  1. Living in Normal for the last 20 years or so.
  2. Weldon Springs sounds good to me. My wife and I go there almost every week anyway to walk. As mentioned, lets wait till its a little cooler.
  3. Just wondering what happened to this club. Is this club no longer around and if so is anyone interested in forming a new one for central IL?
  4. How difficult is it to maintain the caches we place? I know some things are out of our control, such as trails that are not kept up, theft, etc., but when the last five logs for a month or two for a cache states that it is wet and needs replaced, can't the hider of the cache take the time to do this? If they don't have the time then the should not hide it in the first place.
  5. Never mind, it seems I was not automatically logged on when I entered the site. Now the boxes are there to download to EasyGPS.
  6. Where is the check box now to download to EasyGPS.
  7. For those who took the time to take their pic while finding the Homer cache at Lake Evergreen I have posted a collage of these photos on the cache page. If you would like an individual shot or a higher resolution collage pic just tell me which one you are (identify yourself somehow by position on the collage, clothes you are wearing, etc) and I will email you one. Just email me with your request.
  8. I have one myself and have had good success with it. It was my first and only gps so far. The menus seem user friendly and I had no problem connecting it to my pc with the data cable. The battery life is good unless you have to use the back light often and that really drains the batteries quickly. The only real con I can think of, is the optional bracket to mount in your car. I seem to have a hard time positioning the gps into the bracket so that it snaps in correctly.
  9. In the Dick's Sporting Goods sunday flier this past weekend, I saw a ad for a combination GRMS radio/GPS all in one unit. Neat idea. Anybody have any experience with one of these.
  10. I contacted Magellan at the end of 2002 about an update to the Mapsend Streets and Destinations software. They informed me at that time it should be available at the end of January. I have not found a link on their webpage for this however. Maybe its been delayed for some reason.
  11. This may have been asked before, if so send me to the appropiate discussion. I did not see it using the search function. Question: Is there a way of having more than one email address in the user's profile? We work as a team and I would like my team member to receive notifications of watch lists etc. automatically. I sometimes forget to relay information on such things.
  12. Now we have two choices, log your visit and watch this cache. How about a way to "not display this cache"? Perhaps we are not interested in this cache for some reason and don't plan on visiting this particular cache in the future. Perhaps it could be hidden from our view and we could then click on "show hidden caches" to display them all as they do now. Any thoughts on this matter?
  13. Here is the latest from the DNR. Looks like end of summer now before they will have a statewide policy. Still no details available. Quoting the park admin email: "Thanks for your inquiry on geocaching at IL state parks. We are currently drafting a statewide policy to cover this new activity in our parks. We have had a few negative experiences with this activity - one where the cache was left in an old ammunition box which frightened some visitors and led to the authorities being called. Others where the cache was left in restricted areas where access was only allowed by persons with a permit. We recognize geocaching as a growing and popular recreational pursuit. Our new policy will probably require the person leaving the cache to check with the site manager first before placing it on the area. We hope to have the policy in place by early this summer."
  14. GPS4fun has a pretty good deal. For $276, you get the gps, carrying case and car adapter. http://www.gps4fun.com/mag_mer_gold.html
  15. I was inquiring about placing a cache in the Makinaw area. I was given the email address of someone that could answer my request. After a few days an individual replied and stated that "they had trouble with a cache placement in the Makinaw area before and could not honor my request at this time." He also stated that the State-wide policy was in the works. I didn't want to ask any him any more questions at the time since it didn't seem that he was a big fan of geocaching. I will contact him again at the end of the month. Hopefully they wont ban it all together. I don't want to post his email here but if someone else wants to inquire and state some of the positive aspects of geocaching to him, email me and I will give you his email address. Off topic. I will place some more Simsons figurines as soon as all of this holiday stuff is finally over. I have Bart and a few more to place.
  16. I have heard that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is developing a state wide policy on Geocaching. But I have no details. Does anyone know any more information. the only thing I was, told was that it should be released by the end of January 2003 or maybe later.
  17. A little off topic, but can someone provide me with some of their cache sites in which cache hunter pictures have been uploaded too. I would like to see some of the results. I placed a camera in my first cache but it is too early to develop the pictures. Also, any preferences on the disposable cameras out there. Are some better than others?
  18. I have been caching for less than a month and find it very enjoyable. This question may have been asked before, but the search function did not direct me to it. Here is my question? How close is too close? I know one cache should not be placed on top of another one, but is there any rule of thumb on this matter? If I find an interesting location within say a few hundred yards of another is that OK? I welcome your replies?
  19. I guess this is as good as place as any to test something.
  20. We are new to the sport and find it very enjoyable. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea how many people spend their weekends looking for cans hidden in the woods I was wondering how many members are registered on this site also. I am sure the popularity of geocaching will only increase as more people are introduced to it.
