  1. I have seen lists that state that The 1st CITO event (GCE2F1) was held on April 26, 2003 at Raccoon Creek State Park in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Then i have read that March 2003 saw the first CITO events worldwide, but i have yet to find a GC# of any event prior ro April 26, 2003. Does anyone know one that was officially published as a CITO earlier than GCE2F1 ? Thanks
  2. Love Algonquin! Im from the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Here, you can't lay in your tent at night and listen to the wolves howl in the fall. Someday, hopefully.
  3. I read your post through a few times and still don't quite understand the problem. Does vendor mean printer? I can't imagine patronizing the same print shop as someone else would be shameful. Maybe you need to read it again! Thats fine though, if you all think its a great idea that this person does this. Maybe you are the perfect type of people to buy his cards, and i can stop making the cards i make and distribute for free. Have a great day!
  4. I still might Brian <smile>. I just thought it was shameless when 1.) he copyrighted the idea of the can, 2.) when he drags it around the events and sells his trinkets related to it, and 3.) now this.....taking my idea and running with it, (even using my own vendor), after i kinding asked him to allow me to make one.
  5. Actually, they are peas! The original can of beans was actually a can of Black Eye Peas! So, his rusty o can is mis-represented!
  6. Well, a trading card would def be a print of the souvenirs <smile> I don't think the souvenir trading card is a bad idea but I wonder about the logistics of distributing them and verifying that one has actually earned the souvenir (or would you allow someone to purchase a souvenir trading card even if they've never visited a location?). Given that Groundspeak has done anything with souvenirs in the past couple of years other than a couple for special events and the Leap Day souvenir I doubt that they're going to invest in souvenir trading cards. How does one actually verify someone has actually done a geocache? Log book? They change and are replaced over time. People would purchase trading cards for thos esouvenirs they have earned. its an honor system. Some people may just collect them cause they like them, the artwork, etc....with no need to say they earned them.
  7. I really can't figure out who is more shameful here.. you or the other guy. It's a tossup. Why, cause i create cards for not for profit to give away at events and polace in caches. Where did i go wrong? The person also used my vendor that i use for creating cards. He is pathetic! Calling the act of trying to make a profit shameful says more about you than it does about him. If there were a true copyright or trademark violation here I'd be all in. But I ain't seeing it. Im not claiming a copyright violation. Please pay attention! I respectively asked this person about creating a card related to his so called copyright on the can of beans. He instead, took my idea and ran with it too make a profit. - Enough said

  9. I am not going to mention any names (Geonick here), however, after seeing my trading cards, emailing me and telling me how nice they are, and then denying me the right to create a free trading card of the COPYRIGHTED Can of Beans, the person went ahead and created one to make a profit! Shame on that person! And then made a post on the Geowoodstock event (Shameless plug): http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=00549ab9-9c74-4913-b76d-e58968ca5dc4 http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/large/e5d4693e-8200-41aa-b1bb-e0d6fe24388a.jpg I am working on a Geocaching History Series of cards (Not for profit). I was interested in making a card related to the original can of beans. Here was the persons response: "Thanks for the info about the trading cards, I just may get a run of them made for GeoWoodstock coming up. Sorry to say, yes, I would be against anyone making an OCB card as I am having an order of them made up for GeoWoodstock. Additional cards by other geocachers would decrease the rarity and potential value of my cards."
  10. Sorry keystone, i somehow missed your question. I am referring to the animated version, but i would also be interested in the live signal version as well, if you know the date the costume was introduced? Thanks
  11. Sure does look like it was, at the latest, August 2003, possibly earlier.....hmmm, no lackeys yet to confirm the date? Sorry, make that July 03! I emailed Jeremy directly, hopefully he will respond.

