  1. Yeah, after digging/deleting through my bizillion visit logs I finally found one that says they were going on a road trip (again NOT EAST) and would rack up some miles on my travel bug lol. To me, the cool thing about travel bugs is having new people discover it and want to help it with its goal. I edited its description to emphasize what its goal is and ask that it not be used for dipping and that it wants to see other people.
  2. Can someone explain the deal with cachers keeping a travel bug and just logging it in a ton of caches, keeping it with them instead of dropping it off for someone else to find and move? I only have one travel bug and it's one goal is to go east but its been getting trapped with cachers that hold onto it and keep it in the same area and NOT GOING EAST lol. I have to message them and politely ask them to leave it for someone else but it is not fun seeing the logs on your bug and seeing a bizillion entries from the same person who I guess is just bumping up some stat? Why???
  3. A church group or a religious group going geocaching sounds fine to me. However, sectarian caches or religious items meant to proselytize dropped into a cache doesn't seem in the spirit of geocaching. Geocaching is for everybody - it shouldn't matter what faith you have (if any).
  4. Thanks for the ideas! Takin' notes...keep 'em coming! Sarah, the moms group I'm in is Eastside Mothers & More http://www.eastsidemothersandmore.org They have a playgroup called Toddler Tracks which takes the little ones out rain or shine on tuesdays. But for the summer, I wanted to start another playgroup that had a little bit of a longer trek for the bigger kids. That's my plan anyway. I will definitely keep you in mind for some company sometime.
  5. Can some WA geocachers help me compile a list of caches to do this summer? Do you have any particularly memorable ones that would be good to do with kids? I have an almost-6 year old and a 2.5 year old. They can do about 3 miles or so. For now, I've been taking the little one out while his sister is in school, but it's hard to judge what each geocache will be like sometimes. I keep thinking I've found one to do that might give us a little hike, only to show up and find the cache right off the road. I've got my backpack all packed, a toddler ready to roam, and then there's nowhere to go! Very frustrating. I'm in a moms group, and I'm hoping to organize a weekly geocaching trip with some other moms and their kids. I'd like to stick to the Eastside, but a little bit of a drive is okay. Caches where the roundtrip is about 2-3 miles, and it is a regular (not micro) cache. Multis are good if they're within that 2-3 mile range. Any Ideas? I'd like to find about 10 good caches that fit that description. THANKS!!!!!
  6. I haven't had much luck with the "kid friendly" attribute. Even the caches meant for kids don't always have that attribute attached to them. I just look for easy caches and read the descriptions, look at the logs. If you see pics of kids in the cache's gallery, then you gotta figure that kids can do it. Stuff like that. You can also look in the regional forums - there's often a list of kid-friendly caches in there.
  7. I'm a noob with the legend too. First, make sure your WAAS is enabled, it is off when you first buy it. That'll make things more accurate when you're close to the waypoint. Also, you can't really stop and turn around every which way with this thing. It'll get all wacky, like you say. It could be pointing in one direction, but when you start walking, then it might just make a 180 into the correct direction. It needs to be moving in a straight line to figure out where it is and where to point.
  8. Thank you for this thread! I had my first GPS for one day and my toddler put a big scratch in the screen. I had no idea those screens were so delicate. I thought I was going to have to deal with it forever, but then I tried the toothpaste and it took it right out! Yay! I used Crest Multicare whitening gel (in fresh mint) - a little tiny smidgen of it and rubbed with my finger. Perfecto! So Thanks!! (And now the GPS is in its case!)
