    MOC's?

I believe the biggest motivator to be a premium member it the pocket queries.
  2. Ok if you have a belt clip for your gps, and dont mind a screw hole in your dash then this is your solution. Get yourself a old CB Mic holder. Mine worked excellent still able to plug in external power and external antenna. I was in my van wondering where to put my 60Csx and then I saw my old cb mic holder and looked at the belt clip and thought yep that works.
  3. Yeah I agree with all the comments hence why I posted I was thinking about a nice scenic loop of about 150 miles with a stop maybe every 30 to 40 miles. Also don't like leaving bike so I was planning on placing the micros only 40 to 50 yd from road. So no big need for shorts or the worry about your bike it should be with in eyesight. I also don't like the idea of frequent stops that why I am thinking 30-40 miles normally by then I can use a drink so pulling over isn't to bad of a Idea grab a soda from the saddle bag fill out a log and go.
  4. I am curious how many of us cache a route while on the motorcycle. Cause I know My wife and will gas up and just go for a slow cruise for a entire day. I know several great routes for a beautiful ride and scenery. I am planning on placing several Micros along these route. I was curious what kind of interest this would spark.
  5. No city navigator takes priority which is fine getting you to parking area after that you have to hide the navigator as was described above then the topo will take over.
  6. Ok curious how do I switch my map view on my Gpsr from city navigator to my loaded topo maps.
  7. I am unsure if this is the appropriate place to post this but anyway. Mozilla firefox is a internet browser just like your internet explorer only much better. Firefox has a built in spell checker which is great for a frequent forum poster. It is also more secure then Internet explorer and its free. I find the spell check quite useful since I cant type without looking at the keyboard so when done the misspelled words are underlined in red just right click them and it gives the correct spelling just click it and bamm. I recommend it you wont be sorry it will even import all your bookmarks.
  8. Well I am some what computer savvy but never used mapsource or a 60csx until 2 days ago. I found it quite easy, Gsak is great for the lappy unsure about the phone. I went form a old garmin ll+ to the 60csx which I found a little more complicated then my bare bone ll+( they both come with pretty extensive manuals which I didn't read its like a man asking for directions we just don't do it unless we are sure we are lost). I have become quite familiar with it though and have found it quite easy to upload maps, waypoints, and find my way points.
  9. I am looking for other cachers in the Schuylkill county area for my family and I to meet and cache with.
  10. check this link out. http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html
  11. well I managed to load almost the entire east coast for city nav and a 100 mile radius of my home of topos onto a 512 card so thats good enough for me.
  12. I just sent it in 2 weeks ago after it went wacky while caching never found the cache my position kept jumping by up to 4 miles. I cam home called them and they told they would replace internal battery and gave me a rma number. I haven't received it back yet but it will be going on ebay when it returns I got a 60CSX today.
  13. Ok I did it I got city navigator also hope your all happy you twisted my arm so much. Only prob they only had the Vanilla not the NT.
  14. I am unsure if it will void the warranty if they fix it cause when I cracked my screen on my old ll+ they still covered the battery 6 years later. Now if the GPS get damaged because of moisture they wont because of the current condition. Once they fix it it will be like new hence warranty not void.
  15. I believe the only reason for price is demand more people like the 60 simply cause it seems more friendly to the hand held user due to being smaller. the 76 is slightly larger size wise I believe it is more attractive to the nautical user because it floats(since I only use mine around small streams and rivers I prefer waterproof but sinks, don't like idea of chasing my GPS downstream) which is also related to the size I assume something inside for added buoyancy. Either way you get the same exact features so if you like it then you got what you wanted.
  16. There are many way to get around the cost of having garmin do it. But the down side of all of them is you run the risk of voiding your warranty. I have used Garmins warranty several times on my old gps ll+. they have replaced a cracked screen free of charge, updated the software for me and now that my unit is 10 yrs old they just replaced my internal battery free of charge. I don't know about you but thats the kind of service I want to keep. The goop will void your warranty, You can try finding a non-working unit on ebay and swapping cases( but some companies use marking to tell if a unit was was tinkered with which would void warranty). I would call them first you might be surprised.
