  1. Maybe too late now, but would this help danish geocaching forum http://webfora.dk/geocaching
  2. When 'm dead, you have my permission to place a cache right on the grave. I want people to visit me, and i want people to have fun around my grave. In my opinion these caches are fine as long as you don't destroy property or turn over grave stones.

    Traveling to US?

I live in North Carolina near Raleigh (GC13F0A). I will be going to Finland and returning to the U.S. in July. I am currently unemployed so i have plenty of time for caching. I could possibly drive to a nearby state to meet with you at a cache or something. I am currently considering flying through Chicago, are you anywhere near there? You can contact me directly through my profile.
  4. Can you give a link to the cache in question? Maybe it is a local term. Somebody's name?
  5. Thanks a million for everything! If it does not rain, this should be a great little trip for me. If you hear in the news on Jan 27 that a mud-covered, suspicuously acting weirdo was spotted at the airport, that'll be me.
  6. Thank You all for your help. The BigBoxLittleBox series sounds really good. Is it safe and legal to walk along the Great S W Rd? Is there a trail along the river, or should i walk on the roads and enter the woods only when near a cache? Since my time is limited, i want to try to avoid walking in circles too much. Happy caching to y'all.
  7. You are confusing NC with West Virginia! I am really a Finn, so i will be wearing boots made of reindeer hides. Or clogs. I will have one more plane to catch that day, but i do not mind a little bit of mud. I just don't want to fall into the river.
  8. Definitely do not CHANGE the dnf log into a find log. Leave the old dnf and add a new "found". The dnf logs are very helpful to other cachers. I always look at the dnf-to-found counts when deciding if i want to go after a specific cache.
  9. Thanks! Are there sidewalks and pedestrian crossings leading to these spots? Not all large airports are that pedestrian friendly.
  10. Hi! Are there any caches that can be found while on a layover at Heathrow? 1. Anything within a safe (not too much traffic) walking distance ? 2. Anything where i could hop on a bus or a train, ride to a spot, get a few caches, ride back to the airport? Even better if the caches are easier to find and not too tricky. I am hoping to have 5+ hours at the airport in a few weeks. Thanks a bunch!
  11. I would think of more remote or "closed" countries and then see if i could find a cache listed there. Or compare a listing of all countries with the lsting on these pages.
  12. Try contacting locals (through these forums), most likely you will find someone able to help you.
  13. My GPSr does that at times, and it is very annoying. Where ever I go, it wants me to go another 80 feet, for example. Or I am walking in the direction of the arrow, yet the distance-to-go is increasing. Assuming I am not in a cave or next to a power station, i just wait a few minutes for the unit to settle down.

  15. I would like to get back to the original topic of responsibility. Yes, it is the owner's responsibility to select a good container and to maintain it. But those of us who find these containers should play a part in cache maintenance. Too many times I have found a cache that was not closed properly by the previous finder. Too many times the previous finder did not seal the baggie properly. I recently found a cache that was wet. Nothing strange in that, but it had been found by several others in the previous 48 hours, and not a single one mentioned in his/her online log that it was wet. The cache is probably not going to get fixed if the owner does not know about the problem. I have found numerous torn baggies, but i don't recall ever having seen anybody else mention this in a log. I try to carry extra baggies with me, but sometimes forget. If I (as a finder, not owner) know that a cache needs a baggie, i will make sure to have extras with me.
  16. Many times remembering to look up is part of the challenge. I don't think you should always reveal that the cache is above the head. You may if you want, but i feel it takes something away from the challenge. Being high up in a tree is very different from being too high for shorter people. Most experienced cachers carry tools/equipment to use with caches that are just beyond their reach. If everybody has to climb to reach the cache, give it a higher terrain rating. If it is harder for some people, you do not need to up the terrain rating. IMHO, that is.
  17. I am not really trying to solve this particular cypher, I don't even know where it is. My question still is: What search-word do you use? How did you come up with it? Anything you know is easy to you. "Obviously" this is not easy for all.
  18. I have been caching since 2002 and have no clue here. What search word would you use in Google? Im pretty sure its the Baconian cipher. Googling it confuses me though. I don't think the regular Baconian Cipher uses lower/upper case. Could be some higher version of it. I still would like to know how flask would Goggle something like that. Just searching "ciphers" seems much too broad.

  20. CUTE! Keep us posted. Have you thought of appropriate baby names yet? I believe that the more you handle her, the more she will get used to it and will stop biting you.
  21. Try posting on the German-language forum. Ask if there is a cacher fluent in both German and English willing to translate some pages for you.
  22. Eiko vaitoskirjastasi tulisi parempi jos itse olisit etsinyt jemmoja? Olisi ehka helpompi ymmartaa ihmisia ja vastauksia jos olisi enemman omaa kokemusta. Olen kylla muuten halukas auttamaan asiassa. Ota yhteytta jos haluat.
  23. Be prepared to see people around your house at night. Be prepared to hearnoisy people. Be prepared to large crowds coming together. I am a "dog person" and will stay far away from barking dogs. No matter how much I like them, some dogs still want to shred me to pieces. If you have to place it on private property, even if not right next to the house, make sure cachers know it is your land and they have a permission to be there. I personally stay far away from fish-bowl caches, i.e. those where people will be watching me search.
  24. 1. Make sure the cache description clearly states it is YOUR yard. 2. Make sure all your neighbors know about it and do not call the police when they see a person lurking in the bushes at 3 in the morning. 3. Be prepared to find people lurking in the bushes at 3 in the morning.
