  1. I have had mine for a couple of years, and I have the exact same type of wearing going on, as well as the rubber casing around the outside of the unit coming off.
  2. sorry didn't know where I was supposed to post...
  3. For the last 6 months or so there has been a local cacher that has been asking for a bunch of caches to be archived. Others they are asking for owner maintenance. This is fine if there is something wrong with the hide, but when they have not even logged a DNF or even tried for it...I mean really. Case and point, I have a hide that was one of my very first hides nearly 4 years ago, I purposely stated on the cache page that it was not meant to be easy and I also gave it a 1.5/5 difficulty. For the most part its that difficult and many cachers that know me, or have found some of my caches know my reputation. This cache also receives alot of DNF's which was the intent to begin with. I even state on the cache page that I will not give a hint until after a DNF has been logged. Some people crave the challenge that hides like this have the satisfaction of giving, others hate them, that why we have write-ups, so we can give any needed information to a person going out to find said cache. This cache gives the information and there have been as many as 4 or even 5 DNF's before someone get a find or asks and I help as best I can, even if I have to meet a cacher there which I have done on more than 10 occasions. What happened last year though was I got a email saying htat my cache needed to be archived because there have been so many DNF's and no finds, but the person that wrote that had never logged a DNF. They just made an assumption and tried to get my cache archived. I email and asked what was up, and it turns out they had never even been there or tried for it, they were going off of logs. Then to take it further they have tried this on no less that 5 of my caches. I have a cache that was hidden nearly 4 years ago and still has no finds, does that mean that it should be archived also? I think not. How can we deal with cachers like this? It turns out that many people that I have talked to in the geocaching community have been having the same problem with the same person. I just don't have a problem calling them out. AS OF RIGHT NOW I AM NOT SAYING NAMES. If others could please give some type of advice on how to deal with this situation it would be great. I currently have 125 active hides that I keep up on, and most are the original containers, I think I know which I would need to archive if it came to that, but I am of the belief that a cache should stay for as long as possible. This is how we end up with the 12 and 13 year old caches. IF YOU CAN'T FIND A CACHE YOU DNF, NOT SAY NEEDS MAINTENANCE. I think this sort of thing should have consequences. There have been a couple of caches that were archived that were some of my favorite or most memorable hides and now they are gone, and that really sucks, people don't understand the consequences of there actions until its too late. This person is a geocachers nightmare and needs to be dealt with....GG
  4. It sounds to me like half would call me an FTF hound and half would not, seems more like democrat vs republican. Luckily I could give a care either way. If I can get the cache before anyone else and I am able to get there then so be it, I will go and try for FTF. If I get FTF I will probably brag about it, that's just my thing. If I don't get FTF, oh well at least I can sign my name on the log sheet and do not have to go back for it. I don't print my FTF list on my profile, though I do bookmark each one. I am pretty certain that someone will take offense to this post, as there is always someone. That"s not my problem, I don't care. The thing that I care about is the veteran cachers whining because they 1) Do not get FTF on one of my hides because it to difficult to find or 2) Bad mouth me because they don't like my affinity for micros and can't find it or 3) Do all of the above and talk crap about me behind my back because I place micros in the woods. Then they will talk crap some more when they turn around and place a micro themselves and have to eat there own words because I can find there Micro in the woods and get FTF to boot. Just saying.
  5. Next time there is an issue with UPS, try to get help from someone on the inside. As I work there, drop me a line and I will see what I can do to help...what ever the situation might be. Just saying.
  6. As you said that's all that is left, and there are those that fuel the fire by listening. Look at all the comments, whether negative or not they are still comments and that is still attention. Does anyone care? No, probably not, but I have no problem bragging about it still, I really have nothing to brag about anyways, but I still do it. I saw another thread where you referenced your caches being destroyed. I am curious if you believe that this attitude has anything to do with that occurrence? No I do not believe that this attitude has anything to do with the theft. I do find it interesting that the theft of one of the caches coincided date-wise anyway, with the Ape Cache, GCD and a couple of other caches in this area going missing. This is not to compare that particular hide to either of those very well known caches. There was a lot of talk/theories at that time about what was going on. There was also a blogger talking about how proud they were about going out and destroying some other area caches, one of them being one up near Deception Pass.
