GPSMap60CSx is an awesome unit! I almost bought another one. I bought the Colorado when it was first released and it was a love/hate relationship from day one. After the updates, it got better but the unit still acted up on occasion. I ended up dropping it while on the trail and it shut off. I went to turn it back on (after checking the batteries) and no dice. It died. I sent it out to Garmin to have it fixed. If you must have the paperless caching on your GPS, I'd strongly suggest the Oregon. I played with one at Best Buy and the touch screen made navigating the menus 1000 times easier than the Colorado's "Rock n' Roller" wheel. I only question the Oregons' durability if dropped on the trail. Other than the screen navigation methods, the two units are practically the same from what I understand. Check out the new Oregon 550; it has a built in camera and 3-axis compass (vs 2-axis in the Colorado and "1st Generation" Oregons). The 3-axis compass is supposed to maintain a bearing even if the unit isn't held flat. That's my two cents. ~H

Hi Jeff, I'll be staying in Brentwood from Tuesday, Sept. 9 though the 13th. I basically have 3 full days for sightseeing and geocaching. I'm renting a car so I have transportation to surrounding areas. I'm not even sure what the terrain is like in middle TN. I hope to rent a mountain bike and ride some trails at parks. I checked out Middle Tennessee Geocaching club too; I just haven't posted anything in thier forums yet. Any suggestions? Thanks, Howard

I've used this GPS for geocaching for the last year and a half. I recently bought a Colorado and have no need for this unit any longer. So, I thought I'd post it here on eBay to see if anyone else would be interested to have an amazing GPS at a very low price. The GPSmap 60CSx is a mapping GPS. This means the unit will give you turn-by-turn directions to your destinations. The unit has a built in electronic compass and altimeter. Most GPS devices need to be moving to "find north." The 60CSx, however, will point north while standing still. The transflective TFT 256-color screen is scratch free and easy to see in daylight. You will notice there is an InvisibleSHEILD brand screen protector installed to ensure your screen will remain scratch free. The back light is useful for night time use. I've experienced 15-18 hours of continuous use with Duracell alkaline AA batteries; 12 to 15 with NiMH rechargeable batteries. This is a great lot! I'm somewhat sad to sell this unit. This is a fair statement. I'm an owner of the GPSmap 60CSx and purchased the Colorado. There is a huge learning curve, in my opinion, between the two units if you consider the Colorado as an "upgrade." If you own any other unit, then the features of the Colorado are probably more than expected and you'll be happy. On several occasions over the last two weeks, I considered shipping this Colorado back because I got frustrated. However, I'm slowly coming around and finding the Colorado to be a pretty functional unit. The last software update, Version 2.40, on February 18, really added some important features that were missing on the Colorado. I wouldn't doubt more updates in the future. While I didn't have the CSx when it was first released, I'm sure it too had it shortcomings in the beginning. If you look at the Garmin site, there are a number of software updates that make the CSx what it is today. I'd expect the same about the Colorado.

Just fyi The 300 has more usable memory than the 400t. Only a hand full of the 400t had more memory. All the new 400t's only have 148mb of usable internal memory. The 300 has 389mb of usable memory. And the 300 has a better world base map too. You can buy the 300 and topo for less than the 400t and have more memory and use the dvd on your computer too. You do raise a good point about usable internal memory, especially now that a single cache waypoint will require more memory for "paperless" data. I suspect a memory card will "fix" that. Out of curiousity... How is the world base map better on the 300 compared to the 400t? What exactly is the difference? You can not load cashe waypoints to sd card. All that info is stored on the units internal memory. The world base map one the 300 has more detail, shows major cities and boarders were the 400t does not have this info on there world base map. Gotcha. So the major cities and border differences are on the basemap. I'll be adding City Navigator to an SD card so I think I'll be fine. Thanks for your input! I'll post again tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is a dead thread or not but I just got a call from MegaGPS.com and the Colorado 400t units arrived today, 2/12/08. Can't wait for tomorrow! :-)

I never had any issues using my GPS on a plane. I always figured the worse case scenario would be haveing a flight attendant ask me to put it away for the duration of the flight. Getting a signal was a bit hairy and if you don't have a window seat, nabbing a signal lock will be very tough. It was exciting watching the speed increase on take off and decrease on landing. I didn't think the take off speed was that fast! Seeing the flight path was pretty cool also. I laid it out on Google Maps and it was fun to see what cities we flew over. Technically, I've been to Canada; but I couldn't make a cache run at 30,000 ft. Too bad. Yes, I know it was against FAA regulations to have the device on during take-off and landing and by do so, I risked a strong talking to from a flight attendent; more if I didn't comply with thier request. I watched Mythbusters try to prove cell phones interfere with plane electionics and they weren't able to do so in the modern jet. In my opinion, that cell phone thing is just to keep people off of them. I'm thankful for that! Can you imagine a flight to Seattle with a plane full of cell phone users?

