  1. I tend to watch caches that are really difficult, clever or unique. Some of the great caches are like trainwrecks, I have to slow down and peek because I know someone else will eventually fall into the same pit I did.
  2. I'd add the following to Wimseyguy's list. All can be found in sight of the car. Assuming you park in the right place of course. 24 Hour Kink, Reedy Creek RIP, Death of a Tailgater, RDU Travel Bug Hotel, The Stuff that fiction is made of, Owl's Nest in the City, Beyond Buffaloe, Waverly Micro Micro (this one might be a bit out of sight, but very close to parking)
  3. Here is a list of some of my favorites from the immediate area. There are many more really good caches within a few miles of the RBC as well. Turn over a new Leaf, Cedar Hills MicroChip, See da Cedar, Serpentine Cliffs, Milo's Garden, Super Crazy Brick Bash Fun Cache, The Snickert File, Alexander's Ragtime Cache, Method to my Madness, Black Thing #1
  4. While I can appreciate the heightened security, I just hope the next step isn't woolly worms classified as enemy combatants that can be held without legal representation. A roundup of of these creatures would set mountain snow forecasting back 100 years.
  5. Whe I started geocaching just over a year ago the first thing I did was capture the coordinates for my home. Was amazed to find a cache .17 miles in one direction and another .24 miles in another. I suppose living on a greenway does have advantages.
  6. Is there a simple way to get to a user's profile? I've been accessing them by going to the hide & seek a cache page entering the username into caches found by field, then finding this persons log entry and clicking on their name. Please tell me there is an easier way to do this.
  7. It would be very nice to have a view that listed all recent cache activity by proximity and/or date. I find it interesting to see local caches that have received maint visits, DNF's, notes that TB's have been dropped off etc. It would be nice if a search could be done which returned a view sorted by last activity within a particular region (within 100 miles, by zipcode, by state)
  8. I'd like to see this for the above mentioned reasons, but also because a couple on my closest list are ones I helped to hide. It doesn't seem right to claim them as a find.
  9. From wading through the RR security website it does appear we subscribers to Road Runner have our hands tied as to determination of spam and who gets put on their list. Customer no-service is alive and well at Time-Warner, no surprise there. I hope Groundspeak can get this resolved quickly. It does look like what happens with the bounce backs is determined by the error message associated with them. Permanently blocked emails are discarded, while others may be tagged for resending. The resends would have to take place from Groundspeak so I'm assuming their mailserver settings would determine that.
  10. I'm a RR user and haven't gotten any pocket queries, cc's of emails I've sent through geocaching.com, or notices of finds on my hidden caches since last Friday. I just noticed this a few moments ago when i received a reply from an email I'd sent to another cacher.
  11. I suppose if that is in a National Park it will have to be a virtual.
  12. I don't intentionally get up at 4am and try for a FTF but if it pops up on my nearest cache list and I had already planned to cache that day, i'll probably head toward that cache first. 13. Why is WD-40 and a pair of pliers required to open this cache container? "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  14. I really enjoy this feature where you can see the lastest log entries, but its such a broad listing when used for all caches worldwide. Is it possible to have a view that filters them by country and or state?
  15. Unless they were all moving in the same general direction I'd have to call them lost. "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  16. When heading to a cache site. Try to avoid doing any more than three of following events concurrently. Drive Type parking coords in GPS Read cache sheet Talk to cache owner via phone or radio Eat "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. 18. Yes, you do have to find the micro "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  19. The mummy lives. "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  20. I'll generally wear a floppy brimmed hat to protect my face and neck from the sun. Although, lately the caches i've gone after have had so much canopy I'm not sure the sun is even there. "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  21. My wife has carries both. She'll start out in sandals but if at the parking area it looks rough she changes. "When action grows unprofitable, gather information. When information grows unprofitable, sleep." - Ursula LeGuin
  22. While I certainly don't understand all the details of what has happened in these particular instances, it seems common courtesy to notify a cache owner before any action is taken regarding one of their caches. While time marches on, there is something to be said for the historical value of a first cache in any country. Sometimes the debate between traditional and virtual seems silly. Each has an appropriate place in this activity. I'd much rather see a well planned virtual in a picturesque area, than to have a 35mm hidden in the same spot and all vegatation trampled within a 30 foot radius.
  23. I've had two bits of auto excitement while caching. During Sergio's Legacy I was rear ended on the final stage of a 4 part multi. Also managed to get locked into the park on Point Break but found by folding the mirrors back and inching back and forth to line up exactly right I was able to squeeze out between the park gate and a multi ton rock. Net result a little streak along the length of the car which came out with some buffing.
  24. There are several that I don't think are overly difficult. Rommel's Toy Box Big Root Cache Bookworm Cache Blue Heaven