  7. I have an opinion about giving a hint. Usually when I place a cache way out, meaning over 2 miles of hiking, I will give a hint. I do not like not being able to find a hide when I may have spent an hour getting to GZ. If it is an urban micro, I will never give a hint until after FTF has been claimed, and then depending on how hard the hide is, I still may not put a hint on the page. My biggest pet peeve though, is that I have no problem helping others with my hides, as long as they take the time to ask. I have a 123 hides and everyone of them has its own story, if someone is having a problem finding it, then I am more than happy to help. There are a few of my hides that I really take pride in, as they are extremely hard for the majority of cachers to find, and they have the T/D rating that should tell them that. These ones I will almost never put a hint on, as that is the intent of those select few caches, they are supposed to be a challenge and rarely found, that being said I will still help others to find them if I am asked. The other part about hints, is that it makes the success rate of finding the cache that much higher and in turn there is more traffic to said cache, this then leads to geo-trails and signs that others have been there. This renders the cache in my opinion, boring and not worthy of the status of being called a Geocache, as I believe that it should be a challenge to find a cache and not all about finding it really quickly. The more work that i have to put into a find, the more I want to venture out and get challenging hides. I love micros, and I love to place micros, the harder I can make a hide, the more satisfaction I get when people actually find the cache and tell there story about it.

  9. I know exactly what your saying as I have experienced the same thing before. The other type of sabotage that I have experienced in the last year, is that someone has been damaging and also stealing containers that I have put out. One of my containers is an onsite puzzle, and the original container cost me $150.00 plus the time that I spent building it. it was stolen. Then I replaced it with another container that I also had to purchase parts for and then build. This time though I move the cache about 40 feet south and attached it to some debris (car chassis) that was dumped there eons ago. I locked it to the frame with a gun lock and attached a stainless steel chain to that, thus making it possible to solve the puzzle still. Not too long after when another local cacher went after the new cache container, I received a phone call with more unsettling news. Someone had attacked my security measures, although they failed to remove the cache, they did considerable damage to the cache container. It was still solvable, but all of the fun was taken out of solving the puzzle, as the bottom had been broken out making it easy to see/solve the puzzle. The only form of possible security that I have come up with is that I make all of my caches premium member only now. I do not like to this all the time as there are alot of newbies and others that want to see creative hides and they are forced to either accompany others to my hides or pay for a premium membership. Since I have done this though I have not had a single incident(knock on wood) with any of my caches being stolen. What it comes down to is cost. I spent $750.00 between 3 hides that I put out, two of them were stolen and had to be replaced and one of those was damaged yet again. My other cache that was taken, was actually found over a .10 of a mile from GZ. How it was seen I have no idea, the cache which was somewhat difficult to create, as far as some of the parts that needed to be able to withstand the uncertain weather that we have up here in Washington. I have woodworking experience and the knowledge and means to waterproof what i can, but when the cache is stolen or an attempt at stealing it just irks those such as myself who feel responsible to put caches out for others to find. For me this is the worse kind of sabotage.
  10. Bragging certainly seems to be important to you; witness your log on this cache. I am guessing that they are all like this. Sigh. Sorry, but your FTF there does not impress me much. Now, the FTF on this cache, that is maybe worth bragging about. Almost a year without being found, and he signed the log in blood. Kinda makes bragging about being the first to lift a lamp-post skirt in the nearby Walmart parking lot seem a little pathetic, huh? LOL, we have a local FTF streak cacher and his logs are almost identical. This is what I logged on one of his caches, (all in fun), "The 4th of 5 Challenge caches that I have logged today, and my 7th Challenge cache overall. I now have 1 day in a row of logging Challenge caches." BTW, I had 100 FTFs in a day, (actually 2 1/2 hours). Do I get bragging rights? I'd have gotten more but boredom set in. Anyone can brag about whatever they want, if you have an FTF, you get bragging rights....the problem is, is that a bunch of people have a problem with those of us that like to Brag about it. Thats whats fun for some of us. As I could care less what others think, I will just keep doing it. Everyone plays the game how they see fit, therefore any and all opinions are just that, opinions. Happy Caching
  11. I invite any and all to give me a hard time, but unless they have something to brag about its not worth paying attention to them.
