  1. Im looking for good street maps for triton 500, Any suggestions. I've used Mapsend Topo 3D with a explorist 500, and loved it. I can't find verification that Mapsend is compatable with triton 500. Would appreciate help. Thanks
  2. We have several pioneer cemeteries around where we live. These are all " Full " as there are no open spots. Most of these, I never knew exisited because of their size, as well as no cars parked on the roadside of visiting family members. We enjoy going to these types and seeing the headstones that are pre-Civil War era.
  3. Maybe give credit to the beta FTF in the cache description, and still leave regular FTF honors available to who finds it after the activation of the cache. As others have pointed out, it's your cache and your rules!!!
  4. I too have had to move a final location of an "unknown cache" because it was 480 feet from another final location of another " unknown cache " the moderator told me the name of the cache that was already place. I solved the puzzle and found the coordinates, then moved my final location to .10 miles away (only had to move it about 75 feet). Call me old fashioned, but the way the system is now works for me, but then again, I'm not a mega-hider. Cache-On!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. A fellow local cacher emailed me and asked for some help with CM, I put together a CM for dummies step by step process....he emailed me back and said it worked. Here's a copy..... I'll due my best and walk you through how I do it. It may look complicated, but its not First I run a paocket query through GC.Com 2nd I open the zipped file and then copy one of the two files that are in the zipped file (do not copy the file that has "-wpts" at the end, copy the other one. 3rd I paste the copied file on the desktop (or anywhere you can easily find it) 4th I open CMConvert program (available at smittyware.com) 5th (in CMConvert program) Click on load file in upper left hand corner 6th locate the file that you pasted in step 3 and select it ( A file import options window will pop up, I check all boxes) 7th click ok in lower left-hand of pop up ( a confirmation window will pop up informing you of how many waypoints have been loaded. 8th click ok in new pop-up (you should now see all the waypoints, names, items, difficulty,etc... 9th on the CMConverter task bar, click the 4th icon from the left, it is a dark check mark next to an "A" (right below the view tab)---You will notice that all the cache fields turn to a solid blue as they have just been selected to be loaded to your pda 10th click the File tab and choose second option "Export PDB..."---a save as window will pop up 11th type in the name that you want to call the file I use the same name that is used for my pocket query 12th click save--a verification window will pop up stating how many waypoints were converted. 13th click OK --a new pop up will appear stating where the convert file was written to 14th click ok -- a new window will pop up asking you which palm user id you want files sent to at next hotsync>>> 15th choose the name of your palm (most likely theres only one choice) 16th click ok-- a confrimation window will pop up stating at next hotsync files will be transferred 17th click ok Now Go get that Palm, (DON'T HOTSYNC YET) turn it on open cache mate if there are any waypoints there, go to where you they are all listed (don't be on an individual cache page) click record in upper left hand corner>>>then click delete records, it wil then ask for a confirmation>>>choose yes>>>exit cachemate>>>now you can HotSync. After HotSync is done, open cachmate, your new waypoints are waiting to be created, click "ok">>>and that's it your done. Play around with it theres tons of stuff on there that MobiBook didn't have.
  6. I already call them Puzzle caches....All the unknown caches I own are Puzzles. Great Idea, I hope Groundspeak considers the suggestion.
  7. Switched to Cachemate yesterday, paid for the full version. I been playing around with the program yesterday and all day today. WOW!! This program rocks!!! Mobi was a good step going into paperless, but it was limited to a read only application. Cachemate does so much more, it's not as pretty as Mobi, but with all it's applications, it's an awsome tool. I'm not using GSAK, I use CM CONVERT ( free program obtained from cachemates website ). SOOOO...overall it cost me the $8.00.
  8. All I used was mobi too.... will try alternatives !
  9. Out here in California, Geocaching is a family based sport/hobby. We have a daycare and go geocaching as fieldtrips. I read some of the other post that this "F2F nut" has posted, and they seem pretty agressive. I think for the integrety of the sport, geocachers should adopt some form of ethical behavior guidelines in order to participate as well as post on geocaching.com. Let's keep it clean and respectable. It only takes one bad apple... Well just my two cents, I love the sport and the people......well 99.999999 percent
  10. Roaming>>>>Our favorite place to cache are places where we can't get a cel signal (mountains) plus our family is always out-and about. Empire>>>> We own a home daycare and incorporate geocaching as field trip events ( yes...I get paid to geocache!!!!) by doing so, I normally have about 4 to 5 extra set of eyes helping me cache.
  11. My explorist 210 jumped off my suburban back in may and I replaced it with a 500LE ($150.00) which I totally love. I am impressed with the out-of-the-gate pricing on the new Tritons. With all the features that are available even on the basic model, based on the history of both Garmin and Magellan, I am impressed with the suggested retail price.
  12. Hi, I live in California and also have a 500LE. I just edited one of my local poi's with your coordinates listed above. I then viewd it on a gpsr's map. It showed the location as being due north of Goodrich MI along hwy or road 15. Possibly check your Map Units setting under preferences. It should be set at: 1. Coord System- Lat/Lon ~ DEG/MIN.MMM 2. Map Datum - WGS84
  13. I had a 210 and really liked it, I now have a 500LE and love it. RE: Adaptor>>> Walmart has a nifty little car power inverter designed for usb applications http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5425226 I have one similar to it and use it for my 500LE as well as my palm zire.
  14. It would be embarassing to log a DNF on a cache container of that size.
  15. Back to topic, I have a 210 with no maps, which one did you wind up getting, and how is it.
  16. How did you discover geocaching....I love hearing all the different stories!!
  17. Welcome to this crazy world of geocaching!!!! Make sure you get plugged in with some of the local geocachers in your area. If you can't find any geocaching clubs, don't be shy with the emails to some of the locals through geocaching.com under user profiles. They will point you the right way! This is a great sport/hobby with an even greater bunch of people that make it tick. Happy Caching!!!
  18. Great Name!!! I like Psalm 139:14, actually I like Genisis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 ( it's all good!) welcome to geocaching...thanks for the info...I have an explorist 210 and love it. Costco sells the 500LE for $179 with the topo software, and I have been reccommending it to other cachers based on it's price and my 210 experience. I will no longer do that!!Excellent Post!!!!!!!!!
  19. Welcome to geocaching....we found our 100th yesterday and it was just as thrilling as 1-99 and anticipated hundreds more. I highly reccommend joining a local geocachers group and not to be afraid to contact owners of any caches that you are having difficulty finding via thier contact/email link on thier member page. My fellow cachers in my area are more than happy to even give out thier cel numbers so I can call for a lifeline when out in the field. Happy Holidays and Happy Caching!!!!
  20. I remember my first hide, waiting for someone to find it was like waiting for your first born to arrive. It's great that you want to recognize the first to find recipient, your heart is in the right place. I recognize first to finds on my puzzle caches with a virtual merit badge on the cache page below the listing. Be creative, Have fun and above all....Keep hiding those caches!!!
  21. It's a good idea, i wish i had one for searching through caches hidden in forest areas during fall. Good job, sleep well, and cache on!!!
  22. Check out costco.com they have the Explorist 500LE with the Topo-Map Software for $179.00 including shipping. Thats the best value online for an Explorist.
  23. I have the 210 and I regret not getting the bundle, when I purchased mine, it cost $80.00 more. For $34.00 more you can't go wrong. The 210 is great, i have no complaints about it!!!
