  1. here is a little tale of my experince with the state parks people.

    I have no problem with the way I was treated, but then again, I have been working with these people for about ten years in getting illegal garbage dumps on state and federal grounds cleaned up so I already have a working relationship with a lot of the powers that be. Later, logscaler icon_biggrin.gif

    Also, typing late at night creates the next line

  3. According to my TOPO ! mapping program, there are 16 different places in Oregon Named Cache**** or ****cache scattered from North to South and East to West. And I found two Cache **** together I will be looking at to draw you too. I have one "Cache ****" now and I would like to get more. We had also planned a Cache Mtn. Cache for up on Highway 20 next to HooDoo to be planted the weekend of the tenth but that is now out. Later, logscaler.

    And typing at night brings out the following line ;

  5. are laying all around. It seems as the smoke is shorting out the power lines that travel through the area. As the thick smoke gets near the lines, the lines arch and have been zapping cows. Understandably, the fire fighters are not getting in the way. The power can not be shut down due to the Californian's need it to run their day to day stuff. As for caching in that area, I will have to rethink a confluence cache. As for deer hunting, Well Bufford, I drew a Deer tag for that unit.....

  7. The numbers where in the 315, I was in the area, I went looking and there it was, the cache was still stashed on site so I opened it, traded in and out, signed the logbook and away I went. But, if I had not found the cache and been able to sign the logbook, it would have been a no find. And remember, you can not be just a little bit pregnant so you can not log it because you where close. You either find it or not. icon_razz.gif

  9. Blazes are usually as sever as needed for the moment or the trail being marked. If your going to follow a Section line, most of the old lines had blazes cut through the bark and Cambiam layer so the blaze could be found even 100's of years later, as the blaze to the cambium layer will create a " Cats face " scar that will overgrow through the years. If you know the line, you will be able to find the cat face and cut the wood back and find the old blaze. On a lot of the old lines, the surveyer would carve the township, range, section number and direction into the wood exposed by the blaze and you will still be able to find these blazes and numbers once and a while. As your wandering through the woods, if you find an old line, sometimes you will see where the limbs of the trees where pruned back so as the line could be run and the chain crew could see each other as they worked out the lines. Most of the benchmarks will be on or very near section lines as the benchmarks where used for marking property boundries, section lines and section corners. These days, most blazes are not made to last a long time due to the nature of running the lines, areial photos, maps, GPS, etcetc. Most of theses lines are now run and are marked with paint or ribbon with a little pruning to clean out the brush for straight lines. More than you wanted to know, but consider how much you paid for it

  10. just a nature hike. If I go deer hunting but do not bag a critter, I do not get steaks. Find "it" or known parts of "it" or, post a "not found" or a "note" and describe your search. If your close, the owner has the option of sending you more information to continue or renew your search or the information will let the owner know there is a problem and the cache needs attention. just my nickels worth.

  11. brew !!! gottcha. Love the smell, can not stand the taste. As for that Vanilla croke, eerrr, Coke, Set me out a cup of coffee please.

  12. Pal, I deleted my earlier comments due to on reflection, this is not the forum to discuss this style of topic. This forum is for geocaching, not personal vendettas against the very people who, with their sweat and blood and lives, created the living environment now enjoy by the people of the Northwest region. I sent you an e-mail through your profile on the forum page, which is the same one you sent me through geocaching, and if you did not get it, or the next one, then I will assume your word is good and give you the benefit of doubt and assume something is wrong in the system. You can try and reach me at my on the road e-mail address at if you so choose.

  13. ... do you think you just might tell "the rest of the story" as the saying goes ? You just might want to tell the relationship between the people involved in this story. I have been the "first" finder to a few of those caches myself and understanding the situation, I have no problem with it. Anyway, whats the big deal about being first ? Red and I have around 60 +/- first finds out of 280 +/- finds and there was nothing any better or worse about them then the rest. Just enjoy the hunt, be it your log is 1st, 3rd, or 500. Just sign the book, harass B*****D on the log book page and on the web and know that you are the "Legitimate" first finder

  14. The Badlands area that is being talked about near Bend is not roadless at all. Lots of old roads, I was even on them just before the signs went up a while back. It seems to me that this roadless thing is adjusted as the need fits for those looking to get what - and where - they want. All of Pine Mountain should be Wilderness Area except for the Observatory(sp) and the road from Millican up except that those same enviros who want the Badlands hang glide from there. They even got a spacial raod built fot them to the top. End of rant icon_frown.gif

  16. let me see. I knew a couple of guys who used to shoot them through the ears with .22.250's, There was a person in Sunriver shooting them in the guts with a .22 because they eat her shrubs, I knew a person that popped a few with marbles from a wrist rocket, I know they will jump from bottle rockets popping over their heads, I know they really do not like human hair in nylon bags hanging from shrubs, I know they do not like moth balls scattered on the ground. But as for the BB gun thing, that remains as a to-do for later days. Give it a whirl and let me know how it turns out :

  17. WOW!!!! Man that was close! I was just about to stop Friday night and grab a set of those maps - dropping somewhere around $200 for what I wanted. Now I will just have to take the time and money to keep getting theose National Geographic c.d's one state at a time. At least they work in real time between the 330 and laptop and are pinpoint on and I can download easygp's files into the 330 and then to the maps. Thanks for the heads up. You saved me a couple nickels.
