  1. A new version is available with the mentioned changes. More information about this update can be found here This link also shows 2 videos on 2 of the new features. - Robert
  2. It can read GPX files but the GPX export contains only CG-Codes rather than cache names. Or can I change this in the setup menu? At this moment it can only be set within the Garmin Export (so, when copying the data to the Garmin GPX). I will add this feature to the GPX export too. And yes, that will be a setting. Next version will have this. It would be nice if it is available in the .gdb or GPX export. OK, I will add this setting for the GPX export too. Due to your request here for export to .gdb files, I contacted the developer of WinGDB3. He was willing to provide code that could do this. However, we came to the conclusion that since Mapsource and Basecamp are supporting GPX import, there is not really a need for .gdb export in GAPP. And understanding your reason, why you ask for it, it makes more sense to use the geocache name rather than the geocache code for export to GPX for Mapsource. So, if I add this setting, you should be fine, right? Next version will probably be released in a few days and will have this setting. - Robert
  3. At this moment there is no export to a .gdb file. But many features are created per request, so this feature can be added as well. But then I have a few questions to understand it. Mapsource can read GPX files. This is not sufficient? The goal of GAPP is to have an all in one application. It already has tons of features, including offline maps. Why the need to run Mapsource? Maybe it is even a better idea to implement the features you use in Mapsource in GAPP? I will first try to find the gdb fileformat specification. If that is not successful, I might do the same as GSAK does and use GPSBabel. At this moment this feauture only is supported by the Garmin export using the Garmin communicator. But if you would like it on other places as well, please let me know. - Robert PS: A general note; GAPP supports C# scripts. This means that everyone can extend the application. But if you like to create a functionality that could be usefull to others too, then you can ask for access to the SVN repository. After creating the plugin, we can add it to the default installation so everyone can enjoy it. More information for developers can be found here .
  4. Since the introduction of GAPP, the application has been improved a lot with lots of new features. Now that GAPP is a full featured geocache manager application, actually more than just a geocache manager, it was time to improve the website and add its own English forum to it. Today the new website for GAPP has been launched: http://gapp.globalcaching.eu Feel free to visit the website and join the forum. Needless to say that it is a continuous project and we will keep working on GAPP and its website. - Robert
  8. Do you mean in general? Because if you see the video, you see that you can filter out the finds of all friends (any selected geocacher). - Robert
  9. Correct, only useful for geocaches in The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. This due to the fact that we only have these geocaches + logs in our database. Hence the feature request for geocaching.com. Besides the coverage (whole world), they can do a much better job than I can do.
  10. Hi, I have just added an, I think exciting, feature on Globalcaching.eu. I think it would be great if geocaching.com would have such a feature. What is this feature about? Sometimes you would like to go geocaching with other teams. The adventure is always to pick the geocaches that you would like to do together in advance. But how? You can email or skype, but it is still a hassle. So what if we can present a feature that makes it easy to do this? On Globalcaching.eu I have made such a feature and it is called 'Zoek Samen' (Search Together). What this feature does is showing a map with a preselection of geocaches e.g. arround a certain area). With a shared link (unique URL) people can join this 'room' And for all people within this room, they see the exact same thing, the same google map window, the same caches and a chat. If one selects a geocache, it will be selected at the others too. If the map is changed by one user, it will be changed by the others too. This way you can search through the available geocaches and together determine which one to do. See the demo video on how this works. It would be great if geocaching.com would get something like this, so the whole world can enjoy it. - Robert
  11. Does this mean you will attend the chat session? Because I don't understand your message. If someone has an interesting question, I suppose that person would like to join the chat. Right now, nobody here (on Dutch forum some) will join the chat. So, please, if you would like to join the chat session, post your confirmation here in this thread, so we know what to expect. - Robert
