  1. Granted, I haven't read enough about this new item to completely understand it, but my first thought is that it's lame. They stopped allowing well thought out virtuals that got you up and out and doing some actual searching and thinking for this? Too bad.
Virts have been gone for years, so I doubt that these two things are cause and effect.

Also, it should be noted that they are working on a way to bring virts back, in some fashion. Be happy.

Yes, of course, I know the timeline. However, I thought the reasoning behind not allowing virtuals was because they wanted geocachers searching for physical caches. So, are these souvenirs physical?

It would be nice to have virtuals returned. We have a few and always have nice comments made on them.

  2. Ok I got this email via. not good news.

As some of you may have noticed, Groundspeak has just updated the "Cache

Listing Requirements / Guidelines." In order to continue success in

publishing your caches, I wanted to outline the changes for you. These

changes are being implemented in order to take geocaching back to its

    roots.

    Cache Size:

Cache containers must now be of the one quart size or larger. No "nanos,"

matchstick containers, or film canisters will be published. Existing micro

caches will be archived after a one month grace period.

    Saturation:

The 0.1 mile saturation guideline is being increased to 0.5 mile. There is

also a new guideline for "linear" trails (sometimes referred to as "power"

trails). This guideline states that caches may be placed no closer than 2

miles apart and must be in a location that will "wow" your fellow cachers.

    Challenge Caches:

A new cache type and icon is being established for "Challenge Caches." With

this new type is also the requirement that the Challenge Cache owner must

meet the challenge before the challenge can be published. In the case of

existing Challenge Caches, the owners will be given one month to meet the

challenge or the cache will be archived.

    Permissions:

As all land is owned by someone, all cache owners must obtain verifiable

permission from the landowner in writing and fax or email this to me. This

will be kept on file for the duration of the caches existence. I have added

my fax number to my reviewer profile.

    Logging Guidelines:

    1. Physical Logbook: Your physical log must contain more than just a

signature. From now on you must actually write something in the logbook

about your experience finding the cache.

    2. Online Log: Acronyms are no longer an acceptable way to log online. You

must write a minimum of three sentences detailing your experience. Logs

containing TFTC, TFTH, SL, etc. will not be accepted.

As I'm sure you do, I embrace these changes. They will take us back to the

    good old days of geocaching.

    Sincerely,

    Lil Devil

    aka Hemlock

Well, this one took more effort than Boga's, but we're still not biting!!

  3.

JPD43, Kennab4c an I are heading out this afternoon to pick the spot.

We did it! I'm calling them (Merced Irrigation District) in the morning. If all is well, the event will be published tomorrow. Barrett's Cove - the "L" loop is what we liked best. :):D

WOOHOO! I made my reservations! There are 9 spots left in L loop as of this moment (it's a small loop) and every site has hookups. FYI, the Swimming lagoon won't be filled until closer to memorial day, but there is a playground nearby also.

    Trysha,

How'd you pick a spot? And what are the dates again, I've already forgotten!

    Thanks!

  4. Yes, I'm still alive. And I just renewed my premium membership. Expect to see me about a bit more often now. Will be heading out to Kansas in two weeks to see the new grand daughter (and , her parents ). Good chance to get finds in new states. Smores? YUM!

Nice to "see" you, Brute! Welcome back. Maybe we'll see you at S'mores n Snores, huh??

  5. Wowie! I didn't know I was hanging with such a rabble-rouser!! :o

It's pretty quiet around here today. Laundry, dishes, and housework. Letting the grrls in and out. Mr2fer went off with Photom and JPD to find some caches. Hope they have a great day!

  6. Sorry, Wolf Grrl, there was no link. I'm too lame to know how to do that!! I just meant, go look this dude up. I'm glad the situation was successfully resolved. It was probably just some dippy prankster trying to see how long it would take him/her to be caught. Or someone with no life. Our Alaska cache was one of the first logged because they only had 22 caches at the time I got my notification. Then I watched the count climb to over 200 in a heartbeat. Cut and paste is pretty quick.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. (And I hope this makes the yellow go away, Greg!)
