  1. I live about a hour south of you in Cressona, PA we have a overhead Railroad bridge here that gets a tractor trailer at least once a month the best record was 3 in one week. They have warning signs out 2 miles in advance, The bridge is painted a bright neon green, along with flashing lights 100 yds before it(one trucker admitted the bridge got him once before DUHHH). I guess my point is it doesn't matter what kind of warnings are in place. People are bound to screw up its a fact. I believe that if you properly place your gps so that you don't have divert your full attention from the road and avoid making entries while moving you wont have any issues.
  2. Be sure you are using the right datum. It could put you way out of whack. I was having problems finding micros which tend to be close to the road and then discovered my 60csx was set to navigate on the road which meant my compass wasn't pointing at the cache but the closest point on the road to the cache. Now I am doing ok.
  3. This was discussed in a previous thread the the problem is bad map segments . Meaning you probably experience this in almost the exact same spots every time. Basically its a glitch in the mapping software that is causing the GPSr to shut down just like a computer that experiences a unknown exception it will shut down. I suggest making sure you firmware is up to date. also try to drive with out being zoomed in real close.
  4. Ok I missed this post when it started or would have commented much earlier. I agree a guidelines should be strictly enforced. I suggest before a urban area cache is published it should be investigated if that means a list of cachers willing to volunteer be put in a database. when a cache is placed and under review the reviewer can send the info to the nearest volunteers to investigate it. The volunteers report should contain pics of the area and the cache location. I am sorry but I fully agree that the public has the right to be concerned about people just wandering around messing with a device then leaving the area. Also though the Police and press are morons if terrorist didn't have the idea to use caching to disguise their activity they do now.
  5. I am thinking now maybe just get some of us cachers to meet up and go for a nice long ride.
  6. I am from pa I was able to load the entire east coast from michigan eastward and about a 100 mile radius of my home in topo maps.
  7. As much as hear how people love there Macs I still wont buy simply because of the entire software incompatibily issues.
  8. I have never really traded but my kids love it. I enjoy the walk scenery and the adventure of finding the cache.
  9. My wife refers to me as a Ebay addict. I have never had a bad experience yet. As stated earlier make sure the seller has a good reputation read teh feedback most of the super sellers are real reliable. Most used software is safe but since Mapsource requires unlocks dedicated to a gpsr I would suggest only buying New un-opened. Just to be on the safe side that the unlock coupon wasnt used.
  10. What I find funny is everyone wants a smaller unit but a bigger screen. Seems like we will just never be happy.
  11. I agree with map segment issue remember we are still working with basically a computerized device so software issues can cause strange things. A software issue in a pc will cause it to restart or what us pc geeks refer to as a BSOD(Blue screen of Death).
  12. Thanks only had the 60 a week before that i was using a Garmin Gps ll+ and printing maps from my maptech software I had to convert all cords to nad 27 conus so I was unsure what the actual default was.
  13. Ok I am curious what format are the coordinates displayed in I have been experiencing some problems finding some micro caches. I know the area and from reading the logs get a good idea where they are but my gps has me off by about 300 ft or more. I am using nad83 which from my understanding is the same as wgs84. My 60csx had me a block away from the capitol theater micro with a epe of 18ft. I know from growing up here where the theater was but evidently my gps doesnt.
  14. I only found one and didn't find 2 others but so far not liking them. There is a series of them stashed inside a couple local Subways I hate there subs so it would look real obvious if I walked inside and just looked around.
  15. I server 91 to 96 U.S. Army 63H. I spent 3 years with the 202nd Bravo CO. in Mannhiem, Germany. 2 Yrs with 94th maintenance Co. in Ft. Stewart, GA.
  16. yep bought mine at cabelas same condition everything lose except the reciever was in a second carton like holder.
  17. Help my thread has been Hijacked. LOL I would post pics of my bike but they aren't worth the bandwidth. Now when I am done working on it by spring I will post pics.
  18. Yes Topo Maps are not updated nearly as often as street maps. So them being out dated it in the hands of the government.
  19. I Normally don't take anything its my kids that do. So anything to keep them interested and enjoying the day with us is great for me. I find my caching to be more about family time. I tend to leave things like caribiner's, and trigger locks.
  20. I agree that by doing this the first time it will take longer to get its initial fix but will be fine after that. The built up table is gives the unit more to compute and cause the change in accuracy.
  21. I have a palm m100 up for grabs it comes with hotsync cable a leather case, and palm desktop software. I would suggest that the buyer just dl the newer palm desktop software. asking $25 shipping included.
  22. Who cares what the distances are let me know when a ball will tell me where it is so I don't spend forever trying to find it.
  23. The global positioning system was built by the D.O.D(Department Of Defense) for tracking of troops and giving troops accurate means of finding locations. The GPS system is still maintained by the DOD. Our civilian models are limited they don't use the system fully so minor deviations are expected. If your system was once more accurate then it is now I would suggest a hard reset. Just like on your computer there are times you need to delete your Internet cache to speed your Internet back up also a monthly power reboot of your modem will speed you up. Basically any computerized device that uses memory will need a reset eventually to clear the memory of clutter.
