  1. Thanks for the reception. I try to participate in the geocaching community and this is what I get. If I could afford to pay for advertisement I would have done it. I'm trying to get started so I came to this site for which I am a long time member and you guys treat me like s**t. You are being completely rude and close minded. You can't even let me speak my piece. The moderator over moderated that post to the fullest degree. You guys are blowing this subject completely out of proportion. What a joke.
  2. Forgive me father, for I have spammed. Aparently it is against the rules here to post more than one post regarding the same product in the garage sale forum...And if you post twice....well then, shame on you, you have spammed. I got my hand slapped and a posting closed because I posted twice in 10 days concerning the same product. Like I said in that post, I'm not trying to push any buttons here. I hadn't planned on posting annoyingly large amount of post from now to eternity. I just wanted to spread the word around that I am selling these things in hopes that I could then sell them via word of mouth. I post twice and you guys act like I planted a neon sign in your living room. If you feel the need to remove the post, then remove it. I just thought this is a product that can be used here. It takes people an average of seven times to see an ad before they actually recognize it. I thought I could use a quasi creative selling technique to help me get started. I now see that some folks here might be a little too uptight to receive what I have to offer the geocaching community. I apologize for what I have done. Have a good day.
  3. Not trying to spam, just trying to get the word out. Didn't mean to push buttons. Guess I'll ad elsewhere. I thought this was the garage sale forum where you advertise things to sell. spam n. Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail. -dictionary.com Not really sure I fit that catagory either. Nobody is forcing you to click on the link. Thanks for the response.

  7. Awhile back someone posted about the "Hazards of DEET". A debate began and some folks were skeptics about alternate types of mosquito repellent. They refuse to believe that even though DEET is known to peel paint, melt plastic, and cause psychological problems, it is still a better way to repel mosquitos than alternate organic types of repellents. I stumbled across this article today while browsing through backpacker.com and thought some people would find it interesting. Take it for what you will. After seeing DEET melt the plastic on my pocket knife, I have avoided using DEET at all costs. I have found a hemp based repellent that has eucolyptus and bay in it that works as well as DEET. If I have to use DEET I use the lowest concentration that I can find. Everything in moderation, and I try to reserve the use of DEET to only when absolutely necessary. Have a good one. http://www.backpacker.com/technique/article/0,1026,1999,00.html Aronius Farewell Mother Hips....for now. [This message was edited by Aronius on July 04, 2003 at 10:48 PM.]
  8. I'm sure that had to find a form of plastic that wouldn't melt to the plastic. The hemp mosquito repellant was a gift so I decided to try it and it works as good as DEET based repellant, it doesn't smell as bad, and feel that it is safe enough to put on my dog. I don't have to feel like my stuff is going to melt in my pack. Plus it doesn't smell as bad. I like it better. Why put a man made chemical that melts plastic on your skin when this stuff works just as good and it's more natural? Trust me I'm no hippie, I drive an SUV, I don't recycle as much as I should, but if there is a good alternative to DEET it only makes sense to me to use the "not so invasive" repellant. 9. I had a similar experience with DEET back in 1996. I carried my mosquito repellent (extra strength), my Buck swiss army knife and other things in a pouch on the belt of my fire pack back when I was on a firecrew. One day, I opened the pouch and found that my extra strength mosquito repellent had leaked all over the bag. When I pulled my knife out the repellent had melted the plastic handle almost all the way to the metal. The melted plastic had rubbed off on to my hands and became like dried super glue on my hands. It was a mess. If DEET can do that to plastic imagine what it does to your skin!!! Needless to say I don't use DEET based repellents. Risking sounding like a hippie, I now use a hemp based repellent that I feel safe using on me and also my dog. I find it to work as good as regular repellents if not better. The brand is THC - The Tahoe Hemp Company. They have a website (just type it in to Google). If the page doesn't list the product e-mail the guy. Hope this helps. Later. 10. Hey folks, It's been a while since I have checked out the forum. My life only allows for so many obsessions and I probably fit more in than most, unfortunately this forum had to be cut to make room for some other things. Anyway, for some this may be old news, but for those who haven't done it yet, check it out. I have been taking my dog to this park in Martinez, Ca called Briones Regional park. The park allows for your dog to be off leash but asks that you remove your dogs doot. For some reason my dog seems to wait until we're too far in to just throw it in the garbage, but too far from the end to carry it out. So, I have found that waypointing the doot with my GPSr helps a billion. I just modify my hike so that we loop back around and scoop up the doot with a bag on the way out. That way I don't have to hump a smelly bag o' doot in my pack and if it gets dark or I forget the landmarks than all I have to do it follow my GPSr....it's like geocaching all over again....only it smells like (*&^%. Just think, the next generation in geocaching...Geodooting!!! Yeah baby! I figured this was a pretty common sense idea but I had to post it anyway, just for fun. 15. Take your dog with you and let the them figure it out. If you really want pepper spray then I would go where the cops and the mailmen shop...Uniform shops usually have a large selection somewhere near the belts and holsters. Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  16. EVERGREENHIKER!!!! DID I JUST NOT SAY THAT THERE ARE OTHER POLLS...INCLUDING AN ETREX POLL. Farewell Mother Hips....for now.

  18. OK folks...Did a little browsing on the net and I found a site. Go to the Pictures link...it has some good pics during different seasons. I noticed the site also has a link to a product called Oral Ivy which is suppose to increase your immunity to Poison Oak by adding drops of this stuff into a glass of water and drinking it. Have fun!!!!! Tell me what you think. Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  19. My bad my english is so bad some times!!!!! Quote: "I've heard of people gettign Poison Oak as a child and by their adulthood are completely immune to it." Gotten...Gotten!!!!!! Man I need to go back to school. Let's try again... I've heard of people WHO REACT TO Poison Oak as a child and by their adulthood are completely immune to it. I'm edu-ma-cated...I swear!!!! Aronius Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  20. GeoCraig, Ot probably also helps that your body is also building up an immunity to the Poison Oak each time you get it. I've heard of people gettign Poison Oak as a child and by their adulthood are completely immune to it. I'll see if I can post a photo for you guys...visual aids are always a good thing. 21. Those of you who have mentioned that their GPSr is not on the poll or can't find theie eTrex in this poll it's because when choose to do a poll you only have room to enter 5 choices. I tries to cover most of the GPSr but was not able to cover them all. If you GPSr is not on the list please enter a post...if you have a GPSr that's on another poll please be objective and read the note below the poll. Thanks. Aronius Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  22. UMC, That's what I'm saying....It took a little planning to do the polls...I used all the GPSr's that were on the REI Comparison page hoping to cover a majority of the GPSr units....I had to draw the line somewhere. I noticed people haven't been reading the little side notes refering them to my other polls...oh well...life goes on. The polls have served their purpose...regardless. Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  23. Any geocachers from Chico hang out here? Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
  24. Quote from Marky: " I still try to avoid it when ever possible just to be safe." I usually try to point it out to others also. This way they can positively ID it while they are out. The sooner people figure it out the less suffering they will have to deal with. When I first started to seriously research it I went to a few outdoor type stores in town and no one could give me a consistant description of the plant. This was the days before the internet too, so that wasn't a possibility. I finally took a couple of books out to the park with me until I had a good grasp on what it looked like. Then I learned everything I possibly could on it. Farewell Mother Hips....for now.