  12. Anyone that has to ask what the big deal about an FTF is needs to try and get one. For me its bragging rights and the fact that I beat out the hounds in this area. On a side note, its not all about the rush anymore. Now its about setting records. I am not sure what the standing record is for at least 1 FTF per month for consecutive months is, but I know what my personal best is. My total FTF count in 4 years of seeking out the elusive FTF is only 170, but the rush that I get is that I can say I have found at least 1 FTF per calendar month for 48 straight months now. Also I believe that for those that like to FTF they should do there part and hide caches also. With over 120 published caches I believe I have contributed many times over to help others to get an FTF. The problem though, is that most of my hides can be rather tricky to find. Everyone plays the game how they want, I am content with at least 1 FTF per month, and we will see how long I can keep my personal record going. Anyone know of FTF Streak Records out there?? For me it is the personal rush of finding a blank log, others have there own reasons. You can bash me all you want for caring at all about FTF's, but unless your record is anywhere near mine, you might as well keep your mouth shut till you actually have something to brag about (just saying). Just thought I would give a little insight into why I go after FTF's.
  13. I have one that has been hidden for 2 years and 7 days now and still no FTF. I check on it periodically and all is good. Did I mention it is a park and grab...
  14. I have checked for viruses, and found none. I use GSAK for way point management. its strange that when i use google chrome or internet explorer it does the same thing. It only does it when I download gpx files...something fishy is going on.
  15. Hello I have a major problem when I download a pocket query to my pc. After I run the query and get the zip file to down load my computer starts opening multiple microsoft windows screens and will not stop. I have been forced to switch to using a lap top to do my queries which sucks as my pc is actually super fast. It gets so bad that I have to hold the power button and wait for the computer to shut off. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, how can I fix it?? This only happens when I download pocket queries and not with anything else. It doesn't matter if I try to upload from email, or if I download from queued queries. As soon as I click on the zip file it happens. It seems really weird ad I have been using pocket queries for 4 years and this is new, and I need to figure out how to fix it. Please Help!!
  16. Due to the amount of stolen or missing caches out here in the Seattle area, I will continue to submit PMO caches, 90% of my caches are premium member only. Due to the fact that I just had a cache stolen that had 9 finds and 6 favorite points, stolen and it cost me over $50 cash to build it I will continue to submit PMO caches. I may even change all of my hides over to PMO. The problem is though that I have had PMO caches stolen also.
  17. Thank you so much for the info! I finally got it to work on my phone without having to go through the computer. Just in time too, normally gps (garmin oregon) just got a busted screen yesterday!
  18. I have a Garmin Oregon 400t that has only been used for a few months. I just got a Garmin 62s and need to get rid of the 400t. Anyone interested let me know. Nice machine, I just like buttons versus touchscreen. personal choice.
  19. I totally agree it is very obnoxious and I wish there was a way to disable it
  20. I have a very lightly used Garmin GPSmap 60csx. My wife picked it up about a year ago and since we go geocaching together she's hardly used it. It's in mint condition. We are asking $250.00 for it and with a full price offer will send The Topo US 2008 west Coast & Hawaii mini sd card with it. That by itself sells $100.00. We are out of Marysville, Washington so closer to home is better. Let us know if you are interested. We have the book, Trip & Waypoint Manager, lanyard, usb charger. Everything except for the box. We also never got around to registering it so you would be able to register it under your name and get all future upgrades no problem with Garmin.
  21. I have a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx for sale and a lot of accessories and other features included with it. I use another unit that is exactly the same already, and all you have to do is click on the button and it puts the geocache onto your GPSr unit. Let me know if your interested.
