The amazing time travelling geocoin
minstrelcat replied to Cushie Butterfield's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
There has been some history of odd happenings in the Whitstable area, especially where geocoins are concerned. Lisa -
Country searches wouldn't filter out Essex and London caches, which are my bugbears. A regional search may not either, depending on whether London and Essex count as south east England. A polygon search would be wonderful but that would presumably mean a lot more effort for Groundspeak to implement. It would probably either never happen or take forever going by previous requests for changes - after all, it has taken years for the UK counties request to come near to being implemented!

Wild guess at Rayburn - a combination of 'range' and 'burner'? -

I don't know of any company or product called White Horse - apart from several pubs! As far as I know, they are named after the white horse figures carved into several chalk hillsides. Lisa -
Groundspeak defined countries around the UK
minstrelcat replied to markandlynn's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
That's because Guernsey, Sark and Alderney come under Guernsey, as well as Herm and an assortment of other small islands. Lisa -
I go with Rutson's list, preferably with the Scilly Isles, Shetland and Orkney added. Adding the unitary authorities is such a bad idea as most people won't have heard of the ones outside of their area. Lisa

EDIT: realised I repeated something I already said

I understand that automatically assigning the counties according to a border outline would be more difficult, but it could cause all sorts of confusion letting owners choose! A couple of examples near home: Chatham is in the Medway unitary authority, Bromley in a London borough - yet both of these have Kent addresses as the Royal Mail hasn't kept up with these changes. Also - I'm sure there are a lot of people who insist they live in Middlesex which doesn't exist any more! Anyway - I for one would really love the opportunity to just search for Kent (and Medway if necessary) caches so my PQs don't get clogged up with London and Essex caches - areas I don't often go caching in. The All New All New Groundspeak UK Pub Quiz

I don't know - but I do know it's said to be the world's third largest employer after the Indian railway and the Chinese army. Lisa -
Personally, what I get out of placing caches is the pleasure of a nice log saying the cacher enjoyed doing the cache or enjoyed visiting the area the cache was in. The multis I have placed take cachers on tours around what I think are nice areas - areas a cacher might not look around if they headed straight for the cache. I've had some good comments from cachers logging these so I think they have achieved their purpose! Lisa

Or those 'cache and dash' hides in dull but convenient locations. -

I've never found a cache on a swing or a roundabout! Lisa -
It occurred to me that signature items seem to have died out lately - the last time I found one was about a year ago, not including those laminated calling cards. They used to be a really popular thing to do and they were nice things to swap for. I have a collection of them at home - mostly keyrings but a few other things like badges, soft toys, fridge magnets and CDs. I wonder why they seem to have died out. I used to hand make my sig items but that fell by the wayside due to my studies but I want to start up again. The rate of cache hiding and finding has gone up so maybe people would find it too costly to leave a sig item in every cache. I used to put one in each cache I found (that wasn't a micro) but this time I'll probably only leave them in caches I particularly like. Also caches seem to be smaller on average now, making it harder to leave larger sig items - I used to leave handmade greetings cards but there aren't so many caches big enough to take one nowadays! The All New All New Groundspeak UK Pub Quiz
minstrelcat replied to Simply Paul's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'll start with the easy ones - the ones I know: pico- nano- micro- milli- centi- deci- deca- kilo- mega- giga- tera- peta- (just realised I have them small to large instead of large to small but I can't be bothered to change them around ) The ones I have no idea about: atto- exa- femto- hecto- yocto- yotta- zepto- zetta- -
It would be really useful for me for two reasons. 1 - the boundary between Essex and Kent is the Thames estuary so there won't be a cache a few feet over the border. 2 - my 'Kent caches' PQ gets filled up with caches in London which is a very high density area and I'm more interested in the caches in the extreme corners of Kent than those in London. So two PQs for my usual caching areas of Kent and East Sussex would do me just fine! Lisa

Me too. This has been on the 'to do' list for years it seems!

Unless I fell asleep and missed one, yes it will be Kent's first camping event and Kent's second ever event (unless someone organises one before then). I'll be there, I've not decided about camping though. If there is anything I can do to help you guys out I will be happy to as I'm local-ish! Lisa

I'd love to come if I can so please don't make it on the 21st June as that clashes with SP's Scilly Isles event. Also - see here for dates of other camping events planned: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=171731 I don't know if LucyLocket10 got anywhere with their event - may be worth speaking to them? Good luck! Lisa

Do you have a list of which phones it can be connected to? I have a Samsung E720 and most phone charger gadgets don't seem to support this model. Lisa
