  1. I too had two Garmin Legend Cx's fail, and I am on my third, a refurb. I never did use the 12 V power adapter, but each of mine failed to start up after a use in the car. Without any real proof, I think the cause of my failures was static electricity when I slide out of the seat and touched the door to close the door. Sometimes I get a real zap. I now ( when I remember) leave the GPSr on the passenger seat, get out of the car, touch the door, get zapped, then reach in and pick up the GPSr. Good luck, Homer_at
  2. I would like to know how to alter the zoom range at which points of interest show up on the screen. I have loaded some local points of interest, resturants, hotels, etc. While using the new POI loader, I selected to alert me when 300 ft away. The alerts work - I get a red message and a beep when I get close. While looking at the screen, the POIs only show up when on the 300 ft zoom range. Not at 500 ft, or 120 ft. I would like them to show up on the 800 ft range. They are round balls. I did not think there was a connection between range for the alert and zoom range but maybe there is. Are they related? I looked at Setup/Map Setup/Points and all the 4 options were set to Auto. I changed them all to 800 ft, but still the POIs only show up at 300 ft. I would appreciate any advice on this, thanks Homer_AT.
  3. Wow! 2ft was that your accuracy or an internal map? I made a point of standing on the sunny side of each tree I marked, because you are really between multiple trees most of the time, to keep straight which one I was marking. And all these measurements were during one hour, with the GPS left on, out in the open with good signal, using WAAS. The 2 ft was the distance to waypoint displayed when I thought I was standing in the same place as when the waypoint was recorded. Homer_AT
  4. We went to one of those Christmas Tree farms where you look over the field and cut your own. I brought my GPS for the road trip. I had it in my pocket and we started walking and looking. Of course you spot some that seem reasonable, but you need to look over the whole stock so that you don't miss the best one. But it is hard to keep track of the special ones. We found a good one, and my wife said let's remember this one and look some more. So I just pulled out my Garmin Etrex Legend Cx and marked a waypoint. We marked 5 trees in all , perhaps 200 yards apart, then I selected Find Waypoint and we walked back to each and ranked them again - and then picked the one my son like the best. I got back to within 2 ft of each. It's good for the GPS toy to aid the wife from time to time. Homer-AT
  5. I had the same experience with my 5 week old Legend Cx. Would not come on, either with batteries or plugged into the USb port. I called Garmin, and that has been a good experience. I had hoped that some magical combo of key presses would bring it back to life, but they said that was not possible. I mailed it in on a Saturday and got a new one back a little more than one week later. They included a note that said a faulty automoble power adaptor was to blame, and that I was to discard the current one and use the new one they included, but I don't have a car adaptor and have not used one. the last time mine worked was downloading tracks plugged into the PC. They also sent me a new usb cable, which I will use. I just now measured the voltage on the USB port on my PC, wondering if it was too high for some reason, and it read 4.8 V. I understand normal USB voltage is 5 V and the minimum acceptable is 4.4. My USB cable was hard to plug into and remove from the Cx. I am a little afraid to plug the new GPS into the PC, but must just go ahead and proceed since downloading/uploading waypoints, etc is necessary. BTW, the firmware version on this new Legend Cx is 2.5. I will upgrade to 2.6 again soon. Good luck Homer_AT
