  1. Got mine through amaxon.com for $189 & free shipping....
  2. I just retired my 210 in favor of a Legend HCx. My post is here
  3. The garmin has a folder of sorts. Only the nearest 50 caches or nearest within 100 miles, which ever is less, is displayed unless you use find by name. It also has a find near pointer function. I think this will provide the functionality your looking for without rigid folders. Jim Yes, I do it that way and it works fine. I just got stuck on the folder type file system. Just a learnin' curve, not a big deal. I do love the unit, it even picks up in my house with a metal roof.
  4. I just upgraded to an Etrex LegendHCx from a Magellan 210. What a difference! I wish I had done the earlier! Don't get me wrong, the 210 is a good one and still going strong. Picking up the Sats. is so much faster on the Garmin, loads of better features. BUT I do like the file system on the 210 better, a folder for each city of caches. Just a few of my observations.
  5. OK, I ordered City Navigator from Amazon. I also downloaded Ibycus maps. I think I have covered now. Thanks for the replies!
  6. I have Garmin Vista HCX on the way, I'm not sure which mapping prog I need. I'm more of an "urban" cacher, not into the hiking on rough trails type thing at all. I will use the unit for road trips, so I assume city navigator north America NT would do it. Suggestions Anyone? Thanks! I do know (I think) I want it on DVD, right?
  7. Here's one GCVYP7 Guess I had brain fade figuring it out.....
  8. DUH! I should have seen Wal-Mart!
  9. What defines a Tram Law cache? I haven't quite got it figured out......
  10. Would the basemap from ant 210 work? I happen to use a 210......
  11. OK. I have a great working 2? yr old Magellan 210 that "shows" WAAS. It led me to within 2 feet of caches yesterday, so all is good . I have been looking really really hard at a Garmin Vista HCx, the vista because I like the compass, Garmin because of reputation here, memory card is a given. Soooooooo, what benefits would I see as a casual cacher? I do use a GPS on the road. Color screen is cool, but what else?
  12. I don't use CacheMate, but use the Spinner/SunriseXP/Plucker Viewer combo. Basically, I get the full cache page, including text colors and styles, pictures, and a Topo Map. I think CacheMate strips out all the styles and pictures, but I could be wrong. I only tried it once, and didn't care for the interface. Too much clicking around to find things that the Plucker Viewer presents all on one page. I too use Spinner/SunriseXP/Plucker at times, it's a good combination BUT there's more steps to go through too.
  13. Cachemate reads the files that GSAK exports to your palm. As far as the Garmin loader, I know nothing. I use a magellan 210. You might look at this Link
  14. Xp and my M505 play well together. With Cachemate & GSAK it makes a good combo. ahhhh....great....that's what i was hoping to hear....after some reading i've noticed that a LOT of people are having trouble hot-syncing the 505 using XP....what did you do to get around that problem? Also, I use GSAK, but not cachemate...can the info from GSAK be sent to the m505.....if it can, what are the advantages of using cachemate....also, is cachemate free software? Thanks for your time. I'm using Palm 4.1.4, D.L.'d from the palm website. Cachemate is limited to 10 or 20? caches unless U pay $8 for the prog. Gsak can export files in the palm format, then hot-sync to transfer to the palm. You can write the files to a memory card in a card reader then "import" to cachemate, either way works for me. Plus there are some good games for the palm too
  15. Xp and my M505 play well together. With Cachemate & GSAK it makes a good combo.
  16. Mine's left over from the CB radio day's. I'm a Dale SR fan, so a friend stuck goodwrench on me. The 00 was my number from the go-cart racing days, I used 00 because that HAD to be my IQ for racing those dadgum things sideways at 50+ mph. That's my story!
  17. Palm M505 Cachemate Plucker GPX Spinner Sunrise XP I've been playing with ACDSee mobile, using screenshots of maps (cut & paste) to view as I go. Kinda clumsy, but it works.
  18. I'm just curious about GPX Files, are they a compressed text or data base file? I use GSAK to manage them but I'm still wondering. Things that make me say "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"
  19. I've been using Cachemate for paperless on my Palm 505. I decided to try Pluckr, GPX Spinner and Sunrise. They are a bit more complicated to use BUT I do like the results. Cachemate is a fine prog. don't read me wrong here. I'll continue using Cachemate too, all combined with GSAK and we have a fine selection of paperless tools! Just my feeble thoughts.........
  20. Same good service here, but with a 210. Sent it in on an RMA, received a new in about 2 weeks. Tech support wait on hold was just a few minutes, tech guy was ok, even thought his English was a bit hard to understand . I still want to try a Garmin, just for kicks!
  21. There is a fix on the PAlM website ( I think) to enable it to "see" bigger cards. I installed it, but never put a big card in. Here's a link
  22. I'd leave it...I found the additional nav screens to be just that...added, but not useful for me...I've turned 3/4 of them off, and I could do without the 4th. Maybe they will come in handy sometime, but unless you REALLY desire the speed info, etc, then I'd leave it alone. I did the 2.57 update just for the WAAS capability, and it sounds like you've already got that. Good Luck. I kinda felt like leaving it alone was the right thing. Thanks, goodwrench00
  23. My Magellan 210 (1- 1 1/2 yrs old)is showing 135 & 138 and WAAS. Would the firmware update be worthwhile? I'm inclined to say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" , am I thinking right? I don't want to trash it yet!