  12. Maybe it is good to explain this a bit. We have organised several chat session now. I don't know exactly, but I think this will be the fith time with Bryan Roth. We also have organised other chat session with Garmin opencaching.com program manager, geocaching.com reviewer and GSAK developer Clyde England. All of these sessions where attended by about 20 to 30 people. A very small group, but for people who are interested and therefore the chat sessions where always a success. With each chat session with Bryan Roth of Groundspeak, the chat became more and more interesting en pleasant. Last month I asked hem if he would be willing to have another chat session and (as always) he agreed. Since I have good contact now with SKAMS due to GAPP (Globalcaching APPlication), I thought why not invite the German geocachers too? So, we placed it this time not only on the Globalcaching.eu forum, but also on the german speaking forums. However, not only the response on the German forums is to a minimum, but also on our own forum. There is no way to tell how many people (if any) are interested in joining the chat. I know that Bryan Roth has no problems with a very small amount of people in the chat, but I thought, that if there is not much interest now, we might try it in half a year or so or when something is going on at Groundspeak. No way, that I want to ignore a small number of people who want to attend the chat session, but this was my motivation to think about pursponing the chat session. So, now my question to you all is: Who is going to attend this chat session. Please confirm this in this thread, so I have a feeling on how many will join. I will ask the same on the Dutch forum. - Robert
  13. I have created a (boring and long) GAPP feature overview movie. Not all features are shown (like shapefiles or other settings), but in general you should get the idea. Maybe the most interesting part is at the end where maps are explained. E.g. the offline map support.

- Robert
  16. A new version of GAPP is available with the option to use MySQL as data storage. see http://application.globalcaching.eu/ for more information. - Robert
  17. A new version has been released today with an exciting feature: Action Builder Now you can graphically create you decision flow and add actions to it. Very easy to create daily used tasks. Example video: Example picture:
  18. GAPP is a free geocache manager application that enables Premium members to browse and maintain geocaches on their local computer. GAPP is Geocaching Live enabled which makes it very easy to update your geocaches by downloading Pocket Queries or downloading geocaches by search criteria right from your application without the need to access geocaching.com. The application is intended for all user types, for the users who never used a geocache manager before to the experienced heavy data users. The application will be directly functional right after installation and can be configured to your needs. Programmers have access to the full source code to write plugins to add functionality or change existing functionality. Just try it and give here your feedback or post feature requests.
Duidelijk dus! - Hemma
  20. I am sorry for writing in English (or at least an attempt of English), but my German writing is even worse than my English. Statistics would be a great thing to have. The problem I am facing now is: What do I do first? Or are other programmers pitching in? Right now, I am working on a chat plugin. People can chat with fellow users and optionally follow each other. With following I mean that if user A is making the geocache GCXYZ active, it will be made active on your side to. This is just an example, but the chat plugin should also be useful for helping people with questions about the application. (Due to lack of documentation ;-) Writing code for generating statistics will take a large amount of time, which I do not have at this moment, because I focus on other stuff first. But I know a statistics plugin is very important to have. Yes, I do hope people discover the C# scripting capabilities (which by the way is part of GAPP due to SKAMS!). I understand that therefore also Documentation should be available. If someone is thinking of writing a Statistics script/plugin, please feel free to contact me and I can provide that person access to the SVN repository (source code). This way it is easy to create/debug plugins/scripts. So, the anwer is yes. Either other programmers will do this or I am, but if I have to do this, then I just don't know when yet and to be honest, it won't be in a short term. - Robert
  21. The data should be saved. You can do this by clicking the menu items : Datei->Speichern (File->Save). If you don't have this menu item, then the plugin for storing the data has failed. On some systems the used SQLite library that what used does not work. Therefore, another plugin has been added to the new release. If you don't have the mentioned menu items, you should switch to the other storage plugin. See http://application.globalcaching.eu/#internal_storage on how to do this. - Robert PS: Due to this problem, the application has been changed to use the 'safe' sqlite library at default, also for other things like GSAK database import en GDAK export.
If you wish, let Groundspeak know by submitting a request for assistance or emailing contact@geocaching.com.
