  1. Thanks everybody! Much appreciated! Good luck VP! c.
  2. WHEW! Thanks! In today's age, you never know what's happened. Sorry to hear you're in the same boat, but I'm certainly happy that I'm not alone! Guess I don't need the list admin after all - I'm <happily> not that special... =;^) Thanks again! c.
  3. Hi! If you're one of the list admins for the above listserver, would you please shoot me a note (it's regarding account administration). I tried finding something with VP's email addy, but I not only couldn't find anything, but lost confidence that he's the list admin and can help me anyway. I can't actually post there to ask - it says my account's suspended. (Kinda hoping this is a technical problem and not that I was haxxored!) Thanks! c.
  4. Was in the local library with my son and killing time while he was looking up non-fiction books to take home. Looked up and saw a book entitled 'Geocaching' by CacheEffect and, being that I was brand-new to the sport, figured I'd sign it out and learn some tips. Opened it up to scan through it and it was a cache! Totally blew me (and my son) away. The work that went into this "container" was absolutely fantastic. It really was an actual book, hollowed out 'spy style'. Fantastic accidental find.
  5. LOL! I'm not God, but I detest micro's in trees as well. There's one in particular where there's only effectively one spruce tree in the area, but I still can't seem to find the blasted thing. I like the out-of-the-box thinking though - just take the whole tree, then mulch it down, till you find the micro. Kinda makes putting it back kinda tough though... Pictures are important. If there was no sign of a cutting, but the stump was there, what did the stump look like? If it looked like a hewed spear point, then you probably have a beaver situation. Good luck! c.
  6. Hi Steve! I'm quite a few kilometres from there, but will be passing through in August. If you haven't had an answer by then, and haven't given up, let me know in the first week of August and I'll get the info as I go through. Regards, Curt
  7. I use a MIO P550 and it works fine (although I'm new to caching and so don't really qualify for an experienced opinion). It's on the high-end of your price point, but if you're going to use it for road gps as well as normal PDA stuff (Word, Excel, Calendar, Email, eBook, multimedia etc), it's fine. Had a few bumps learning how to optimize it last year, but it's fine now. I'm agreed though - it's a good PDA but it's not ruggedized like a good purpose-built GPS. It's got a better battery life than you're saying, but if you turn it's WiFi on, you won't last long. Once again, a purpose-built GPS will kick it around in that arena. c.
  8. Sorry for the delay - pretty busy around here (and I kinda forgot to check back). My GPS Settings Programs port is com 4 - same as you. My GPS Hardware port is com 2, with a 4800 bps baud rate. Access is checked to manage GPS automatically (it defaults unchecked if I recall). Sysinfo on the ROM version: R05.3.0101.0331 I'm not sure what else might be helpful, but feel free to ask away for whatever you think I might be able to help with! (I'll even remember to enable reply notification this time!) Curt
  9. Hi Chris! Sounds frustrating! I can't offer a solution for you, but I can say that there's hope - perhaps not with your software however. I'm using a P550 as well and, along with BeeLine GPS for geocaching, I'm working fine. I'm using MIO's own road GPS software without issues (normally) as well. I have had the rare burp with the files with MIO's road software, but they've been easily fixable (copy a file out and put it back). I'm in Western Canada, if that matters and I'm revved up with versions since Sept 07 (shortly after I mistakenly installed the power patch when it didn't need it and had to send it in to sickbay). Good luck! Curtis
