  1. Email Sent: Yes, 28 October 2010 Name Received: Yes, 7 November 2010 Mission Sent: Mission Received: I've thoroughly stalked...I mean, investigated...my recipient, since they are new to me! I think I have a coin that will do, and should be able to mail this mission well in time for the holidays. Thank you, Laval K-9 for hosting this mission!
  2. This is just a suggestion - apologies if I've already said this - but perhaps future senders should contact their prospective recipients through their gc.com profiles? This does ruin the surprise factor, but it ensures that recipients are ready and willing to accept and send on a mission. I did this with Chur, who had not been in the forums much nor had she been caching. She did respond to my email that she was ready to receive the mission, so you never know. This was such a great idea for a mission and had a great track record for over a year, which is amazing. In the spirit of keeping things going, a little communication can go a long way. Happy caching, everyone!
  3. I love, love, love glow, and these coins are WAY fun! Those eyes just pop in the black nickel version - well done.

  5. Activation code received (thank you, www.geocaching.com !) and the adoption notice has been sent to QuiltinNana. Hope the Bay Leaf quilt coin is appropriate!
  6. She HAS reasons, including but not limited to the passing of one of her dogs, minting SEVERAL new geocoins and new versions of other coins, mailing them to the people who purchased them, and then tending to her REAL work and life. If you know her at all, you'll know that losing a pet is like losing a valued family member. If you follow her work, you know that her coin sells are arguably the most popular out there, and that ALL of her coins sell, which means that's a lot of mailing to do. I appreciate your frustration, I really do. In tsun's case, there are other things going on and she deserves patience from all of us. This is supposed to be FOR FUN, and a way to get more geocoins travelling. I think you've lost a little perspective here, and your poor attitude makes people not want to host cointests like this at all. Speaking for myself, I do not want to see this mission closed. Also, if you wanted a Cache Hopper geocoin, perhaps you should have tried to trade for it? I'm sure the coin you activated for this mission would have made an attractive trade for a tsun coin, yes?
  7. Yes these coins were drilled and tagged just like the rest. The language on the tag can be seen on the PGR website. Darn. That means my gut was correct: another geocacher with only an interest in 6-character tracking codes and not necessarily reading anything else! *sigh* Oh well. To each their own, I suppose, but I can't help feeling a little bit critical. Thanks for the clarification!

  11. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes with this, but I couldn't find a 2010 thread of this nature. If there IS one out there, moderators feel free to close this one. Iinspired by Shilo's 2009 thread, but edited to reflect 2010: Just about 4 years ago, kealia started a thread for us to track the distance traveled of our coins released in 2006. 2 years ago, chaosmanor started the 2007 edition, and Shilo revived threads for 2008 and 2009. Seems like it's time to do the same for geocoins released in 2010. No prizes, just a little ego-boost and some bragging rights The same rules apply as from kealia's thread; they were pretty good then, so I'm quoting Shilo quoting kealia verbatim, with only the year info, the thing about "bolding" and Rule #6 added: Simple guidelines for listing your coin here: 1) List recent coins only (released this year: 2010 only) 2) No more than 2 coins per cacher (so one person doesn't monopolize the page) 3) List the release date and mileage 4) When you add yours, just copy the list and insert your coin (sort by mileage with the most at the top; feel free to BOLD your coins so that we all can see them easily) 5) Rinse and repeat 6) BTW: Personal tracking coins (those kept by the owner as a record of caches found) are not eligible. We're looking for coins that you have let go and no longer have any real control over. The main idea here is to have fun!
  12. BLAST from the past BUMP! I didn't even know what geocoins were until January 2008, so I don't have any coin mileage for this year...

