  1. Mag 315 and map 330. Mostly the 330 now and Red is learning the 315.
  2. Mag. 315 and Mag. Map 330. Red is learning the 315. Now I get to say "there it is" as she is reading the screen.
  3. Geo Leo: I'll bite. I have no problem with them logging virtuals in cyberspace. I choose not to and they do. So flipping what. If that is all the more effort they want to put into learning something that somebody else thinks is worth learning, who losses the most? If the cache owner is not gripping and has not establised some sort of control key word or phrase that needs submitted in order to log a cache, then they must not be too worried about whom from where logs in as a find. Along the same line, is it sporting to go online to find out any information other then what the cacher puts in the report? I have solved a couple puzzle caches involving dates without going to the location for the dates. No, They where not virtual caches and yes there was a log book to sign. But I did most of the cache from my butt in front of the computer. If this is a problem with the cache owners, why not put out a micro cache having within it some sort of information that can not be found on the web? If not a micro cache with data, a close by fire hydrant number or power pole number, how many doors in the business across the street, what kind of tree growing near by, how many picnic tables in a 100 foot radius, what color is it. Man, there must be a thousand ways to control a "found it" posting. In the end, it all comes down to what the cache owner wants to accept. Valid find or deleted log. And yes, in my opinion, you did accuse them of cheating, just not in so few words. Have you e-mailed them and asked how they do so many in such a short time? Maybe they are mega rich and have a heli and buzz around and just drop in from a zipline. If they are and do, Hell, I will invite them over for dinner and learn how they got the money and they can have all the caches they want. Rant # 2 over. Preparing for # 3 if needed
  4. Let's see. I am a native born and raised Oregonian. So is my Wife. So are our three kids. So are our two grandbabies. My Mother is a third generation Oregonian. My Father is from Montana, which as far as I can tell is close enough or just as good. As for the wet side, I was born and raised over there. It seems as I had a chocker or strawline in my hands forever. Trees, Rain, Shrubs, Banananananananan Slugs, cold, dank, moldy. Seems to me like the right combibation to keep people out or drive them away after a while. We now have a house on the dry side. Hot, windy, cold, dry, windy. People moving all the time. After a hard winter over here, we see lots of u-hauls and ryder trucks heading, well bluntly, out. As a parting shot, It was called the Oregon Trail for a reason. Oregon. Those of lesser fortitude went South to avoid the work of dealing with the weather. You can not change the weather but you can adapt, or leave. Next.
  5. What is the big deal about finding 600 plus caches? Who are they cheating if they have not really found them all, and if they have, more power to them. Myself, I think it would be real easy to find that many or more, if the caches are there and if you have the time to go get them. Red and I went down to Klamath Falls Oregon - 90 miles from home to the first find, a half mile uphill hike - and found 30 in two days without really trying very hard. If we had waited until the snow was gone, we would have had another 20 + finds. Those where not all drive bys or virtuals either. The virtuals we found where in cemetaries and Red and I both got out and read tombstones, another of our hobbies. We went on several multi stage hunts, a couple of long hikes and sleep in and did not get out until after 9:00am either day. We just sat down a week ahead of time and planned out our route, checked the web before leaving to look for archived caches in case. Big flipping deal. I am sure that Mopar or any of the rest of you who have large volumes of caches in your area could sit down and plan a cache raid and get 50 plus caches in a day. Bill Gates has more money then you, are you going to accuse him of cheating also? Get a life people. Per Mopar, rant off.
  6. Well then let me throw a couple ideas out about this off shoot topic. Right now, the USFS timber sales are in deficit spending for one reason. Not because of the road issue. Not because of the Canadian wood selling here subsidized by the Canadian Government. Right now, the USFS is just the largest landscape contractor out there. With no timber to sale that has any value, the timber sales they are selling are just forest cleanup. Your tax dollars will have to go into these sales because they will not bring enough dollars back to pay for themselves. Just think of the USFS right now as the local landscaper having to come in an clean up an overgrown park. Would you expect your landscaper to have to make his income from what he could sell your lawn clippings for? No, you have to pay him to do the work. That is why the trail fees should be over $100.00 per person per season. Or more. Much more. How much do you or did you pay to go to a movie lately? Are not your National Forest worth at least that much per person per trip? Look at how your property tax bill has went up over the last 20 years. Timber dollars used to cover the school cost. Now, with out those dollars and the influx of Tech jobs - which have went into the tank since 911 and we the blue collar worker now have to bankroll them - and losing a lot of the forest and farm related jobs, everone's taxe's have had to go up just to cover the school's we had. Throw in all the new people and the need for the new schools and that money has to come from somewhere. Enough rant. Suck it up and realize we are all part of the problem and therefore we all have to be part of the solution.
