, 100%. So we should log the find, but it is MIA. Glad we were with them.
  8. If there is still room could you add roundnround we go. thanks
  9. Heres one for a cache that was archived and relisted with a new GC number Found it previously, DNSL, the less people who have already found it go back to sign again, the less chance of being muggled.
  10. Good chance thats the one. Thats one of the few we did in that area before we joined up with Cache & Keri, rock&crystal and the rest of the gang on the cache train that day.
  11. Went out caching with relatives today. We hit alot of caches that I have done in the past and one thing really hit me while I compared the areas from the time that I found them to today. People seem to be forgetting what I consider to be one of the top rules of geocaching. Respect the land. A few of the spots that had a little tougher hide had the areas around the cache look like a mini tornado touched down. People had totally destroyed the vegetation by trampling over it or just plain yanking it out of the ground to get a better view. Come on people would you appreciate someone coming to your back yard and leaving it this way. We have a constant roll over on cachers in the area as old names and faces fade away and new ones surface. Somewhere in all of this it feels like the new breed of cachers are are more focused on getting that smiley at whatever cost. After seeing all this today I thought I would post a link to "The Geocachers Creed . Hopefully people will reed it and think about it next time they are out on the hunt. Maybe you can even add a link to your cache listings to remind others.
  12. Seems like the biggest majority would much rather go to an event just to socialize and sample all of the pot luck food and not have all of the distractions of little mini events or games. If your gonna have something like a poker run maybe it should be held earlier in the day so that it doesn't interfere with the main event. Team Madog mentioned a Murder Mystery Cache with sounds interesting. If anyone knows how this works Fill us in. Might be a good idea for a Halloween event. There seems to be alot of good info in so far. Keep the ides rolling in
  13. There are quite a few people out there that would probably like to hold an event but don't because they can't come up with ideas of things to do at the event. Sure all events start out by getting cachers together to swap war stories and catch up with old friends while making new ones. But what other types of activities would all of you find interesting to do at an event? Lets put together a list that everyone can come back to for ideas. Here's a few to start, these came out of the Ice Cream Mans Event Handbook. Now you add in some ideas for games and other things that can be done to keep things interesting and make for a memorable event. Geo-Bingo - Each guest is given a sheet with a grid of squares on it. Each square has a statement in it, such as "Less than 100 finds" or "Required medical treatment while caching" or "Caches with a geo-dog". Participants must then attempt to locate fellow Geocachers in attendance that match those statements and have them sign the appropriate square. The first full sheet wins. Link to a sample Geo-Bingo card Three things about you - Each guest is given a slip containing the name of another guest along with several questions about that person, such as Hometown, Favorite Cache and Real First Name. They must find that person and get answers to the questions. To make it more interesting, guests are divided into teams. In order to complete the activity all team members must have their slips completed. This requires people to find their team members and help them find the player on their slip to get the answers to the questions .
  14. Sure would be nice if the "View Listing" link would get put back on the Edit listing page. That link made creating a listing much friendlier process. If your anything like us we go back and forth between the edit page and the listing about a hundred time while trying to get things the way we want them.
  15. I found that link attached to some of Team Desert Eagles archived caches. You really have to laugh at the sender. He's such a "BIG MAN" hiding behind his little sock puppet.
  16. The Cache you are looking for was Big Boy. It was archived because someone decided that they were the cache police and sent Team Desert Eagle this threat. Seems like there is always someone trying to ruin the game for everyone. Since the treat Team Desert Eagle has archived almost all of their caches or had them stolen.
  17. I guess notifications aren't being blocked the are just getting lost in the system somehow. I just received a couple more of my PQ's from Friday. But I still haven't received any notification of the newly published caches in my area. I guess I'll get them sometime next week. Seems like the only thing I can do now is sit back and hope the problem corrects itself.
  18. You're not the only one. I also recently started having problems with PQ's and new listing notifications. Geo caching.com will show them as sent, but I never receive them. Or if I do it's hours or even days later. I have Knology for my internet provider. When I called Knology about my problem they told me they couldn't see a problem on their side. They also checked to make sure the geocaching.com was not black listed. Today I sent a PQ to my knology account and my Yahoo account, Yahoo received it right away with no problems so it makes it look like the problem is on the Knology side, but I don't know how to get it fixed. Any suggestions on a remedy for this would be much appreciated. Thanks

  20. OK lets go ahead and close this. Didnt realize that I posted in the wrong group. I search the topics you provided. and maybee repost in the geocoin group. thanks for the help.
  21. Let see what the general concensus on this is. Just wondering what everyone thinks about this. We went to a travel bug hotel over the past weekend to do some coin and bug swaps. When we opened the container we found that all of the coins listed were just laminated photos of the original coin showing the tracking number. there was nothing in the description of the coins to indicate this. The part that had us the most upset was that we drove 2 hours to this location just to do the coin swaps. If we would have known they were copies we would have skiped this cache and waited for anothe day. So I guess my question is... do you think this is something that should be acceptable, taking credit for a coin discovery for a photo of the acual coin? I don't so so I just skipped logging them.
  22. Went back and looked again and there it was right next to the edit button. Sure helps if you read everything on the page. Guess once I saw the edit button I just stoped reading, thought the delete button was going to be on the edit page. Once again thanks for the help. We have only been doing this for about a month so we still have alot to learn.
  23. Thanks for the help. I went and changed it to a note and explained what happened and our find count has been corrected. While editing I dont remember seeing an option to delete the post. I'll look again and try to remember that if it ever happens again.