  15. So, a recent "Discovered it" log for one of my racers (TB3H1GK) stated that the cacher didn't realize my coin was in a race, or he/she/they would have moved it along. This was Racer #6, the coins that were donated by oakcoins. Were these coins also drilled so that the racing tags could be attached? I assumed they were, and that this post was just another example of someone not really reading the information obviously present. But, I didn't want to jump to negative conclusions (I'm a tad cranky today), so I thought I'd get some confirmation. Thanks for all the updates, Shilo!
  16. Really? Full disclosure here: I adopted out coins for so people could participate this very mission and I am STILL waiting to place them. This was MONTHS ago, and I'm sure the people are very frustrated with me. I wanted to really try to give the coins a fighting chance to get to MT, and then the pressures of academic deadlines fell, and fell hard. Am I proud? No. Would I much rather have been geocaching and placing trackables for people? Absolutely! Why didn't I just drop everything and geocache all the time? Well, treat this like a Mab Lib and insert any life event ________________here_________________________. Other than activating a geocoin, you've risked NOTHING in this cointest. The rewards here are that you get to watch a coin travel AND possibly receive a second coin in return. We all know how often trackables go missing. I think it's pretty awesome that your coin made it to one of two destinations. If you wanted a mission with guarantees, perhaps some of the other missions/cointests where your coins are mailed directly to you would have been a better choice. Enjoy the journey.
  17. Adoption requests sent to: hurlmon davvvy JB10-4 Waiting on activation code for a coin to send to QuiltinNana. I had to contact geocaching.com for the activation code, as the website associated with her Quilt Trail coin is no longer running. Once I get the activation code, I'll send the request and update my progress here. Happy geocaching all!
  18. A question to would-be mission participants: OK, so the most recent deadline (30 September) came and went, I had only four participants. I have contacted these people to see if they are still interested in participating in a birthday mission this year. If so, would we have any other takers on another batch mission, this one to include all October, November, and December birthdays? Anyone? Please contact me through my geocaching.com profile. Details for a new mission (if there is enough interest): All participants must contact me by 15 November. Missions will be emailed to everyone by 16 November. Missions should be mailed by December 1st, to ensure that overseas packages arrive before the new year, AND so participants can get their missions out of the way before the Christmas season. Any thoughts?
  19. I'm ba-ack! 1. Participating: Yes, email sent (to myself) 25 August 2010 2. Mission Name Received: Yes, email sent from myself 1 September 2010 3. Outgoing Mission Mailed: Yes, 14 September 2010 4. Incoming Mission Received: Yes, a while ago! thanks to dreddel10 for a thoughtful mission!
  20. My Teal cache hopper, TB321JX, is in the UK and doing well! Here's a recent photo...
  21. Thank you to everyone who responded - I am really appreciative and happy to say that I will see four of the original versions soon! NOW... does anyone happen to have the BAST version of this coin and be willing to trade for something? I think Bast was the version available at Geocoinfest, yes? I know better than to ask for the AE - I was consistently outbid on that one! Trade made - thank you!
  22. A few hours left to get in on the birthday mission for May through October! Also, is anyone interested in taking over the birthday mission for November - December 2010? It is not terribly difficult. I'd be happy to answer any questions for those who think they would like to try something new with geocoin missions but haven't managed anything like this before. Mission assignments will be sent out either a little after midnight (central time) or tomorrow morning, to give everyone a chance!
  23. I am proud to announce the winner of my cointest. Thank you to all participants for your creativity, your willingness to share a bit of yourselves, and for your patience while I waited until the end of the month to give all senders a fair chance for postcards to arrive. For those of you who like statistics, here is a summary of everything I received: Number of postcards received: 34 Number of countries represented: 7 (Canada = 3, Germany = 3, Japan = 1, The Netherlands = 2, Sweden = 1, United Kingdom = 1, and United States = 23) Number of states represented from USA: 12 (Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington) To give you some idea of the creativity, one of you began your postcard with "Dear Mom and Dad." This postcard happened to arrive on a day when I was out of town and my husband read it first. As we do not have human children, he was more than a little confused, especially when he double-checked the address and realized it was not mis-delivered! Another of you wrote from the perspective of your pet, which definitely allowed me to experience a new place from a new point of view. And one of you just had me in stitches, due largely to the name of the places you visited and the way you recounted them on paper! Reading that one out loud was so much fun. So, on to the results... Here is a picture of "the haul." I thought about finding a large map of the world and then tacking the cards on the map indicating their origin, but that image will have to remain an unrealized idea. If you look closely, you can see the winner's card with the coin on it. See it? No? Here's a close-up: The winner is Jackalgirl! (yep, your postcard made it!) The detail with which she described her summit of Mt. Fuji was incredible - it was as though I was there, too. How she writes so clearly at such a small size, I will never know. I need some lessons, for sure. She also included some photos to complement the writing, which I didn't think was possible on a postcard. I have new ideas for how to make my postcards to friends and family more personal and more vibrant, so thank you, Jackalgirl, for some new tricks! I'll contact you for your mailing address and get your prize out ASAP, For those of you who aren't familiar with the coin, it is the Black Widow version of the Tranquility coin. Thank you, again, to all participants. It was a lot of fun for me, and I hope somewhat enjoyable for you all as well. Best, Penny and Kona PS Edited to share Jackalgirl's words with all of you!
