  1. Ya got me reading an old thread and I could'nt stop. I love this gem from that thread. Who said it? When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands with the buttered side facing down. I propose to strap buttered toast to the back of a cat. The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.
  2. Ya got to stop picking on old people. I'm an old people, and I have to step in here. By the way, this day in age don't they tell you to report suspicious activity in your neighborhood? What could be more suspicious than a guy standing with his hands on his hips talking to a stone wall? Wait, that could be me talking to the wife!...never mind.
  3. I resent bieng called an old timer , or an elder on this topic. We have rights too. We have the right to tell you to look it up so we don't have to. Because we can't remember what the topic was about to start with. I wish i could use the search feature to find my hiking stick thats out there leaning on a tree somewhere.
  4. mtndave: If you ever need some company on one of your excursions , let me know. It would be great fun re-discovering the history of our area. Bieng the son of a coal minerI have a keen interest in the old coal breakers that dotted the landscape all over NEPa. I thought there were a lot of culm banks when I was a kid, but what i see in those old photos blows my mind. Thanks again. OBG
  5. mtndave: Thanks for the great link.I have not had as much fun since Google Earth came out. What have you found of intrest so far?I have just started, and found Mtn.Springs photo from the thirtys, and the old artillery park Baseball field and kirby park from the 30's. Pre levy system in Wyoming Valley is great to see. I'll be spending some time on this site You betcha! OBG
  6. If they are working with software for only bikers and runners, I think it's a big mistake. They may have more numbers as a whole, but what % of them them us a GPSR? As for Geocachers the number is 100%
  7. What a bunch of woosies! I have an amo can out here with a magnetic window alarm in it and everybody that has found it loves it. Myahs Cache It has a on/off switch inside the container and a large note with instructions. You can't put something like this just anywhere, but in the right location it can be a lot of fun.
  8. As part of The Ramblers quote says " Most muggles are unaware that wizards exist, and wizards (used to magical ways of doing everything) are perplexed and fascinated by muggle artifacts' If we are the wizards{ which I think we are] Muggles is the correct word. Here's how I see it. Most muggles are unaware that CACHERS exist, and CACHERS (used to magical ways of doing everything) are perplexed and fascinated by muggle artifacts. So there!
  9. I did'nt get a confirmation Email. I just signed up,and got it 10days-2wks later. I kind of forgot about it until it arived. I tried to activate it the regular way, but i guess I forgot what I read when signing up. Maybe they are out.
  10. ""By the way, olbluesguy, I think you meant Newark WEST. East of Newark is Manhattan. "" Yea,I know, but when I think Newark I automaticly think East. . I hate to be a grinch, and rain on anyones parade, but I would rather give a heads up to what's going on up there than for someone to find out the hard way. This topic has been a thorn in my side for years, ever since the Natives started getting driven out by higher taxes, and such. By the way, Mount Airy Lodge recieved a slots licence only yesterday...Happy Motoring.
  11. Not all of pike and monroe counties is like that is it? I need a place where I can't see my neighbor. I work nights, so on my days off, i'd like to be able to swing a hammer and run my saws without having neighbors complain, all at 3:00am of course. Not sure about Pike, but I have Grandchildren in Stroudsburg that are now bieng home schooled. Years ago it was fine when you can come in from NYC or NJ and buy twice the house for half the money with the same commute time as you had from LI, or Conn. Now that commute time is getting much longer. Anyone been on I 80 lately? And behind every gatehouse you pass there may be as many as four thousand homes hidden from the view of the main road. Double the amount you see on this old topo map just in this one development. Notice how the NE. side bumps right up against the Pa State Gamelands. hidden gated community in Monroe
  12. lol is there such a thing? I'm about to join the many who move over to pa, and still commute to nj. I know there are other strings attached to such a move, but nj is really starting to get annoying with taxes and such. And yes, my car insurance is 4 times the amount my friend pays in indiana... Pa is full, there's no more room ! If you'r heading for the Pocono's forget it, its getting like Newark East. Crime, Drugs, and all the big city evils. Sorry if I sound crass, but our infrastructure can't take any more. We have schools here that are obsolete before they open their doors for the first time.
  13. I would recommend removing that shoe before going to the mall or you may have some 'splaining to do to security. I did say it would sound silly, but if you made a strap stirup that you could put your foot thru, and it had velcro on the top you could take a larger mirror out of your pocket, attach it to the top of your toe. then you could just poke your foot under a park bench or whatever without bending down.
  14. This might sound silly, but if you have trouble bending down to look under something try a mirror velcroed to the toe of your boot. you can use a larger mirror than the mechchanics kind mentioned above. Just poke yer foot in there and take a peek. On the other foot you can mount a flashlight the same way. Just keep both in your pocket until you need them.
  15. Recieved a UNite for Diabetes TB tag in the mail today. Went to activte it,and was required to punch in the tag #,and an activation # which I assume is supposed to be in the little zip lock bag it comes in . Well Im holding the bag right now, and no # here. How do I get this bug activated? O'BG
  16. With a little practice you will get the hang of how your unit talks to you. Mark a waypoint on your unit somewhere in your neighborhood,or your property. It could be a bush,or a fire plug or something like that. then go off some distance and walk toward that waypoint, and watch what you unit is telling you. Try comming at it from different areas in the neighborhood you will soon see just how close to the ZONE you will be.
  17. I started a thread today about Geo magnetic storms, but my post wound up in a topic called solar flares. somewhere in the middle of the topic. My OP never appeared under Geo Magnetic storms. Go figgure.....Maybe its the sun spots?
  18. Giant solar flares are expected to have an effect on earth for the next four days. How is this effecting your geocaching where you are?
  19. Yes, you may do whatever you think is right, but others will remember. They will gather in dark corners of events and whisper Truths, half-truths, and downright lies about your numbers. CSI type in depth searches will begin just to find out more. Emails will be sent, Instant messages will be forthcoming, and all of this because you logged your own cache! Their Geocaching schoolmates will ridicule your children, and notes will be passed. Strange writings will start to appear on blackboards. {. JOHNNY'S NUMBERS ARE BOGUS!}... The worst insult will be when the girl at the check out counter at the 99-cent store has your picture on the register. Do whatever you think is right, but remember not everyone will think what you do is right. Peace.
  20. Just a heads up for all on the east coast...This is a night launch, and is supposed to be visible all the way to Maine.
  21. River vista #1 in Northeastern Pa.
