  1. WOW!!!! Man that was close! I was just about to stop Friday night and grab a set of those maps - dropping somewhere around $200 for what I wanted. Now I will just have to take the time and money to keep getting theose National Geographic c.d's one state at a time. At least they work in real time between the 330 and laptop and are pinpoint on and I can download easygp's files into the 330 and then to the maps. Thanks for the heads up. You saved me a couple nickels.

  2. Well, it would be nice but I have to head down to Silver Lake Saturday for a Graduation, then I have to go back to work Monday about 350 miles from my house so I have to move my travel trailer Sunday. Then Next weekend, I have to be in Roseburg Saturday all day after driving back from, work, just to turn around and head back up on Sunday again. Anybody want to come drive me around? But it sounds like a kick. One of theses days I will........

  4. Just a heads up for the local Central Oregon cache people.

I talked with the head of the State Parks for the Central Oregon region, and he has certain reservation and request about placing caches in the state parks.

One: None in/on Pilot Butte State Park in Bend, Oregon; icon_frown.gif

Two : None in Fort Rock State Park in Fort Rock, Oregon; icon_frown.gif

Three : Any placed in the “Fee” parks they would like to know about as certain areas are out and they would like some input as for placement; icon_razz.gif

Four : As always, NO DIGGING; icon_smile.gif

Five : La Pine State parks has 9 miles of trails and it is open for caching; icon_biggrin.gif

Six : Cline Falls State Park is open for caching; icon_biggrin.gif

Seven : Undeveloped State Parks grounds are open for caching; icon_biggrin.gif

Eight : Certain areas are monitored and security measures are in place; icon_eek.gif

Nine : Where Park grounds are close to private property, Please indicate a parking spot so as not to have cachers crossing onto private grounds; icon_smile.gif

Ten : Other issues will be dealt with on a one on one basis as the occur; icon_wink.gif

As I have known and dealt with this person on a personal bases for several years about other State Park Lands issues, I know him to be a fair and honest person and he would not ask any of this without valid and just reasons. Please honor his request. icon_biggrin.gif To contact Curtis, call the Oregon State Parks Department at : 1-541-388-6211

As Red and I already have a cache at Fort Rock, I will be archiving it on 05-30-02 and pulling it out 06-01-02. icon_frown.gif Man, that was a good cache. icon_frown.gif But, we will be placing it close by. I have also contacted the person with a cache on Pilot Butte about pulling his. icon_frown.gif

    Thanks for understanding. icon_cool.gif

  6. I use mine to plot my way into and out of new hunting areas; to plot the boundries of hunting units; to plot the rough outline of property boundries. I use the screen on my Map 330 in heavy fog to tell me when the next corner is coming up. Also to double check the milage for work travelmiles; to double check speed; as aconversation piece in a room full of strangers; I use it to find my way into old graveyards for Red to read tombstones. Oh, and Geocaching and geodashing as a side line. In fact, I just got my boss hooked on this game and he went and bought a Mag 315 on sale for $99.99 after $20.00 rebate.

  8. Thanks Jeremy. I am going to assume these caches will have a "Red Flag" hot line straight to you for your attention?

How many complaints before they get the ax?

Are you going to contact the cache owner XXX amount of times in a given time frame before dumping it?

  9. Seattle Seekers Are doing those "Tourist caches" exactly right. I have no problem with that style and all it takes is a little thought and some e-mails.

Are we creating new term's here in the use of "Tourist caches" and " pre-abandoned caches"?

Also, Should the "Tourist Cache" style of caches have to have a second cache owner/babysitter listed as a backup contact ? Maybe somewhere in the body of the cache discription?

As for helping out, just let Red and I know where and how we can help out and we will see what we can do.

  10. What about caches from people just traveling through the area knowing they will never be back? I hit two caches from a person from Oklahoma, one on the Lochsa river and one near Riggens, Idaho that where already scattered about and in chessy little cheap zip-lock plastic boxes. I put them back but I doubt they will last very long. The one on the Lochsa might get hit or looked for often but the one in Riggens area was 15 miles as the crow flys, 24 road miles and a 3 hour round trip off the main road. To me, from my way of thinking, these where pre-abandonded caches. Put out without any intentions of ever coming back for their mantanince or upgrades or removal if needed. I sent the owner an e-mail asking how he was going to maintain them but he has yet to reply. Also, what if the owner responds that they will be checking on the caches in question but never do? Time limits for maintaining/upgrading caches? And, who sets the standard for a valid cache update? Opinions please.

  11. Well, As I and Red seem to travel around a little bit, We would be willing to jump into this mix if you think we might fit in. And as for abandoned caches, I would also like to throw another thought into this arena. What about people who are just traveling through the area - knowing full well that they will not ever be back and they will not be able to maintain a cache - and drop off cheeesy little things and expect the locals to look after the caches? Let me know if I and Red can be of use or help.

  12. 315 hands down any day. I think a mistake your making is choosing based on price. Look at what ypu want to do with the GPSR and what you want it to do for you if other other then just Geocaching. I have a 315 and logged somewhere around 175 finds with it without any troubles. I went to a 330 just because I found a heck of a deal or I would still be using the 315.
