I got a reply from the coin owner who said he'd been in contact wih the ebay seller, who was looking into the issue, and that he (the seller) got the coins at an auciton. Interesting thing is that the coin is still for sale on ebay. If I had something for sale on ebay and someone even questioned that it might be stolen, even if I didn't believe them or wasn't certain, I'd remove the listing until the question could be resolved. Doesn't leave me with a good impression of the seller...

I had also checked a few of the sellers other items after finding this one and he has several geocoins listed. On some you can't see the tracking numbers, on one it's too hard to read, but on the two coins that are called something like "farewell to pepper", those come up as not yet activated. I don't know if those also belonged to othum, but my hope is that he'll go through that sellers list with a fine tooth-comb and see if maybe some of his other missing coins are in there.

I have a search set up on ebay for "breast cancer geocoin" since there are a few of the older breast cancer geocoins I'm still looking to get one of. Well I got a notification of this listing the other day:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/390406949736?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Went to the listing and it is indeed one that I've only managed to get one of the coins so would love to get a second. but as I looked closer I saw the tracking number showing. So I was going to email the seller and ask them if it was activated or not- the listing doesn't say- because I didn't want to buy an activated coin, and was also going to suggest that whether it was activated or not, they remove the tracking number from the picture. ut I decided I'd just see if it was activated myself. That led me to this page:
http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=pcfbvb
At first I only looked at the logs and saw that it said it was in the hands of the owner, so thought they must be selling their own personal coins, But then when I went back and looked at it a second time, I saw the "current goal", which says it was stolen back in 2008! So I emailed the owner, and didn't contact the ebay seller so as to not alert them- although it looks like he/she is just someone who deals in coins and my guess is got it not knowing it was stolen property. Anyway, this was yesterday morning, as of now the ebay auction is still up, but I did get a response from the coin owner last night, so he's aware of it. I'm hoing this can get the coin back to him- after 4 years, that would be great to see it returned!

Springtime caching means great weather- not the 110 degree plus summer weather we have here in the central valley of California. It means the flowers are blooming and the oranges are growing and the smell in the air is so sweet, I want to bottle it up and save it forever. It also means the days are getting longer, which gives more daylight to find caches.

Some of my favorites. two available are prizes for solving my puzzles
Nice collection- you look to be a fan of jcanyoneer (I may have spelled it wrong). But what does that mean about two being available are prizes for solving your puzzles? Is there another puzzle solving contest somewhere?

What a moving tribute! I love the Rainbow Bridge story- I was given a sheet with it on it by the vet who put my first cat to sleep and I've had it framed in my house ever since. I always share it with anyone who's lost a pet. And to combine that with your obvious love for Kathy is amazing and done in such a beautiful way. I hope to be able to acquire one of the coins, although I don't have anything nearly worthy enough to offer in trade I don't believe.

Very nice gesture for you to make. An unactivated geocoin as an FTF prize several years ago was what got me addicted to coins AND FTFs! I never really thought either before that memorable late night cache run.
-
Oh how I wish this was a coin that someone had marketed. It really does reflect what caching is all about & there are a few dear friends I would have quickly bought one for!!!

Looking forward to the 25th!

I like the 12 sided idea, and I also like the clock. I don't really think it should be Christmas themed, even though that idea is pretty cool, but as someone pointed out, not everyone celebrates Christmas, and I think that even though this takes place in December, it's really independent of the holidays.
-
Cool idea- I like the logo on the door.

drneal, is your seeking list up to date?
i need to look, but like the orginal Kathy's Coin, for those who frequent the geocoin forum, i'll not be too worried about what i already have, and don't have...never too many traders, and i'd like those that want one, to get one
ILYKThere was about to be a flurry of minting new coins just to have something to trade!
-
I'd definitely be interested, probably depends on what the coin ends up looking like.
-
The first one was so unique and made with such love, I can't wait to see the second one!
-
Well darn drneal, maybe I can drum one up for you somewhere!

Love the colors!