  17. I would send it in for repairs only because then your unit remain waterproof with tape you wont even be water resistant.
  18. Thanks, I can really see your point with POI's, as far as routing I pretty much use my ll+ for that also I just follow the route back although it doesn't tell me where to turn I just keep looking at it and where I am. I also like to just head out on the motorcycle and worry about getting home when I am good and ready. Now there the POI's would be handy sometimes while patiently waiting for my wife so we can head out on the bike in my excitement to finally leave I tend to forget to stop for gas on the way out of town. Did that last labor day we were in the middle of No where when the bike started sputtering I switched to reserve and headed fro the nearest gas station which was closed for the holiday. So I decided to make a left since I knew going right the next gas station was 20 miles(only got 15 miles on reserve). Luckily we hit a gas station(put 3.15 gallons in a 3.3 gallon tank) and became a little more familiar with no where. So yeah you might have sold me on that.
  19. OK I am going to buy my 60csx tomorrow and I know it has a base map. I am interested in the mapsource topo USA. But I am unsure how useful the Mapsource Navigator NT will really be. Now please keep in mind I currently cache with a old garmin GPS ll+ and use Maptech Terrain Navigator on my pc just to mark my points on my maps on my comp. So I personally feel if I have gone this long with out it do I really need it. Please someone fill me on the extra perks of Navigator. P.S. Thanks ahead of time for everyones input.
  20. you don't have to attach the travel bug you can engrave your item with the Number thus its your item and now its track able.
  21. That 's how to keep it as low as possible - buy a unit, keep it for a long time, don't put anything into software updates. But "pennies a month"? A few dollars a month, maybe? 8 years is 96 months. If you paid under $96 for it 8 years ago, your TCO for the unit itself might be pennies per month. Do you pay anything for batteries, software updates? ok you did the math for me I might have exaggerated the pennies bit a few. maptech terrain navigator has free updates. But it will not be compatible with the 60csx. So I will be getting city navigator nt is there any other mapping software that is recommended.I use rechargeable batteries for gps and digital camera.
  22. I have a old garmin gps ll+ and I only use maptech navigator on my pc just to mark and track my own finds. I have had this unit going on 8 years so at this point if I were to average out to a monthly cost it would be just pennies. Although I am about to change that drastically I am purchasing a gpsmap 60csx this week.
  23. OK let me touch on this a bit If we were given bigger buttons for use with gloves and a larger screen. The entire unit would have to be made bigger then we would complain its to big for a hand held. Seems to me the manufacturers are doing a excellent job trying to give us users the functions we want. When they design these units it based off a consensus(you can please most of the people most of the time but not all the people all the time.) As far as customer support Garmin has always treated me well my Garmin gps ll+ plus is 10 years old they just replaced the internal battery, the data port dust cover and updated my software version free of charge. Mapping software is like any software constantly evolving and changing, technology steadily advancing. As far as price we all know there are cheap units but they don't have many features you get what you pay for. The first unit I ever used was in the Army in Egypt for a training exercise it was huge and pretty much a bare bone gps. We would be given co-ordinates of a broke down vehicle and we would go repair it or tow it back. this was great just follow the arrow across the desert. which was great in day light. But at night the military uses what called blackout drive when on maneuvers (basically you have a little 4 watt bulbs that lights up about 6 feet in front of your vehicle so might as well have no light) We were sent out one night for a APC(armored personnel carrier) we ended up driving down into a salt quarry in the dark crawling over huge rocks in a Hummer eventually our warrant officer told me to turn on the headlights because safety was defiantly a issue at this point. we made it up out of there with some serious 4 wheel action and found our Broke down APC. They said they saw us coming for miles away headlights going straight up in the air then gone then straight up and gone. Now the military units use pretty much the same mapping that would have been a great function back then but we got by. So My moral of the story its only gonna get better.
