  1. Anyone out there managed to place a jungle cache? What are the coords, and who will be FtF!
  2. All cemetery caches should be archived, period. A definite NoNo. However, there's at least one vicar (not CofE) who doesn't have a problem... http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=ad...e2-694f09551cf6 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?ID=48781 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...54-31b48ec85ba8
  3. Check out my cache in the Alps at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=59363 I was there 2 years ago for "Silvester Nacht" . Everyone eats loads of rich meat , cooked in a fondue pot at the table, and drinks vast amounts . At midnight there's a hunt in the snow for the "lost" bottle of champagne. Altitude almost 1 mile high , temperature -15 degrees . Then everyone's up at dawn skiing. This year I won't even be in Scotland...
  4. The British use the Transverse Mercator projection (origin N49, W2, False E 400000, False N -100000, Scale Factor 0.9996012717). Ergo, the "Rest of the World" should use the Universal Transverse Mercator projection. Except for the Swiss...
  5. I'm only an occasional cacher (in part due to being married to a geo-muggle, who prefers to shop ), and I too have placed a vacation cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=59363) , however, in the past five years I have visited the spot 3 times a year on average! I do get to Scotland almost as frequently, however, I only get that far north for the big Whisky Fest at Hogmanay . I will look after these caches on a relatively infrequent basis, and will endeavour to convert my hosts to cachers on 31 December... any contributions to the whisky fund will be greatly appreciated ! 6. Yes, it is a Samuel Smith's pub, and a pint cost £1.22 last time I was there, tho' that was 6 months ago. Maybe it's gone up a little
  7. As noone has suggested a venue yet, how about The Vine at Dunham Massey. It's 5 mins off the M56 at Junc 7, and close to M6, M62 and M60. N53 23.278 W002 24.952 The view's not as good as from Werneth Low, but the beer is considerably better
  8. NattyB: I do believe you're the same person who complained about reading "dog ****" (yes, they are stars this time) in the Hyde's Seek cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=84304 Hypocrite!
  9. What you guys fail to understand is that Travel Bugs are just like children. You do not own your children, you cannot dictate what they will and will not do, in fact they have minds of their own and will go their own way and rebel against your wishes...Life's too short, you've let you TBs go, let them make their own way!
  10. I have 2 Legends and a 12XL The trouble with the "new" models is the Tracbac function doesn't generate waypoints. The old models do... So: use Mapsource to load the track into the GPS12 Get the GPS12 to generate a tracbac. This will give you a route containing max 30 waypoints download from GPS12 into Mapsource and you have your route and waypoints which you can then upload to any Garmin BB
  11. Check out these sites to design your own maps in MapSource format: http://gpsinformation.net/gpsmapper/gpsmapper.htm http://gpsmapper.keenpeople.100megsdns.com/gps_mapper.htm http://www.oziexplorer.com/ BexyBear
  12. 1 minute of latitude = 1852 meters. So, 00° 00.001' Latitude = 6 feet For longitude you need to multiply by the cosine of the latidude, So at 33.5°N, 000° 00.001' = 5 feet at 48°N, 000° 00.001' = 4 feet at 60°N, 000° 00.001' = 3 feet
  13. Wouldn't this be more interesting than by number of times found?
