  1. Nobody is finding them or nobody is even looking for them?
  2. I hate the word because I can never remember whether it is muggle or muggel. I don't like the word because it was taken from a movie in which I have no interest. I wish we could use a word of our own. No, I am not clever enough to suggest one.
  3. When in doubt or just confused, always contact the TB/coin/cache owner.
  4. I do not know about any official protocol, but if it was my cache I would greatly appreciate it if you replaced the log. You should then offer to mail the log to the owner.
  6. Even if food was not strictly forbidden, would you really feed your beloved pet food you found in the woods? Keep your eyes open next time you go to any store. You will be surprised how many smaller items under $2 you can find.
  7. In my caches I have tried to ask people to log what they take and what they leave, but it never happens. There seem to be lots of people who think that a toy that was eaten by a dog and passed through the animals digestive tract is worth the same as a brand new HotWheels car, for example. Or a 50-cents-off coupon (that expired three months ago) is "same-or-even" with a new CD.
  8. I remember my first LPC cache some five years ago, before the term even existed. It was very exciting after I finally figured out what action was required to reveal the container. Had I been able to read about it ahead of time, or had someone told me about it ahead of time, it would not have been exciting at all. So people are not always rude or weird, they just might want to give you the opprtunity to have the same "aha" moment they had.
  9. Olen seuraavista syista ehka mahdollisesti saattanut siirtaa purkkia: 1) loysin sen nakyvalta paikalta tai kohdasta joka mielestani on huono Tliian pieni, marka, likainen) ja ihan vieressa (alle 30cm) on parempi paikka 2) olin taysin huolimaton ja en kunnolla kiinnittanyt huomiota asioihin ennen kuin otin purkin esille. Jos olen taman tehnyt niin pyydan anteeksi. Itsellani on purkki jossa yksi sivu kuudesta on paalystetty kaarnalla, muut viisi sivua ovat valkoista muovia. Tarkoitus "tietysti" on jattaa ainoastaan naamioitu sivu nakyviin. Yhdeksan kertaa kymmenesta kun tarkistan asian niin se on palautettu vaarin pain.
  10. I wish you had posted this last week. I am going to Finland in three days. Maybe next time.
  11. A trained Search & Rescue K9 can find in the woods a single tooth that was lost two years ago. Are you sure the hospital will just hand you the bloody piece of bone? Isn't that a biohazard? I am not sure boiling alone would clean it. Try soaking it in bleach. If it is too macabre for someone, he/she does not have to take it. A kid will not recognize it, and why would a kid be scared of a piece of bone?
  12. Do not leave an item that was chewed by your kid/dog, or anything dirty, used, broken. Do not buy a bag of 20 party favors and leave one for a DVD or for a brand new Hot Wheels car. Do not leave a 10-percent-off coupon that expired last month. Swag is not just for kids, I still enjoy it myself. I like tools or items that could be used in caching/hiking.
  13. Have you tried asking the owner for a hint? Did you log a DNF? It certainly is possible the cache has gone missing. Keep your eyes on it and wait and see if somebody else finds it. Don't give up.
  14. Will you have access to a car? Do you want just downtown caches or caches in suburbs as well? Have far can you walk?
  15. My Profile/Search for Nearest Caches/Map It shows a map but no caches. No list of caches shows up, either. Find All earby Caches gives a list of caches, but Map It again gives just a map with no caches. Is there something I am supposed to set differently? I do not believe it is just my computer because under Search Results it says "zero caches displayed". Please help!
  16. Olisi varmannkin hyva idea virallisesti "archive" katko niin etta ihmiset jotka eivat vieraile nailla sivuilla saisivat saman tiedon. Talla hetkella katko on viela "active".
  17. Hello. My name is ncfinn and I am a mathgeek. I notice "nice" or historically important numbers (years) more than round/even milestones. For example 1818 and 1881 were more memorable than 1800 or 1900. I should hit 1917 soon. Bonus points to those who can figure out why I would celebrate that number.
  18. I as a cacher (and not the owner) pay attention to Needs Maintenance logs left by others. If a cache I am planning on visiting has one, I will try to take with me the materials needed to repair the cache. I don't always read all the previous Notes or Found It's.
  19. Earlier this summer I took a couple of TB's to a local event. I watched a person i did not know pick up one of them and say: "I like this one, i can help it move". I was happy that a TB I had brought there would not disappear into the Black Hole of TB's. It has now been six months and the person still has not logged it. The other TB I left there is still showing up at the event. I know it was not really left there. I thought I could trust all my local cahers. Now I know better and will never again take TB's to an event unless I directly hand the Bug over to a ccaher I already know well.
  20. You can e-mail the owner directly through his/her profile.
  21. Have you (or your wife) ever walked in the woods? Just because you know you need to go "one mile straight north" does not mean you will be able to actually walk to the stop in a straight line. There are rivers, mountains, swamps, impassable jungle out there, and you need to be able to figure out the best way to get to the spot. Unless you consentrate on WalMart parking lots. And even after you find the right spot, you are not guaranteed to find the cache. On the way to the cache you can see and hear and experience all kinds of nature and beautifull sights.
  22. I go to the spot and wait for the GPSr to settle down. Then for the next ten or so minutes I write down all the readings I get. I throw out the extremes. I then see if any one reading is considerably more common than any other reading. If not, I take the average of all of them. I then return different day of the week and different time of day (this seems to give me a different set of satellites) and do it all over again. The final set is an average of the two collected sets. I thought everybody did something similar, I did not think that anybody just glanced down once and went with that. I now understand why some co-ords are so far off.
  23. Even if food was allowed, I would never feed my animals anything I found in a box in the woods. Too many crazy people out there.
