    Virtual Tb

Cute, I guess, but they seem to just add meaningless posts and take up space in cache logs. I had never heard virtual TB's but in the past few days I've had a couple 'virtually dropped' into caches on my watchlist. Now, instead of the 5 most recent logs I see 4 and a 'virtual TB drop note' note taking up space. This will be noticeably more annoying as many 'jump on the virtual bandwagon'.
  2. I don't see how 'Parking Nearby' relates. I talking about 'Drive Up' caches where you pull in and head out to a cache a whopping couple hundred feet or less. Usually urban settings. Parking Nearby is pretty vague - if it's legal it's nearby for us(.25mi, .5mi, whatever) - distance not a problem. 'Drive-up' can be just as vague - everyones definition will vary. I'm talking about the one's that end up being more of an exercise in driving than of getting a little exercise caching. The one's where you'd be out of the car less than a couple minutes - oh boy!
  3. Drive-Up - so it could easily be avoided if one desires. Cache in Residentiial Area - so it could be easily avoided if one desires.
  4. Would love just a ONE TIME query of all my 1800+ finds to populate my GSAK database. It would be EASY to maintain after that with minimal bandwith requirments. Id even be willing to pay a small download fee to get to avoid all the hassles of playing with multiples queries(sucking bandwith) and probably 100's of manual adjustments to add the archived caches that I can no longer query. $ 10.00 sent PayPal - quick easy and DONE! Please!!!
  5. Would love to just get a one time pocket query of ALL my finds, including archived ones. I could then fully 'stock' my GSAK database and have no problem keeping it current. I've played around trying to piece something together but it will takes days and involve a lot of jumping thru hoops. I'd rather just go find caches. Just one time - perhaps a premium member bonus. Please...
  6. I know I've used the CTRL key to select multiple state before but can't seem to get it to work today. Wanted to do a year end PQ of finds for multiple(all) states. CTRL working for anyone else? ***************************************************************** DUH!!!! New Years Day Brain Cramp! CTRL with mouse click works fine. CTRL with keyboard arrows does not. NEVERMIND!
  7. Sportrak Color was $ 199.00 at Costco yesterday. Very tempting. Love my good old Meridian Green with over 1750 caches found with it - not sure why I'd need more. Wish I could find another for backup. Even the used ones sell for more than I paid for mine just over two years ago. Wish I'd bought a few more then.
  8. Took care of this one for you today. Nice to work with you to reach the goal.
  9. I know that there's many ways to get a loc or gpx file into MSS&T. That's not a problem. Occasionally I might just want to put in coords in a format I'm familiar with and have to jump thru hoops to get it done. The other day I had caches in my Palm but forgot to dump the file to my laptop and did not have cables along. Would have been nice to type standard coords in than play around trying to convert. Extra steps just breed mistakes. It seems most other programs that deal with coord support a pretty full range of options. S&T is up to 2. If anyone does know of a patch please let me know.
  10. I've found it quite annoying that MST&T does not offer a better choice of coordinate display. It does not seem like it would be a major addition to offer a bit more flexibility. Then again, it is Microsoft. I forgot - we HAVE to do it their way. Was excited(not) when I looked at the options tab for MSS&T 2005 to see that they added DMS(degrees/minutes/seconds) - Oh Boy! How hard would it be to add a few more?
  11. With the end of our mosquito season fast approaching here in the Chicago area I found all the 'bug stuff' marked down 75% at Target last week. Ultrathon was about $ 1.50 a tube I think and almost all the aerosols where about $ 1.20. Stocked up... Of course, they hadn't marked down the Garmin stuff I've seen mentioned in other posts here.
  12. Anyone know who is to thank for hiding the first micro? The first use of a mag key holder? The first 'urban' micro? The first virtual? The first locationless? Some of these could be the same. Is there a Geocaching historian out there?
  13. Wish there where more around here( the Chicago area). 2/4's would be a nice number. We just don't have a whole lot of 'terrain'. So tired of drive up micros and city parks. Would rather spend a half or full day on one or two somewhat challenging caches than a 25 cache drive-up day. Saves gas and is far more enjoyable. Theres a few around here and we've tried to focus on some of them recently. Totals caches found slowed down a lot but its far more enjoyable. Interesting to see how few logs a cache has when its description mentions it might be a couple mile round trip or more. Especially when there's a drive up in the parking area thats been found dozens of times. Just me im sure.
