  1. I know this is old, but I'm still seeing this behavior? Is this considered a bug? Is it being fixed? Is there a different way to enter the search to make it pick up embedded letters (%ring%, or *ring* or some variant)? Is there any way on the geocaching website this search can be done? Or do I just need to use project-GC for this? Thanks!
  2. Actually, the issue seems to be that if a word doesn't begin with RING (So, "RINGer, or "RINGs" for example), it will come back, but if the letters are anywhere else, it does not return. When I search for "new" (another word on our challenge list), I get hits on the Geocaching page for "NEW", "NEWton", "NEWest", and "NEWer". But, on the project-GC page, I get these results, plus, "ReNEWed", and "stoNEWall"... Note that project-GC returned a "NEWborn" and "NEWs" that the geocaching page did not. so I'm no longer really sure what the difference is!
  3. Well, I took noncentric's advice and logged out and back in. Sure enough, my draft counts were once again synced up! Hooray!! Though, I hope they actually fix the issue that's causing that... I did learn one interesting thing when I logged off and back on. I had a couple of offline lists stored. When I logged off, apparently that deletes your offline lists!! Didn't realize it until I was in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal and had no offline list!!! Fortunately, i had saved the list offline in multiple apps, so I was OK, but that seems an interesting feature to delete those like that....
  4. I noticed what seems to be a bug in the "Search" function on the Geocaching website. The Georgia Geocachers Association is currently doing a challenge to find caches with names that have certain words relating to New Year's. One of the words you can use is "Ring" (as in "ring in the new year"). I went to the search tool, entered my home state (Georgia) and clicked in the "GEOCACHE NAME CONTAINS ..." field and enter "Ring". When I do this I get 45 results. The results not only include caches with the four-letter word "RING", but also "RINGER" and "RINGS". However, when I use project-GC to do the search, again limiting to Georgia and searching on "Contains Ring", I get 183 results. In addition to the RING/RINGER/RINGS I get from the geocaching page search, I also get "sPRING", "bordeRING", "ManufactuRING" and other variants of the word "RING". This is the way I would expect the search results to return for "Geocache Name Contains" the word "RING". I don't know if this is a bug in the search function or maybe if designed, could be labeled more clearly? I just know I definitely didn't get the results I expected and a few others I was working with had the same issue... Note I get the same results whether I use the "new" search page or the "classic" page. I've included screenshots below of my search criteria and sample results.... Thanks for taking a look!
  5. First of all, I have to say that I LOVE using the "Drafts" function in the Geocaching app. I tend to write longer logs than most and the ability to drop a quick note in the field and edit it later on the PC is simply awesome!! I use this constantly... I've noticed though, there seems to be a disconnect between the app and the website. You can see in the screenshots below my website "Dashboard" shows I have 51 drafts. The app only shows 4 And the four seem to be somewhat random (The top one is my most recent draft, but the other three are kind of in the middle). The good news is the website seems to be accurate, and all of the things I draft in the field seem to go there. It just scares me when I see only 4 drafts when I know I have more! Hoping you can get these back in sync! Thanks!
  6. Actually, have they actually said this? I've been looking for the answer to "Is this replacing only the search function OR the map and the search function" and haven't been able to find that? I've asked in these forums two times and have not seen a response (and pardon if I missed the response....)
  7. I'm not necessarily opposed to the map, and don't even mind jumping straight to it. My biggest issues with the map are Lack of ability to effectively sort results by more than Favorites, and age (Note: Brendan's note mentions the team is looking to fix that). The dynamic-ness of it. When I run a list, well, I want that list to be "the" list. In the current world, every time I move the map, the list changes. This makes things VERY confusing and hard to work with. If the current map/list had better sorting options and was static (or static/dynamic could be toggled), I think it would actually be awesome! Like you, I often find myself quickly clicking on "Map View" to get a sense of where things are!