  7. My two cents worth would be that a MIA cache would be allowed five (five) not founds or four (4) weeks before automaticly archived. Cache owners not keeping track any closer then that to their caches are not being responsible or accountable to this game. A black eye is still a black eye no matter how we get it.

  9. joedohn : I just might have a "copy" of that page "somewhere" if you wuld like it posted for all to view. If you ever get to my " One Way " cache, you just might think it looks like something from your past.
  10. Well I had thought that I must be one of those geohogs, with around 40 first finds out of 150 total that pretty much fits the bill. But, somebody has to "check" those posted cords and I would hate for you all to have a long drive for nothing so I must be doing you guys a favor. Yea, that's it. I am "helping" you log finds by proving that the cache really exist. That means I am not a geohog but a "Coordinates Verification Specialist" !!!!!!! 12. My nickels worth is that as of now, "We" are not "allowed" to cache on NPS land. Period. Until that changes, "we" as a group should and must help Jeremy and his people watch all new cache placements. "We" all look at the newest cache placements and "we" all should be policeing the "newbies" planting their first few caches. I have experince with locating and removing "misplaced" caches and e-mailing Jeremy with cache pages of the newly planted caches in the "wrong" spot. There is a nice little link called "contact us" on the main page and every cache page. Inapproprate cache ? Use the button and let the powers that be know. Couple of key strokes and the owners will be notified and the cache page pulled. Okay, maybe more than a nickles worth but you know how it goes.
  13. Hey Chief : Tell Madjack to read more of the 315 postings to learn more his new toy.
  14. I started with the Mag 315 and the best hint I can give you is : Practice, practice, practice. And just about the time your thinking about how easy this really is, you will start getting brave enough to really learn what all the functions will do. Then things will get interesting : " Now how the heck did I do that ?? " or " Then again, how the heck do I get this off the screen ?? " Just be sure to keep spare batteries in your pocket. ( and a map on how to get home )
  15. I am reposting this due to in the flip flop from there to here, my posting got truncated quit severely. I even threw in a couple extra lines as “interest” Jeremy : As per madphatboy2's question, How about a "team" price and/or account ? As Red was going to drop a check in the mail for this until I talked her into using PayPal, I was wondering will this $30 cover her also, should she choose to cache, under my account but with her name? Now for the "rant" part. As for the price, come on folks, how many of you spend bucks at a gym for exercise? How many of you could cover this cost by not buying one less coffee/latte each month? One less pack of smokes or box of chew ? How much are you spending right now on fuel, paper, upgrading GPSR's, upgrading computers, buying mapping programs, buying laptops or PDA’s, getting different cell phone plans that cover more time or area, getting better hiking gear, better boots, etc, etc, etc. I have wondered when, and not if, this site would HAVE to go pay to play. What did you guys think, Jeremy was related to Bill Gates or something? (are you?) This two tier thing is better then ALL PAY to play. If Jeremy had to crash out due to cost, what would you do then ? Hell, I think he needs to sell stock in this thing to cover cost. If there was enough money in it on his side, he might be able to get GPSR units in bulk and at a discount and pass the saving along to US, the working stiff. Tell me, If this $30 now saved you $$$ down the line on a new unit, would you upgrade or replace what you now have ? Just notice all the changes those manufactures are making due specifically due to our request !!! No hula waves on 315’s now. treasure chest icons. Distance’s in feet, not tenths of miles. Hell folks, we are a power those manufactures have to deal with and respond to, or we walk next door and get something that has what we want. Look at the benefits your getting: Your outside more, Right? Your getting more physical exercise as well as a mental work out, right ? Your exploring place's you would never have went to or even known about, right ? Your learning something everyday, nothing wrong with that, right ? For those of us with spouses, Are you doing more together ? As for different levels of cache's for member level. I could care less whom finds my caches, as long as they play by the rules. If I run into troubles with a cache, It will be due mostly to where I placed it and not who hunted it. If any body is finding "Gnarly Dude" on accident, they are crazier then I am and they deserve what ever they want from the cache. I will hunt caches on an intrigue level verses a "better then yours" attitude no matter which site the are listed at. Put a time limit on a members only cache. After 60 days, it drops down to the public access page or something like that. As for the icon, Myself I could care less if it is there but if the perception of “ I am better than you due to I have an ICON “ thing is what will split this group apart, I vote to leave it off. Anybody want to start a poll on that subject ? I drive around 1,000 miles a week forth and back to work. This game helps to break up the monotony of driving up and down, up and down. Long rant but my nickels worth. One last question. How many of you have made some new life long type friends, in person or just through cahts and e-mails, from this game? Isn't that enough alone for your $30 ? Take it or leave it, and My money is in the mail or on the web or somewhere. logscaler