  14. Anyone come across a simple coord translation utility I can put on my laptop for occasional coord conversion from GC type coords to those used in Microsoft Streets and Trips. I have no prob moving my Pocket Queries thru GSAK and out to MSST. Occasionally though when on the road I just want to add something to a map(second or addtional part of multis for example). Just remembered I can do that on my GPSr also. Still a small stand alone conversion util would be handy at times. Still hard to believe MS doesnt offer more coord options in S&T. I am annoyed that more coord options were not added to S&T 2005. They did add DMS this time so maybe in 2006 - Oh well.
  15. Why reinvent the wheel(although that challenge is sometimes fun too)? Run a pocket querie for your area and dump into GSAK.(Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). Then just click in the Last Found column heading to sort cache on last found date. Tracked down the longest 'Not Found' in Illinois I think - not found since 10/5/02 with only a couple no finds since. I'd head right out for it but it is about 300 miles away ATCF. I know - what a wimp... GSAK ROCKS!
  16. Great idea! Guess I have one to fix ASAP then.
  17. I'd pay at least DOUBLE - maybe more to be a ' Premium Premium Member ' with some sort of PRIORITY ACCESS - GUARANTEED. I usually know better than to try to access GC on the weekends but happen to really need to check a couple things before I leave home in a couple hours. Oh Well! Seems hopeless! Maybe it is always like this but it has been REALLY bad the last week or so EVEN during the week. I really enjoy Geocaching and all the GREAT work done by the staff. So not to be TOTALLY negative, does anyone have recommendations on how to best use the system to TRY to help eliminate these bottlenecks. I know I consume bandwith and computing power(just adding to problems) by downloading ALL caches in my state(and a nearby one) a couple times a week. If there was a querie to just download any cache that had new logs in my state or caches that status has changed since last identical querie(live to temp. disabled or archived or whatever), I'd happily utilize that method. Any suggestions for streamlining queries will be greatly appreciated.
  18. Would be annoying to have sound blast you at 2AM when trying to prepare the next days caching adventure. To include sound hints or sounds needed to find the cache will totally defeat the concept of paperless caching. Just Say No! The KISS principle is srongly suggested. Just my opinion - of course.
  19. We really enjoyed a caching day in the Clark State Forest in southern IN, just off I-65. We stopped while driving back to the Chicago area and stayed longer than expected we enjoyed it so much. A bunch of caches scattered over this great park and very nearby. Easily one of our favorite caching days ever. The place was relatively empty on the Saturday we were there. Lots of vertical change which we were surprised to find in Indiana. Thanks to all the cache hiders in this area for the great caches!
  20. I love my old Handspring Visor. Bought it used fpr $ 25 at a garage sale. Bought another on Ebay with a Magellan GPS Companion for $ 75. - a really great deal. I've had up to at least 750 caches loaded in it with 4 previous cache logs on a recent longer trip. I'm sure it would hold at least twice that. With more that about 250 caches loaded it bogs down a bit doing sorts but its never been a prob. I use Cachemate and Cache Nav with the GPS Companion attached. It works great a a backup GPSr too when it is attached. Best of all it uses 2 AAA batteries(I use rechargable) that always last at least all day. I thought it might be finished last week after a very rainy caching day. It made it thru part of a very wet day, I knew I was pushing my luck, but it died near the end. Totally disassembled it and let it dry out for a couple days and all seems to be fine again. Hard to imagine I cached for a year before going paperless. I cache a lot but would not think of carrying a new higher end PDA . My $ 25. Visor would not be a tough loss to handle relative to a higher end PDA. I have used one of the older original Palms also. The 2mb memory was a bit limited so the Visors 8mb seems endless. Have fun
  21. I mentioned this one in a similiar thread the other day. Makes for a nice read: Erta Ale Volcano Getting there is half the fun!
  22. Hi again Clyde, I was/am and early adopter and GREATLY appreciate GSAK. I haven't been here in the forums regarding GSAK in quite awhile as you promptly took care of my problems with Win 98 and Win ME a long time ago. I also may have been one of the first to suggest you set up a PayPal acct. to accept contributions. That was mant months ago. Gladly registered and paid the reg. fee moments ago. Thanks again for the GREAT program. maleki Marty
  23. Yes it is. Everyone knows you need to fry them...
  24. Used a permethrin based spray that I purchased at Walmart on our clothes yesterday and let dry overnite. It was quite enjoyable to see the mosquitoes occasionally land then get a bit slower and slower until they just fell too the ground. Very cool. We undoubtedly had tick encounters today too as we did some nasty bushwhacking in an area with a lot of deer about. Hoping it had same effect on those buggers(the ticks) too. Be aware that permethrin is for clothing and fabric only. NOT to be used directly on skin.
