  1. Had a buddy give me a call but by the time I found the remote, found the travel channel and got the stereo on I saw the GPSr in hand and then they moved on to the next item... Now, can I figure out my VCR plus codes by 1AM? -Mixster

  3. Yes, Friday (01/18/03) edition of both the Cincinnati and Kentucky Enquirer. -Mixster
  4. Mario's Tower Haven't started it yet, but I've heard it's a doozy. -Mixster
  5. Cincinnati Enquirer That's the family and I, team Mixster. Now we just need to form an organization in the area. -Mixster

I found one of these about a month ago. It was pretty tough to let go. But, I figure that someone else was nice enough to log it and set it free, why not? (It's still waiting at one of the Sith Impossible boxes last I checked) -Mixster
  7. comedy and tragedy, right arm, covered by a t-shirt. (if I can figure out how to post a picture I will.) -Mixster
  8. Here in Kentucky as well as Michigan where my folks live, weather is a big influence on how long we look. If it's 10 degrees out and the winds blowing, probably 20-30 minutes is tops. If it's Spring or Summer and the weather is nice, I might spend closer to an hour depending on the rating, and I'm not afraid to come back at a different time for a fresh perspective. -Mixster
  9. I didn't buy a palm specifically for this purpose, I already had it, and just made another use of it for Geocaching. -Mixster
  10. Check out this thread: http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=3000917383&m=8590995935 The new map server looks pretty sweet! -Mixster
  11. Is this software available for all to use, or is it a purchase required type thing. Also, does it require a GPS connected to the computer or does it track through the internet? Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, a quick search didn't turn anything up. -Mixster
  12. I've got the Legend too and the compass is only good while you're moving. If you need to stop to take a reading and you're not heading *towards* something, I haven't found it to be very helpful. Although I remedied that by getting the official Geocaching compass in the store here. -Mixster
  13. so far I've left things of the sort: new unscented package of markers japanese currency (mostly coins) $1 chips from the Alladin casino (vegas) postcards used DVDs used CDs pens (logo/glowing) I think that's pretty much it - anything that shouldn't be there? -Mixster
  14. One of the better caches I've visited was in a kitty litter bucket (cleaned) but it worked out rather well because there was lots of stuff for my son to choose from and not a lot of junk. (He took a Playstation1 game and left a ZZTop greatest hits CD) Lately in the larger caches I've placed a brand new (non-scented) pack of markers. Obviously more kid-centric but it seems to have worked so far. -Mixster
  15. Mixster & family Covington, KY
  16. Spending it with the family in Northern KY. (Which, by the way, has more neighborhood fireworks at this time than some states I believe!!) Take care, drive safe, and enjoy! -Mixster
  17. Hey there, First off, the thought of people freaking out thinking someone is going to blow the plane up with a suction cupped antenna just has me rolling. Not that I don't believe it, it's just funny. We just got back from Vegas and I used the GPS on the way out w/o having any issues with flight crew. However, I couldn't get a signal so it really didn't help much. It would have been nice to know the air speed and such as I'm fairly certain I heard the stall warning come from the cockpit on our ATL - LEX flight when the pilot banked too hard. Oh yeah, he also came on the air mid-flight to give us the latest college scores. I was like, are you flying the plane or watching the games up there??? -Mixster
  18. Breeding caches... what will they think of next? Well, the obvious problem becomes, who then tracks it, and does it become their cache, or yours? Interesting idea though... hmm... -Mixster
  19. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and a great upcoming New Year (safe too!). Just curious what the current status of this mapping function was as I'm not getting anything on the current state maps... Thanks folks! -Mixster
  20. Hey there, Anyone besides me use the 'Plan a trip' function on rand mcnally's website to plan the day's trip? You can start/stop at home, and then add stops based on your lat/long values to get approximate driving directions. I know it's no substitute for the actual maps, but it does make for a nice day's planning! On a side note, has anyone purchased the 2003 RandMcNally Road Atlas? Curious if it provides the detail necessary for Geocaching or not. (just to get you to the park, not to actually cachehunt) -Mixster
  21. I knew there was a reason I had that Palm sitting around (and a few measly bucks to become a charter member...) win/win! This is great. No more printing off papers to take. Combine that with the auto-conversion utility for hints and you're good to go. I may still use a Mapquest printout to get me in the area though, who knows. Just starting out and having more fun as I go! -Mixster
  22. If the main worry is the dampness of these small toys, could a silica packet work? (Not sure if I'm thinking of the right thing or not...) If the cache is big enough, I've been getting rid of my "I'll never watch this again" DVDs. I like the idea of the signature CDs I've seen, but I'm thinking of actually burning one w/ usuable stuff on it... Any thoughts? -Mixster
  23. Well, here's my thoughts on the matter. 1) I like the idea of the rating a cache by it's finders, but how do you validate that someone has actually 'found' a cache and not just logged it? 2) I've found that the 'treasure' portion of the trip is part of the fun. It keeps my kids into it (5 & 8), while getting them into a family activity of hiking and seeing wildlife. 3) When we went out for our first find I took what I had available (two Sacagawea(sp) dollars). After that I decided that I'd actually spend a little time either finding things that people would like to get (not that this didn't qualify), or purchasing things to have on hand for that very reason. So far I like the idea of a used CD that my kids don't listen to, a DVD that we don't watch anymore, some type of collectible, or figurine(not gumball machine type). 4) I leave a sticky note in the cache with my item so I'm accountable... "Left 11/28 by Mike & Devin email: so onandsoforth" That way it's like someone _is_ watching... For the short period I've been doing this, how do my ideas match up with others? Oh yes, and my kids wanted to get an old time treasure chest to keep the items from our finds. We'll also log each item with the place it was found on a big map so they can tell their friends and show them pictures of their hikes. -Mixster
