  1. TB41833 has now been activated (it arrived on Saturday) and is ready to start it's voyage as soon as NCFabFive has adopted it. It's a Scavok Night and Day geocoin, and I'm trying to work out the best ways to keep it and it's instructions together while travelling. I was thinking of laminating the instructions, and attaching them with the strongest tape that I can find to the flip that the coin is in. Anyone got any better suggestions? Z. Yay, Zwack & I.E. for paying it forward! Hopefully this gesture will mean "good coin karma both for the coin you've adopted AND the coin you're adopting out! For the coins I've adopted out, I placed written instructions in the flip on the site opposite the coin. Yes, these can be removed, but if someone wants a coin there's little one can do about thief-proofing the mission/instructions for a trackable. I could have drilled the coins, but I didn't think the people who had adopted the coins would appreciate a damaged coin, if they are so lucky as to get theirs. I don't have a picture of what the travelling coins looked like with their written instructions, but I included: 1) The city/state/province that the coin wanted to go to 2) The tracking number (TBxxxxx) 3) The tracking code (unique on each coin) 4) A statement that the coin was owned and NOT to be kept as SWAG 5) A statement that the coin should be logged onto geocaching.com All of the above should be reiterated on the coin's page, although geocaching.com does a lot for you already (tracking number is specified on every trackable's page). You've already taken a picture of the coin, which is great for the new coin owner, as they may never see the coin "in person." Yes, "trackable at geocaching.com" is on every coin, but I figured a little reinforcement can't hurt. When it comes to reading, there are three kinds of cachers: Those who don't read anything (a clear majority, mainly because they are new and don't fully understand yet) Those who read but ignore/don't care/unable to help with mission/or can't follow instructions Those who read and do their best to follow through (precious few geocachers) Good luck to the travels of this coin (a Night and Day coin - lovely!), and again, congratulations on paying it forward!
  2. That is fantastic news! I think Mission 1 definitely has some staying power. Given that these missions have been going on for more than a year, and the fact that geocachers come and go quite frequently in these forums, it is really great for both missions to have travelled as much as they have. Nice to see that Mission 1 still has some gas in the tank! Hopefully the remaining recipients for Mission 1 still have some gas in theirs... Perhaps those who have yet to receive it should contact opalsns or post in this thread to let Queenie-Boo-Bay know that they are ready to receiving and willing to send on quickly?
  3. Very cool - go Steeler Nation! Thanks for the quick cointest, LadeBear68, and congratulations to sureteb!
  4. Steelers, 30 My roommate was a Steelers fan, and I have a terrible towel in honor of him.
  5. Happy December 4th to geocachers and GEODOGS everywhere!
  6. Hahahaha no raffle ticket, but something else did climb into your shipment which went out this morning. I hope it will do! I won! I won! I won! I won! No, not a sexy legged lamp, but a PURRRRRfect major award nonetheless. A wonderful surprise! When I saw these on Facebook, I thought, "When will I EVER be done acquiring these little darling?" Thanks for a great design, Anne, and for letting us all be a part of the many inCATnations of le chat!
  7. Actually, my initial post was to be an encouragement for those geocachers who aren't already doing so to please consider writing notes on missing trackables' pages. Think of it: a trackable is missing from a well-visited geocache since mid-2006, and while that geocache has accumulated more than 100 logs since then (I counted), there are only FIVE notes on the trackable's page! I agree that the moderators have their hands full. Given all the rants about missing geocoins and TBs, I believe this is a way for us to take some action, inform those who need to be informed, and try to alleviate some of the frustration for any geocacher who has ever been disappointed about missing trackables. It's not a cure-all, but it's a possible solution. Blue Deuce, I like your wording and am going to send it on today, politely and in the spirit of "let's keep geocache inventories accurate." Not everyone is concerned about this, but I can rest easy (and quietly!) knowing that I've done all I can do.
  8. Happy December 3rd! I think these will make great SWAG or TBs...you just can't get enough GLOW.
  9. Giving this thread a "bump" for those geocachers who haven't seen it yet! During your holiday caching endeavors, if you find a geocache that has trackables listed online but they are physically missing from the cache, please consider writing two logs: 1) the "found it" log for the cache, and include a few words about trackables missing 2) a "writes note" log for the trackable(s) that are missing NOTE: It could be that another cacher hasn't logged that he/she has moved the trackable, so please keep all notes cordial. The reason I wanted to bump this thread is because of a THIS TRACKABLE listed in THIS CACHE. As you can see, the cache is one that is found by at least 10 people every year. The trackable has been missing since 2006, but there are only FIVE notes on the trackable's page: one for every year it has been missing. If we all take a few extra minutes to do this, and encourage others to do the same, we might not be as disappointed by missing trackables as often. Happy caching, all!
