  2. Check out this news brief: Thales Launches New Truly Global Positioning System, Business Wire, May 5, 2003 Thales has launched a new generation of decimetric Differential GPS (DGPS) positioning systems, offering the oil, gas and hydrographic industries new levels of accuracy and quality of service, with no range restrictions from reference stations. SkyFix XP, available from Thales GeoSolutions, the world's premier global offshore services company, is capable of accuracies of 10cm in the horizontal and 15cm in the vertical domains, surpassing accuracies and quality standards previously experienced in the Differential GPS marketplace. Certainly the most accurate system available today, SkyFix XP draws on a completely new technique, known as Satellite Differential GPS (SDGPS), using the existing global network of Thales reference stations to track all satellites continuously throughout their orbit, generating reference-station-independent correction data. This fully dynamic, highly accurate and completely reliable correction information, available for any location regardless of proximity to a reference station, makes the system truly global, with no range restrictions, representing a major breakthrough for the industry. 3. Take it to your local clock/watch shop. They have done wonders on my cheap glass Casio watches. They have a buffer and it takes them about 15 seconds to buff out all the scratches. The glass looks like new after they are done. RM
  4. Here is a confirmation that this scum bag is actually cleaning out the caches that he visits. Read the last log. RM
  5. Did you try contacting him at the e-mail address that is at the bottom of his web page? If not, I would give that a try. RM
  6. I agree that there is no need to archive the cache. Some people (like me) are more bothered by these pests that others. I see you did mention the pests in your log on the cache page. You have already done what I would recommend. RM

You can reduce steps 2 and 3 into one step by clicking on "View Recent Posts by XXX" in step 2. This reduces the process of getting to someones hidden caches to four steps instead of the two steps it used to take. RM
  8. My 2 Cents Worth ..... 1. The title of this post is inappropriate and unnecessary. 2. Lazyboy & Mitey Mite should have tried to work this out with the site admins via e-mail before posting here. 3. If Lazyboy & Mitey Mite had a previously approved cache in the same location, there is no reason why this cache should not be approved, although it is not clear if the previous cache was theirs. 4. The cache seems to fall within the GC.com guidelines, so if Lazyboy & Mitey Mite had taken the time to satisfactorily explain that they could adequately maintain the cache, it probably would have been approved. 5. I don’t think that the fact that someone has not found any caches in the area is necessarily proof that they can’t maintain a cache in that area and it alone is not a valid reason for disapproval. 6. Lazyboy & Mitey Mite are experienced enough geocachers to know that caches can be unachieved by the admins, so I think they got a little overexcited about this whole thing. 7. I can’t believe that someone who has 480 finds and 70 hides would quit geocaching over something as insignificant as this. I think you have gotten your moneys worth out of this site, particularly since it has cost you nothing. You should appreciate all that you have gotten for nothing and move on. RM

  10. What do others use for importing waypoints from GPX files to Streets & Trips 2003? The only way that has worked for me so far is to use GPSbabel to convert the GPX file to CSV. I then import the CSV file into Streets & Trips 2003. Is there an easier way? Feel free to Markwell this post to your hearts content. Thanks - RM
  11. Is it just me, or is it impossible to post a new topic to the forums today?
  12. Costco has the best deal. After their $20 rebate, I think you can still get the $10 rebate from Microsoft. Final cost is $33.99 - $20.00 Costco Rebate - $10.00 Microsoft Rebate = $3.99 final price. RM
  13. I just got back from Costco with my copy of MS Streets & Trips 2003. The price is $33.00 - $20.00 rebate = 13.99. I couldn’t pass it up. Now that I have it, what is the best way to convert the GPX data so that I can put the waypoints into S&T. Thanks, RM
  14. This is a test post.

  16. I know there is already another thread on this jerk, but he/she/it pisses me off so much that, I decided to start a new one. This person PiGsLoP has taken my travel bug Mercury Atlas that has already traveled 2699 miles. PiGsLoP takes travel bugs and holds them “hostage.” This is the message that PiGsLoP leaves: "PiGMaN HaS TakEn meRcuRY AtlAs inTO hiS bEInG...hoSTaGe iS hE fOr a tIMe OInK oiNK." He/she/it has logged 12 caches and stolen 13 travel bugs. His/her/its hobby is "TakiNG bUGs FOr RaNSoM." I hope that the account of this piece of s#%& has been disabled, but it doesn't appear so when looking at the profile. Grow Up PiGMaN
  17. I started attaching small laminated info cards that I print out on standard Business Card Stock. Here is a Microsoft Word Document that will print out on business card stock: T-Bug Card . RM
  18. I am growing old trying to access cache and T-Bug pages. Why so slooooow? RM
  19. I am using GPSBabel to convert from GPX to Garmin Mapsouce and most of the time it works great, but I get the following error with some of my GPX files: "GPX: XML parse error at 6741: reference to invalid character number" Does anyone have an idea what is wrong and how I can get the misbehaving files to convert properly? Thanks, RM
  20. I found a place that has it for $100. RM

I have not been able to find where to buy the new Version 5 that now utilizes Navigation Technologies® map data which I find to be much better for this area. Here is the link to the product on the Garmin website. RM
  22. I have checked it out on the Garmin website and for my area; the maps are much more up to date. I just can't seem to find a place to purchase it. I can't purchase it on the Garmin website and I can find it sold anywhere else. Does anyone know a place to buy Metroguide USA v5 online? RM
  23. quote:Originally posted by Bikedog:Some of you may have received an invitation from John Chen and his crew at http://www.geocaching.com/geoteaming/. They organized an event at the Four Seasons Aviara in La Costa yesterday. We had a great time and got paid to geocache! BikeDog I also helped out at the event. It was a lot of fun to watch a bunch of nongeocachers compete to find caches with a short time limit. It was also good to see BikeDog and some of the other SD geocaching regulars. Rocket Man