  8. I continue to try to use this new search functionality. I would like present some more questions/concerns... Maybe this is just an issue for me, but I live in the U.S., in the state of Georgia. I often do searches for the state (For example, I want to see all the unfound Earthcaches or Wherigos). In the main search box (The one you get when you click "Play", then "search") if I type Georgia, there is one that shows as "Georgia, United States - Regional Search" (See "Georgia Old"). When I enter "Georgia" in the new search box from the map, there are two "Georgia's" listed without further details (See "Georgia New). One is my home state. The other is near Russia (and doesn't have near the caches that the U.S. State has). I never know which is which? Can details be added? For states that don't have that issue (Like South Carolina), the interface seems to work intermittently. If I type "South Carolina", it zooms in so far that no caches show up. If I zoom out, then I get more caches, but they don't stop at the South Carolina border. Other times I make that entry, I get only South Carolina caches. I'm not sure what is happening, if it is an error on my part or a bug in the process. Speaking of searching by location, every time I search by a location, the zoom is so far in that no caches are displayed. I ALWAYS have to zoom out to find things. This includes searching my "Home" location and I have a cache less than a mile from my house. There seems to be a real lack of detail on the new maps? I left the default one ("Geocaching") and it doesn't even show street names (except for some of the most major highways). The "Map1" picture shows the "old" map highlighted on an area. Even zoomed out further, you can see many street names. And forget street names? You can't see streets. If you look at the screenshots I've added for "Zoom Old" vs. "Zoom New". You can see the highlighted cache ("COUNT of Monte Cristo") on the Old map is right off a road (the posted coordinates are at the entrance to the park). ON the New map, there are no roads or the park visible at all? Also, on the maps, what happened to all the great trail maps (one of the best things I've seen on the geocaching website and app)? If you look at some of my caches on the "Trail Map Old" screen and compare them to the "Trail Map New" screen, you can see the difference in trails. These are critical if I'm home trying to plan a cache trip.... It is very confusing that there is no distinction on the map between caches I own vs. other people's caches. In both Map2 and Trail Map Old, those are my caches highlighted/zoomed and there's no easy way to tell (especially without even street names). If I switch to Google maps, the icons change to the old "Star" to indicate they are mine. Other people have mentioned this, but the filters reset too easily. When I have filters on, if I click on a cache and then attempt to go back, the filters seem to clear much too often. For example, I had a filter for "Earthcaches Only". When I clicked on an Earthcache for more details and then returned to the map, all caches were displaying. It's great that you've added the ability to collapse the side-bar menu. However, mine seems to collapse randomly, and at times I don't want it to.... Limiting the cache lists to 500 and defaulting to those with the most favorite points is VERY confusing. I live near Atlanta and we have significant cache density here. According to the "old" search function, I have 568 caches within 10 miles of my home. So this means in the current view, 68 caches within a 10 mile radius of home won't be displayed. Which ones? I guess the ones with fewer favorite points. I can make some changes, but this is VERY cumbersome. It would be preferable if the map displayed all of the caches and then only listed 500. Finally, I hope you will answer a question I asked before. Is this new "Search" function meant to replace only the old search function? Or is it meant to replace the old search function AND the map? On the current web page, they are two different links ("Map" and "Search"). It's not clear to me if this is mean to replace both. That has some impact on comments... Thank you for your considerations.
  9. I've been using the new Search tool for about 6 weeks or so now. I am trying my best to get used to this. I said it in an earlier post, but the dynamically changing map is a bit tough. If I get a list the way I want it, I don't want to move the map a bit and have it all change. I'm also confused on the way results are displayed. I searched for a specific cache -- GCP34D. When I enter that GC code on the search page I access from the pull down menu at the top, it will bring up the cache. However, if I enter it on the search page on the "map page", the top result is NOT that cache-- it's another one nearby (I assume it was first on the list because it had more favorite points than the one I was looking for). I included a screenshot. As an FYI, the GC code clears out of the search box the instant I click on anything, but I can tell you that I entered the GC code in the search box and these were the results. At a minimum, I should be able to enter a GC code and have the cache I enter come up. It certainly is what I expect. It's cumbersome to have to go back to the main page search each time I want to enter a GC code. In a dream world, there would be a place where you could just enter a GC code and go to the cache page-- no intermediary step. If I'm typing in a GC code, chances are pretty good I want to see that cache page-- not a map, not a list-- just the cache page. But, at a minimum, if I type a GC code in the search box, it needs to be the first one on the list. Thanks for considering this issue.