  10. Happy December 2nd! I like twinkly, sparkly things...
  11. Happy December 1st! Not sure how we are supposed to share our Advent Missions (one post per day? all at once?), but hopefully this is what the mission organizer had in mind. I will keep my fingers crossed that everyone who sends a mission receives one shortly, or by the 24th, as Cheesy Pigs so smartly observed!
  12. If you toss a winning raffle ticket into my shipment of le Chat's, I promise to respond with my "I won!" in a reasonable amount of time.
  13. Are you saying that I should not have done what I did? My intention was to notify the geocaching community, not to mislead anyone. So, did I do the wrong thing? From my understanding discovery logs are normally reserved for a coin that you physically see. There for you "discover" it. I could be wrong, anyone else have incite on a "discovery" log vs a "note" log? In this instance, I think Team kizb has a point. GregsonVaux could have notified the coin owner with a "Writes Note" just as effectively as with a "Discovered It" message; the coin owner gets it either way and the story of this event is on the coin's page. Technically, anyone logging a "Discovered It" because they saw the tracking number on eBay is virtually logging that Sputnik coin. You didn't physically see the coin in a cache or at an event, therefore it's a virtual "discovery." Your intentions to notify the coin owner are laudable and I hope others who encounter such things will do the same, but do so with a "Writes Note" log on the coin's page or with a message through geocaching.com . In my humble opinion of this particular situation, "Write Note" should have been used, as it would have accomplished the same goal of notifying the coin owner (and keeping an interesting history!) without violating gc.com rules/guidelines. If you want to share information, there are ways to do it that don't involve virtual logs: "write note" or send a message to the coin owner. If you want to spread information AND keep the icon with a "Discovered It" log because that's how you choose to remember things, well... I think we all lead by example.
  14. Hi, Carpfisher! It's great that you've found AND moved a geocoin so quickly! Now, I think what you need to do is the following: 1) Go to the cache page in which you've placed the coin (Number 39). 2) Click on "Log your Visit" for the cache, and then select "Write Note" 3) At the bottom of the "Write Note" field, there should be a list of geocoins in your possession. Since you have only the one, it should be easy to find! Change the pull-down menu for the geocoin to "Dropped Off" 4) Submit your note, and the geocoin should be in the cache and out of your possession. IF you go through these steps and you don't see a geocoin on the "Write Note" page, then you should contact the good people at geocaching.com It's not really intuitive, now that I think about it. In order to drop off a trackable (coin or TB), you do it from the cache page. Funny, but that's how it works. NOW, I'm not sure if there is an easier way to do this, since you are the cache owner. I don't own any geocaches myself, so perhaps other folks who visit these forums have a better suggestion? Good luck, and happy geocaching!
  15. Email sent through geocaching.com I love races!
  16. I have found coins in caches, and moved them along! Whenever coins or TBs are listed but NOT present, I always post a note on the pages of the coins and TBs. This lets the owner know that the website is not necessarily accurate. Hopefully those of you who are frustrated with missing TBs or coins are doing the same...

  19. I have seen a whole bunch of them. Tease!
  20. I am SOOOO excited to see these up close and personal. Has anyone received theirs yet?! Mine are on the way, but I'm lacking patience at the moment...
  21. I agree with Droo's post, and will add a bit of my own 2 cents. Pre-sales: I never thought of these as insulting. I appreciated the cost of minting a coin, and was happy to be a part of the final product. Unfortunately, I was burned after shelling out a nice sum of my money to a pre-sale for a set of geocoins that was never completed. I received reassurances from the designer that the coins were having problems at the mint, and to please be patient. I was. In the end, I was not part of a successful coin project. I felt swindled, and as a result I will not participate in pre-sales again. Ever. I don't want to assume the risk for a coin-maker's dream, and pre-sales put the risk on the coin buyer. Reservations: I enjoy these. I've never left a vendor high and dry with coins that I've said I would pay for when they are available. I like that I am assured of the coin(s) I want, and I trust the coin maker to do everything possible to make the coins a reality. If the project doesn't materialize (i.e., no coins made), then I'm not hurt financially, just disappointed that I don't get a new coin. The bottom line for me: If a coin maker feels strongly about his/her dream AND wants to be a good seller for other who want to buy the dream, then I think they need to assume all up-front costs/risks.
  22. I really love the birds along the perimeter of the front side. Quite a diversity is featured - are you a birder/ornithologist?! At any rate, I will be very interested in these coins if/when they are minted. Hopefully you are not considering a pre-sale, though? I don't participate in those since I was badly burned by the vendor-who-must-not-be-named. Reservations, though, I love. Any other colors schemes? Blue is appropriate for the sky, but green is lovely, too.
