  1. Wasn't there a cache in Washington state that did the lock and key tb? Found it A Lock On The Buzz
  2. When you search for new caches in your area or when you get the weekly update e-mail, there should be some way to distinguish "micro" from traditional. Caches that look like traditional caches on the list turn out to be altoid containers when you actually start reading the cache description. There should be a way to separate the "log-only" caches from others. Cathy McCaughan
  3. So, we could be GEONET. Appealing name for those of us who are computer addicted. Do we have a definite meeting date and location yet? Why does the group need money? Becoming a non-profit group takes time and maintaining it is even worse. Cathy
  4. I like East Tennessee Geocachers with the mountains in the logo. People can add their town to the name if they want. ETG - Knoxville, ETG - Johnson City, etc. Cathy
  5. We have already talked to Knoxville Parks and Recreation and they are happy about the geocaching on their property. Cathy
  6. Names we've thought of include: Geocaching Families of East Tennessee and East Tennessee Geocachers I'll have to sit and doodle some logo thoughts. There are some Geocaching logos already in the Cafe Press shops. Cathy McCaughan
  7. Gatti's on Kingston Pike (near Army Surplus where you buy ammo boxes) has a meeting room but that might be too small. The 24th is a good date for us. Cathy McCaughan
  8. That event activity sounds like chaos. I personally think that if a bug went to an event, the person that leaves with it should log it. Geocaching Families of East TN
  9. Put your address on the TB's mission page. You can always edit it and make a new one. Or "email me for current address" Geocaching Families of East TN
  10. It's good to know a record of all logs is kept. I still think it would be nice for the cache owner to see the deleted log (struck through) even if the cache owner couldn't recover it or edit it. Perhaps on the front end where users see it a note could say "Log by CachersName Deleted" I like trippy1976's idea of being notified when a log is deleted. 11. quote:Originally posted by Harrald:There is a difference between _Visited and Found_ It was found 8 days ago. Yesterday though someone logged a _note_ about dropping off a travel bug. Exactly! Came to that realization just a moment ago myself and sure enough, the math adds up. Thanks. Doug Geocaching Families of East TN
  12. Hello All! My Cache page shows one of my caches having been visited 8 days ago when in reality it was visited yesterday. I've cleared my browser cache and checked from another computer. Has anyone else noticed this kind of behavior? Doug Geocaching Families of East TN
  13. quote:Originally posted by adampierson:I don't believe it is necessary to have an official label, ... I agree that its not necessary but is sure make a BIG difference. The cost is negligible. And there are 2 different providers of the stickers out there. Doug of McCaughan Family Geocaching Families of East TN
  14. Hello All! The [delete] on log entries is too easy. I've had email notifications about caches or TBs and by the time I view the page the reference is gone. Instead of deleting a log entry, would it not be more prudent to "archive" the log entry. Users visiting the cache page would not be able to see the archived entry. Owners of the cache would see the log entry with a line through it. The cache owner could "undelete" ("un-archive" rather) the log entry. This would also help solve the problem of lost miles on travelbugs by accidental deletion of log entries. As a database programmer and web application developer, I would happily lend my resources to helping on such a modification. Doug of McCaughan Family Geocaching Families of East TN
  15. quote:Originally posted by Woodbutcher68:There's a fine line between Geocaching and mental illness, I'm just not sure which side of the line I'm on! As someone who works in the mental health field, I have to use that quote! Great one! Thanks! Cathy Geocaching Families of East TN
  16. It would be great to have an organization particularly to have events promoting Geocaching, and encourage understanding of Geocaching with the politicians and parks and recs people. We could also have organized CITO events or for particular caches. It would be wonderful if the group would help maintain the overall quality of all caches in the area through events such as CITO or awareness caching. We could not lead an association but would certainly join and participate. We may even be able to help design a logo, t-shirts, and website. McCaughan Family Geocaching Families of East TN
  17. We are about an hour to hour and a half south at W 84 1.792. I think someone a little more west in the Nashville area would be closer to your latitude. Geocaching Families of East TN
  18. The stickers are well worth the money. Also, clear containers. We are doing our first ammo can just because a critter is eatting our cache Geocaching Families of East TN
  19. ok. Knoxville TN wants to know too. Geocaching Families of East TN
  20. I don't understand why Tupelo Cache didn't link in the above reply. Here it is again: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=71608 Geocaching Families of East TN
  21. Hello Natureboy1326! We made the West Knoxville TravelBug Hotel just for you! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=75932 It's on the combined stretch of I-40/I-75 and is an easy off, easy on part of the interstate jam packed with restaurants, shopping opportunities, gas stations and hotels. Other caches nearby include Tupelo Cache-we highly recommend!-http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=71608 and Knights inn the Woods http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=26573 This section of Knoxville is loaded with great caching. Enjoy! Doug of the McCaughan Family Geocaching Families of East TN
  22. For efnet users there is #geocaching - not enough activity in it to regionalize it yet. Geocaching Families of East TN
  23. I like the metal bugs. As for the plastic idea, since so many people attach a goal card to the bug anyway, why not have the plastic instruction card come with the metal tag. Then the bug is both metal and plastic. Tracking number metal. Instructions (replaceable) plastic. My kids (13, 10 and 7--the 1 year old can't have the chain for a few years) love the chain because they can wear their "copy" and it gives them more ownership of their bug. I think it also cements the concept that this thing they can't see is out there somewhere. I think the cost of the bug is more than reasonable. And if the cost went up to cover the addition of the plastic instructions I think it would still be reasonable. Doug ps. the plastic tag could be designed like the photo key flobs so a printed "goal" could be inserted into it. Instructions pre-printed on one side; printable goal snapped into the other side. 24. You might want to add the travel bug tracking number (eg. TB554F = Army Truck)[not the 6 digit id]. This is a number that could be put into the log book or logged online that allows people to search on the bug but not to log it as found. I think if the number were in front of people they'd be more inclined to mention it in their logs. I know I've come across log entries that have said "Mister so and So" dropped off followed by "Mr so and so" picked up. The abbreviation and variation in case can make searching for the bug difficult. Geocaching Families of East TN