LOL... Yup, been there done that. Quick Story: My supervisor needed help changing a battery in her car. I don't live far away from her so I offered to do it for her one day after work. I have a pup at home so I stopped off at my house to let her out and figured, "What the hay," I'll bring her for a ride! (My pup loves car rides.) It was a cold winter night so to keep Dolce (my pup) warm, I'll leave the car running with the heat on. My car was within eyes sight so I could watch her while I changed the battery. Well, I finished changing the battery and went to open my car door. Locked. "Hmm... thats odd," I said. "Oh, Dolce must have stepped on the lock for that one door." I tried the other door. Locked also. Dolce some how activated the power locks and locked her self in! Grrr... At least this time I was with someone and was able to use a phone to call AAA. And you gotta know Dolce wasn't to happy about a stranger sticking a long pole into the car to unlock the doors! Oh, what a fun night that was. ~WWWW

Snarly, Great story! I'm famous for locking my keys in my car when caching. I started caching in May of 2006. I've must have locked them in my car 9 times to date! Triple A started to know my name by the sound of my voice so I've gotten really good at using bailing wire to unlock my car. I've since had a spare key made. Here is a log I left for "Full Moon" (GCX0XP) November 30, 2006 by WowWhoaWeeWa I thought I looked thoroughly in every nook and cranny but apparently I missed at least one... the one where the cache was. I had to use the hint to finally find it. I happily went back to my car to discover my keys locked it in. "No problem," I thought, "I'll just use the spare in my wallet!." Well, the wallet was in the car. "Oops! No problem, I'll call AAA." I couldn't do that either as the phone was right next to the wallet! When geocachers get together, the question "How did you find the game?" is commonly asked. I thought it would be appropriate for my first blog to be about how I discovered the game of Geocaching. My curiousity sometimes gets the best of me. For example, I can easily be driving home from work and make a random turn onto a back road some where, just to see where it goes. To assist in these random adventures, I thought a GPS would assist in navigating. So it began. In May of 2006, I decided to research a bluetooth GPS reciever for my Verizon XV6700 PocketPC phone and decided on a Pharos Bluetooth GPSr. With it came the voice guided navigation software and I managed to find free software, Vito Navigator, on the internet to measure distance and point direction. Now that I had the hardware, I needed some places to visit. I decided to Google "GPS adventures" and geocaching.com was one of the first sites returned. I checked over the site and did a search for nearby caches. Sure enough, I found "Why Cough--Gotta Cold??" was down the street from my place of work. So, one day after work, with my GPS in hand, I went off to find this cache. And so it was; a hobby, a way of life was born. I've since upgraded to Garmin GPSMAP60 CSx and ditched the bluetooth GPS/phone set up. Although I only have a little over 200 finds, I look forward to new adventures and new finds! Hi Everyone, I try to help every TB I pick up get closer to it's goal. I currently have a TB that is destin for Alaska! I won't be getting out there any time soon but I would like to try to move this TB westward to Pennsylvania soon. Personally, I don't like moving TBs from cache to another nearby cache UNLESS the TB is in one of those caches are not frequently visited or the cache could be muggled easily. The other exception is if said TB has a goal of visiting as many caches as possible. I like to help them move greater distances. When you pick up a TB, don't keep it to long. Geocaching.com suggests no longer than 2 two weeks. If over two weeks, send the TB owner or post a note on the TB page to notify the owner what your intentions are with the TB. TB owners (and other cachers) hate to see TBs go missing or not moved along. Hope that helps! Happy Caching. ~WowWhoaWeeWa

That link worked for me. Although, I had to search for the products I wanted in the search text box within the offer. The link shows a web page with a center image with large red letters "40% OFF" Within the same image, toward the bottom, it says "Find a Shield:" with a spot to type.