  13. I may be wrong, but I think you all missed the person's point. "can the souvenirs be purchased to start a collection of the states and other events that you personally are awarded?" The key here, is those that you are personally awarded. I believe the person wants something tangible for those awards (souvenirs) that they have. Thats why in my post above i recommended to GC.com to create trading cards. However, the person who made this post, might be wanting something else to display. Thats what i took from their question anyways.
  14. I have suggested in the past that GC.com make a set of trading cards from the souvenirs. The souvenir image placed on the front and the information about the souvenir on the back, including the artist, why the image was chosen, and what a geocacher has to do to earn it. See my geocaching trading cards link in my signature

  16. Signal the Frog http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=457aa896-3133-409e-84fa-169764730e22 Interesting! I wonder if that is truly the date of his introduction as the mascot? We will see if a lackey responds with the correct date or confirmation on this date. Thanks!
  17. I have been searching the forums and trying to figure out the exact date Signal became the mascot. I search through the announcement area an all other forum threads and could not seem to find any info related. Does GC.com keep the weekly updates archived somewhere? Does anyone know where i might find the exact date when Signal went live as the new Mascot? Thanks
  18. here are a few more from the geocaching history series....
  19. How were these printed? On a standard printer, or by a professional printing service? Do these have water resistant coating on them? Id be interested in seeing one in person
  20. And trading cards can be 1/5 the price for each.....and a properly placed trading card won't get wet either. Place the card only in water tight containers, and only if the container also has a ziplock bag. The trading cards can also be placed in sleeves which purchased in large quantities cost about 0.01 each. I can get 1000 trading cards for the price of 100 path tags. Each is their own though. Trading cards are just another alternative to other signature items such as geocoins and pathtags. My trading card collection: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Geocache-Trading-Cards/136759573036417 if you dont have a facebook account here is one series example from the page: Blueline Geocachers series http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/geolobo_2008.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/bluegirl_2008.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/blueline_geocachers_2009.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/blueline_geocachers_2010.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/geolobo_1000_2009.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/bluegirl_1000_2009.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/geolobo_bluegirl_get_married_2011.jpg
  21. I find that the Montana is a perfect size. I LOVE THE LARGE SCREEN!
  22. What exactly has Groundspeak done in the last two years to grow Wherigo? I haven't seen any movement on Groundspeaks part in at least that long to do anything with Wherigo other than ignore it. I have tried several cartridges in the Seattle area and none of them run without crashing on my Garmin OR iPhone devices. The Wherigo cartridges that i have done in my area, where well done and all worked successfully on my Garmin Colorado.
  23. I am trying to put together a timeline of dates and locations of Geocaching.com's headquarters. If you can help me with the dates and locations, i would appreciate it. What areas of Seattle where the first three locations? Groundspeak Headquarters (“The Lily Pad”), owner and operater of Geocaching.com, resides in Seattle, Washington, USA. Although they moved to their new headquarters from just two blocks away on August 30th, 2011, they have always resided in Seattle, having grown over time from Jeremy Irish's (CEO/President/Co-Founder) home, where the first computer lived in his basement (2000), to a small ofice on 9th & Lenora, to a small office on fifth Ave, and to two locations in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. Currently, Groundpeak still operates from N 34th Street in the Freemont neighborhood of seattle. Groundspeak Inc 837 N 34th Street Suite 300 Seattle, WA 98103
  24. Using the wayback archive site i listed above, there is a image in place of the logo spot http://web.archive.org/web/200011091406/http://www.geocaching.com/ and the geocaching name doen't show on the page there, but it does here http://web.archive.org/web/20011009000043/http://www.geocaching.com/ the first actuall use i can find was on Feb 3, 2001 (but thats only becayse wayback didn't archive anything between - Dec 5, 2000 - Feb 3, 2001) http://web.archive.org/web/200102031615/http://www.geocaching.com/
  25. Using the Internet Archive: Wayback Machine (web.archive.org), i was trying to figure out the date the first geocaching logo was created? And, the date the current logo was created? As far as i can tell, the first logo was created sometime around feb 3 2001 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/logo1.jpg and the second logo somtime around jan 21, 2002 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73677254/logo2.jpg Anyone know any of the exact dates?
