  1. Hi I download 500 caches at a time from my pocket queries.. I delete all caches from the gpsr before i download the new file. To get around losing your home cords or special waypoints you want to keep. Include them in a fictious "route" and save the route. Then the gpsr will ask you if you want to delete all routes "even those in route" and you select no. That way only the waypoints (caches) are deleted but not any "special" waypoints good luck wingryder
  2. The Garmin 72 is no longer available thankyou wingryder
  3. Travis I dropped the price on that Garmin 72 to 75.00. thanks wingryder
  4. Don't overlook the gps garage sale forum...
  5. Well I just thought I had the manual I guess. Cannot seem to find it. So just download it for free from Garmin.com And I will drop the price to 75.00. Buy of the day I'm sure wingryder
  6. I have a old version of Mapsource 4.13 and it works just fine. 1. Obtain gpx file from P.Q. 2. Spin this file 3. Open EasyMPS 4. Import the spun file you get in step 2 (spinner.gpx) 5. Open in Mapsource wingryder
  7. I have a near mint Garmin 72 for sale. This is built on the same frame as the popular 76 series.. with the larger screen. I have tried the smaller ones but they are so much harder to read. (At least for me) Details about this model are available at www.garmin.com. This is in perfect working order, only used a few times. Comes with all manuals, original box and data cable. 85.00 I upgraded to a 76S. thanks wingryder
  8. Hi welcome to caching. I dont think the guys are Garmin are really jerks. As you read your manual you will find that the Garmin to Computer hookup is serial. And your laptop wants a usb connector. You can buy a simple converter and be in business. Good luck wingryder
  9. I am looking for some older Garmin software. This is the Garmin Mapsource "Points of Interest" Cd. I am told it is one of the few programs that will load into the older Garmin 72. I don't think it is very popular so there should be a few laying around unused. thanks wingryder
  10. Peter thanks for the quick response. Yes that is would work. Would rather have the base maps all loaded in but.. How did you create those track logs? Did you have to drive the city and save them or is there a better way. ( I hope) thanks wingrdyer
  11. I asked this question a few months back and the general answer was no. Has anyone had any experience making up their own basemap, (major roads etc) just using waypoints or ??? as reference points. For that matter does anyone use the Garmin 72 anymore.?? Seems to be a very nice unit.. not unlike its big brother the 76 series. Just need those base maps. thanks wingryder
  12. The easy way is dump all waypoints (well maybe not those tied to a route) and reload with your newest pocket queries request. I ask only for 500 not found caches (would ask for more if they would give them up), then you have the latest logs and any changes that might have happened since you downloaded last time. Its simple and works every time its tried wingryder
  13. I have 500 caches with complete descriptions on my old Palm IIIxe I use Plucker and GPX2HTML . Requires premium membership and about 10 minutes to process the files. I download everything I have" not found.. " don't do any data manipulation (as with cachemate). Then in the field if I decide not to do a cache, I delete it (in gps) just to remove clutter. (the only problem here is when I reload next week these caches will be back. But my mood might change by then and I will decide to do it) I use the 500 number because that is all the PQ you can get in one bang. Next week.. I dump everything from gpsr, and reload them again.. picking up any new ones and all log entries from all 500 during the past week. I can keep several "500 cache runs" on the palm at one time. I usally keep about three and keep dropping the oldest. I also have Mapopolis maps on the Palm so that takes up some memory. Some say 500 is too many. I would use 1000 if PQ would send them. I have ran multiple searches but then you get a lot of duplication. (My 76S will hold 1000). The advantage is you have caches for a giant area so you can go about any direction from home without having to reload. You can never have too much information with you. I only use the Palm for caching.. so for all that fancy daily stuff you are on your own. wingryder
  14. I have a Palm IIIxe and Garmin map76s. I have them connected together with a home brew cable. All I use it for is live cords. on my mapopolis maps. But since they are communicating, I don't know why those other programs would not work as well. wingryder
  15. Post that reply on every forum and every gps related website.. I think they will find the time to address your problem. I use Garmin so can't help you.. but their solution does not cut it. wingryder
  16. I know you don't like paperless but its easy. I get 500 not found caches from pocket query (their max) I run these through GPX2Html.. I download the resulting "easygps" to my Garmin 76S I also download all 500 cache descriptions and logs to my cheapo Palm IIIxe. I use plucker. It takes about 5 minutes and you are off. (takes my printer nearly that long to warm up. wingryder
  17. I use the Palm IIIxe.. The eight meg storage comes in handy. I download 500 caches at a time.. (the max pocket queries will give you), I also run mapopolis maps on the palm and I cable between the Garmin 76 and the Palm to put the "live" gps cords. right on the map. Not necessary but fun to see if you can make it work. Oh and I have lost one palm and ruined one... so cheap is very nice..They were 45 on ebay a while back.. less now I would think. wingryder
  18. I am trying to add my "spun" pocket query file to Garmin's Mapsource. I used to know how to do this direct but now the only way I can do it is download the caches to the Garmin and then upload them to Mapsource. How do I skip the uploading and downloading step and import them direct to Mapsource on the PC. thanks wingryder
  19. Ok dont start laughing yet. I either dreamed this or saw it for real on this site or maybe elsewhere. New Binoculars with built in gps receiver that when locked on to signal would indicate map features one was looking at. By adding cordinates to an onboard map you could sight in on a mountain peak for example and read the name of that map feature superimposed on the viewing area. If I did dream this up I want credit for it. If not.. tell me more. Would that be just the coolest thing you ever owned?? Wingryder
  20. Hi John All you really need is a serial cable and "Easygps" which is free. This will let you download the caches one at a time (or maybe up to 25 at a time) from Geocaching.com. Now after that gets real old.. You join up as a premium member. and get some neat things called pocket queries and then you can download 500 (or even more) caches at a time. Its real cool. wingryder
  21. Still trying to track this down. Just received a new p.c. and with 500 caches it looks like it goofed on just one. I logged this cache about 30 minutes before I requested the new queries. I can live with that but still wonder how that "found cache" got in the "not found" list.?? wingryder
  22. I have been downloading 500 querys at a pop once a week. I include only a zip code to start from. I only want unfound caches. Everything has been good for weeks even months. Today my pocket query was missing caches I have not found and including caches I have found and logged. Anyone else having this problem? If there's a bug I need to find it. It has to be rock solid dependable or not much good. wingryder
  23. Hi Sometimes you can select too many variables are the results mean no caches at all. Just go through your create process again. The only things you really need are a zip code to base the center on, number of caches and caches you have not found. ask for it on the same day.. and with in an hour your email should have it waiting for you. You can pm me if you need more help. wingryder
  24. Hinge Thunder Your attitude is off the charts. It's a hobby. You are making a lot of folks remember your user name for the wrong reasons. wingryder
  25. Lots of good ideas but Valley Rat.. you download your cache pages from the web one at a time??? When do you have time to go caching??.. I am only using pda not laptop so I don't get the full monty as you do.. but I download 500 at at time and wish the geo folks would change their max to 1000. Now folks are saying that is nuts. Why would you need 1000 caches at a time. You dont have to visit them all. Its just so nice to plug in your home zip and say give me a thousand caches. Then when you are out and about you will have caches for hundreds of miles from home. If you see one handy and you have time.. you grab it. Remember that "delete all" buttom will wipe it clean in a heartbeat. happy caching wingryder
