  1. No doubt Mr. Lipe could pull it off if needed I'm sure. I'm sure Greenback, the #1 or 2 cacher in the Chicago area would gladly make the trip too - lol. I'm just playing with this til I pass it along to my Mom in a few days. Just thought it would be cool to dump some caches into it over the weekend. Certainly nothing I have to have unless it's already there. It was actually quite easy to edit the file as I did so I can put in 10 or 15 manually and play with it over the weekend.
  2. I just got this RoadMate a couple days ago. I was actually heading out to the PO just after it came and figured that would be no prob and a cool first test. Oh Well.
  3. Any way to transfer waypoints from GSAK or anything else to a Roadmate 300? The address file saved on the computer is a Vcard file with the following format: BEGIN:VCARD X-TN-ORDER:0 GEO:-8864756;4209595 X-TN-PRIORITY:tnNormalPriority X-TN-TYPE:tnStreetType X-TN-SIDE:tnSideNotApplicable X-TN-DESTINATION:tnPositionOffRoad FN: Rest Area 3 ADR:;;;;;GCRGPN; END:VCARD I manually tweaked the GEO , FN, and ADR lines for this one to reflect some valid cache info and resent to the Roadmate and it seems to work fine. Now if I can get a GPX or LOC file there that would be cool. Thanks if anyone knows and can help.
  4. You can enter new points by address or manually placing them on the map as I did today. You cannot enter by coordinates though it seems. As for geocaching, the Roadmate 300 does not run on batteries(sure you could make a battery pack of some sort). Seems nice to auto route you to the right area then your out of the car with your handheld. Gonna play with this over the weekend before I pass it along to my Mom.
  5. Much like GPSrs occasionally do, THIS THREAD HAS VEERED WILDLY OFF COURSE.
  6. I had excellent response and problem resolution by leaving a support request thru the website. I sent it late Fri afternoon and heard back EARLY tuesday AM after the MLK holiday and was happy and surprised. On the other hand, I left messages on their support voicemail system over two weeks ago and have NEVER heard back. I did hold one time for about 1.5 hours and actually got to talk to someone. That was surprising too as it was picked up several minutes after their posted closing time. I was told that time, about two weeks ago that the phone response time was also in the 10-12 day range.
  7. Perhaps out probs were cold realated today too, although at upper 30's F if really was not that bad out - been out in way worse. Have not had any probs with the Explorist before upgrading. Upgraded a few days ago and probs seem to have been induced. We've noticed accuracy probs, the Explorists ALWAYS got us to GZ quicker than my old Meridian. The last couple days since the update I've actually got to a few first carrying the Meridian. AT one cache today the Explorist never read below 130ft away while standing at GZ while the Meridian said 15 feet. Since the upgrade we've had the Explorist lock up once, it has NEVER happened before. Since the upgrade the Explorist had jumped into a bizarre landscape mode twice, NEVER had that happen before either. I should note that I also added a .5gb SD card since the upgrade although it has nothing on it yet. Progress I guess?
  8. I can't believe that ALL known firmware levels to date are not posted incase you would want to go back.
  9. I'm wanting to give the update a try, sounds great, but without some way of reloading the original firmware I think I'll wait a couple weeks and let you guys guinea pig it. It would be nice if Magellan would post the original firmware(s) also in case a goback is needed. Props to all you brave souls.
  10. That sucks - sort of makes the forums rather useless. I'd take slow over no.
  11. You'll be in cache heaven for awhile as there are several VERY active cache hiders in the Aurora area that keep the area well populated. It is most likely the most cache populated area the entire Chicago area. The Wodstock area a bit thin but a couple areas along possible routes will make nice stops.
  12. If you use Firefox you can add the Geocaching Quick Search plugin found at: Firefox Geocaching Search Plugin It allows searches on GC# as well as other params.
  13. Seems like a great deal. Almost went out to pick this up the other day just to grab the Topo and Memory Card. I'd have resold the GPSr as I already have a 500. With sales taxes included the numbers would not have worked so forgot about it. They did not carry this bundle at our local Costco anyway. Was in a different Costco today. Price seemed to be $ 350. with no mention of instant rebate.
  14. Someone took some heat for that goof I'd imagine - but then again they don't seem to care. Unbelievable - vaporware in action.
  15. Sadly, I held for well over an hour one day and I seem to recall another thread where someone was on hold for several hours. Good Luck! Was there any kind of lot number or date code with the Mapsend Topo. I'm looking to buy a copy eventually and would like to avoid the bad lot if possible. Just don't need the grief of dealing with hold times. Thanks
  16. Yes, does anyone ACTUALLY have an Ex500 or 600 with greater than 5.1.61 on it? Was it purchased that way or somehow upgraded. Sad to hear that there might be firmware updates at version 5.1.63 and maybe higher without public release or perhaps this is just rumor. Perhap Thales/Magellan took care of some hardware issue in newer units that might make the firmware update incompatible with 'older' units. THAT WOULD BE NASTY.
  17. I would also like to filter coin and bug drops.
  18. I also find the virtual whatever drops rather annoying also. Since new virtual caches seem to be gone how about ending the vitual coin/tb nonsense also.
  19. Called today and stated price is $ 65. w/ free ground shipping. The link might still work to save a couple bucks but the shipping $$$ are a rip for sure.

    All Finds Pq

Wow - Thanks. Been looking for something like this for awhile as have others in the forums. Glad to see it. My cache count in profile is 8 less than my downloaded count but it beats trying to piece together queries - I'll take the 8 extra. Monthly downloads would be more than fair for this one too if database query loads are too heavy. Just happy to be able to do it once here. Hopefully I can add to it easily(perhaps a query of all finds since ??? in the future) and keep current without the lazy solution of just dowloading it all everytime.
  21. My repair several years ago was returned with some added goodies. My recent warranty return for my BRAND NEW DOA unit included NO extra goodies. I was disappointed. Perhaps it has something to do with the volume of reported probs with these new units.
  22. I sent back my NEW out of box Explorist for the same problem a couple months ago. I sent it Priority Mail and it got there in 2 days. I recieved the repaired unit back about 10 days from date of shipment.. It came by UPS ground. I was dissapointed as I had paid a bit extra to get my BRAND NEW unit to them quickly and they sent it back via UPS Ground. Many have reported problems with the up directions on the Explorist and I'd imagine that might have something to do with the long turnaround. I was happier with a previous warranty repair by Magellan several years ago.
  23. I see lots of mentions about lockups, a problem that I, knock on wood, have not had 'yet?'. Just wondering if those that have mentioned lockups ALL have an SD memory card installed. I do not. Perhaps it might be something to look at for Magellan if all the lockup probs are on units with SD cards. The jury's still out on my feelings about my 500. I really like the screen but have not invested in a new copy of Mapsend yet so for now have no need for an SD card yet. It has been great for Geocaching I'll have to say though. We use our old Meridian with old Mapsend for the mapping functionality for now. Still wish the old Meridian screens and functions could be exactly emulated on the Explorist line.