  10. I was opted in yesterday, so I'm just starting to look at these fairly drastic changes. I know there's a natural tendency to immediately think, "This isn't the way I'm used to doing it, it's bad", so I'm trying really hard to give this a fair test. Before I share my initial feedback, I have a question that I didn't see answered anywhere. What is this feature replacing? Is this ONLY for searches? Will the current "map" still be available? Or is the idea that this will replace both the map and the search tool? Obviously, there are features missing from the map, but I'm not sure if this is actually replacing that? Is the idea to give one interface? Here are a few observations about the new search functionality: One thing I often do is filter by state. On the old search thing, it was easy, I would just enter "Georgia" and it would show the state. Here I am constantly defaulted to "Georgiana, Alabama" (Who even knew such a place existed??). It seems more difficult to pick my home state... The sorting options are extremely limited. Two of them I almost never use (newest and oldest). In the short time I've been working with it, I already miss being able to sort by D/T, last found date, or even cache name. Often when I'm searching for things, I like to generate a list of potential caches and work off of that. I do not care at all for how the list continues to change, based on movement around the map (apparently it resorts based on the "sort by" criteria you choose. So, when I go to click on the first cache on the list, by the time I move back to it on the list, the second cache may have changed. This is VERY difficult to use when you're trying to review a list of caches in a search. It really would be very nice if you could have the cache page open in a new tab. It would be very nice if the caches could JUST be displayed in a list. It's easier to view information on a list sometimes. On the old list, I could select multiple caches and add them to a list. Here, the options only seem to be add one to a list or add all. I will share more feedback as I continue to to use it. Thank you for trying to improve things.
  11. Cool to see you continuing to update. Not 100% sure I like the contour lines-- I mean, I didn't always want to know just how steep that climb was going to be! I'm sure I'll get used to it, but initially, it seems a tad harder to read. Maybe the contours are adding some "business" to things. But, I'm going to give it a shot. I appreciate all the work all of you do to keep making progress! My only real "complaint" is that I kind of miss the border lines for the states? It may seem dumb, but sometimes in my travels and planning I would use them as a map landmark. So, I know I would be travelling down the west side of Georgia, and I could use the line there to figure out caches to grab. Now, the lines seem to have disappeared and it's really hard to tell what state I'm in. Don't know if anyone else feels similarly, but I kind of like the boundaries
  12. I will say, the "replace" option did work. I appreciate the responses and am glad to hear that it's on the list of future enhancements!
  13. Hello, Thanks for the response. The version info is as follows: Version 5.7.2 Android: 7.0 Samsung SM-G950U Thanks!
  14. I've been working on a lot of puzzle caches recently and notice that the Android app seems very inconsistent in picking up the "Corrected" coordinates when entered on the website. It seems very random-- some will pick up and some will not. Some are caches I've solved a while ago and some are more recent ones. I hate to do a spoiler, but I thought an actual example might be useful. I had solved GC4N902 a few weeks ago. I entered the "corrected coordinates" on the website and they show up there (you can see in the screenshot below, they are italicized like they do when you correct). But when I open the cache in the app, it only lists the posted coordinates (See second screenshot). I also don't get the special icon you see for the "corrected" coordinates. As a counterpoint, I also solved GC3J5F8. I did exactly the same action of using the "Corrected Coordinates" function. It DOES show up in the app with the corrected coordinates and with the special icon on the live map. I have several caches that won't recognize the corrected coordinates in the Geocaching App. Note that if I use a different app, they work just fine (the corrected coordinates are displayed). Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there something I can refresh? Is there some way when I open a cache I can force it to retrieve the updated coordinates? Or is this a bug that's being worked on? Thanks! (And on a positive note, I have to say that adding a special icon for corrected coordinates and moving it on the map is absolutely one of my favorite things you guys have done in a while!! It's awesome!! )
  15. I apologize if this is a duplicate suggestion (I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of it), but I was wondering if you were thinking of adding functionality to "Map" a list of caches. I know this exists in the app, but I don't see an easy way to do it on the website? I know you can create a pocket query from a list, then map the pocket query, but that's a bit cumbersome. It would be super useful if we can map lists on the website the same way we can on the map. Thanks for taking this into consideration! As an aside, I would like to say that I've been really happy with some of the updates you've been making on both the website and the app lately. The "corrected coordinates" icon on the map online is one of the most awesome things ever! (Both showing it where it should be AND having a slightly different icon for it). The drafts functionality is awesome as well!
  16. Great! Thanks for the reply and confirming it wasn't something silly I was missing!
  17. Hi there! Sorry if this has already been asked and answered (I did some searching with no success), but I had a question about using the driving navigation on a cache with "Solved" coordinates? (Mystery or multi) I can't seem to figure out how to do it? I tried going to the "Waypoints" section, then clicking the "navigate button. This sets the point on the geo-map correctly but if I hit the button in the app for the turn by turn, it always seems to take me to the posted?? Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to change this? Thanks!
  18. So when I went out caching this weekend, I tried really hard to make the "new" app my default app for the day. I truly do know that sometimes the toughest part of learning something new is just getting used to things being different. I've said this before, but there are a lot of things I really do like about the new app. However, I did have some issues-- I don't know if these are things I don't know how to do or if they are things that don't work correctly in the app. Just thought I'd pass them along... The biggest issue I had was with the live map. I was in an area very heavily populated with caches. I opened the app and it found caches, but it only seemed to find them west of me. It didn't find a cache I was standing on and any to the east of me (It was almost like the app drew a line and ended it right there). No matter what I did, I couldn't get the map to "refresh" and show me the caches where I was. I've had this problem with using the app at home as well-- if I scroll on the map to another area, I often have a hard time getting the live map to show me caches in the new area. On the old app, there was a "search here" button that you could click and it would trigger the search. Is there some way to force the app to "re-search" the area you have highlighted? I tried for about 5 minutes and finally had to revert to using the "old" app to view the cache I was trying to see. Also, I had solved a number of puzzle caches prior to going out caching (the day before). I entered the coordinates on the website using the "Corrected Coordinates" feature (the little edit pencil near the posted coordinates on the page). On the app, some of the corrected coordinates appeared and some did not. Additionally, on some, they were there, but when I exited the cache and went back in, they were gone and I had to re-enter. Is there anything special to ensure the corrected coordinates appear in the app? Finally, one suggestion. On the "Classic" app, there is an option to view the cache on the web page. I don't see that anywhere in the new app. This would be a very useful option-- especially if the option to view your personal geocaching notes is not available. Thanks in advance for any help, advice, or considerations.
  19. Hello, I've been a long time user of the $10 Groundspeak app and have been very happy. I've been using the "Intro" app intermittently in the past months and it has some features I really like (I especially like the messaging options in the app!). Saw the updates and the announcements about the "old" app and figured I needed to start using the new app full time! I know sometimes we all have problems changing, but I wanted to give it a good shot as some of the features are great. A couple of questions though. Don't know if these are setting somewhere or if they are not available? "Default" app-- I had the old Groundspeak app set as a "Default". So if I got an email with a new cache notification (for example), I could click on the link for the GC and the cache would open in the app. I removed the "default", and now when I click the link, it says "How would you like to open this?", but the new app is not in the list of options? Is there something I can do so that my phone recognizes the new app as a "default"? Cache descriptions- Standard vs. Web view: I noticed when I click the "Read More" to view the full cache description, it defaults to "Standard View" instead of "Web View". Standard view does not have any of the formatting or hyperlinks you might see on the "Web" view? Is there a way to change the default to "Web"? I apologize if this is the right forum or format? I have never posted here before, but I didn't see any other logical place to post these questions. Thanks!