I got a 9/11 geocoin as a Chiristmas present, and went to try to find info about it. I came up with this link:
http://shop.geoswag.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/military.html
at geoswag and my coin looks like the: Military - 9/11 Ten Year Anniversary AS (Non-Trackable) *new*
$9.99
But the insert referred me to oakcoins, where I was able to put in the code (that sure looks like the regular tracking code) on the outside edge of the coin, and it gave me an activation code. So I'm confused as to whether this is a trackable geocoin or not?
-
I like it- it'd be really nice to have info in one place about who made the coin, versions available and such. I often have to just google around if I want to find that out. But I also really like the automatic aspects of it. I have SO many different websites that I go and need to "check-in" with, that even though there are a few coins out there I'd really like to find, I've searched on some of the coin database sites but I don't have the time to keep going back to look. So if that info was stored and I could just leave it alone til the site notified me that someone had what I wanted, I'd be all for that!
-
I didn't understand the website- so are they available for sale? I do love the coin, even though I don't know what the writing says, and I'd love to get one! Anyone know if they're available somewhere?

Thanks SO much to the mystery coin giver. I was the lucky recipient of a coin today. Very nicely done coin and what a generous gesture. I don't know who it's from, but whoever you are, you brightened my holiday season!

Haven't seen action on this thread in several days- just wondering if any group decision has been made about whether there'll be one coin or two? Event coin versus Feb 29th/calendar completiong general coin? Thoughts? Ideas?
-
I wonder if maybe not having the word "done" on the calendar side would make it seem like a more applicable coin to everyone? It seems like there are clearly two different needs or wants- a coin for an event on Feb 29th and also a coin for having cached every day of the year. So I wonder if that word was gone if it wouldn't achieve both? For the event, the date of Feb 29th would be highlighted, and for people trying to cover their caching calendar, whether they went to an event on Feb 29th or not, it'd highlight that they cached all 366 days fo the year, including the elusive Feb 29th?

We are looking at it this way.
Our perception is this does not fall into the "Multi-Event" category but if the usual crew runs an event that day it would not hurt to advertise that is happening in multiple states/countries on your cache page.
1) An event like this may only be published every 4 years... no guarantee it will happen on the next leap year!
2) Educating all the new cachers that are popping up about the grid would be our focus. (45% of our 11-11-11 attendees were new cachers within the last year)
3) Telling them they have the hardest day logged after attending the event
4) An LE 2012 coin will be available to either complete your grid or launch your challenge for the next 4 years
We don't expect a huge attendance on a Wed night (good luck if your running a day event) in Feb so an investment in a 100+ multi-event coins really does not fit the bill.
We really like NOSNOWS design.... geez a frog leaping over a frog...top that!!!! We like the idea that FEB 29 should be highlighted in some manor.
There is minor customization available according to the email we got back but we really like what was posted. If we have to customize it won't be far off
Just typing outloud.... Comments?
I agree. At my 11-11-11 event the other night I talked a little about the interest in an event and a coin that day and we probably had a similar percentage of newbites there. It was pretty clear that many people hadn't even thought about the difficulty in covering Feb 29th and that next year will be an opportunity they shouldn't pass up.
Here's one thing I'm planning to do to help with the issue of investment in coins: Since my family lives in the Fredericksburg VA area and are very active cachers, and I live in the Fresno area of CA, we're actually going to try to do a "Fresno/Fredericksburg" custom colors selection. I'll do an event here and my parents will do one there but this way we only each have to worry about selling 25 coins instead of the minimum 50. I did a poll at the 11-11-11 event to see who was interested in a coin and basically about 18 coins were wanted. Now granted everyone in the community wasn't there the other night, but we had a good turnout of about 40 or so people, and I'll expect less to come on a Wed night, though there may be some different ones. I had 14 of the 11-11-11 coins and did sell them all, but just exactly- no one wanted one that didn't get one. So I didn't want to risk me shelling out money for 50 coins and maybe ending up with 25 or so left. I'm happy with sharing colors with one other city, especially since there's a connection there- I've met a lot of the cachers in that area during travels and my mom has met quite a few of the local cachers here during visits.
So I thought I'd share that idea, other people may want to copy it- feel free to do so!

Love the artwork and would like to get a couple but I don't think it lends itself to picking colors combinations. I use red, orange, yellow and black.
Guess I could make the frogs red and orange. If I was to get involved I would like to be able to pick a few colors for the calendar side.
Agreed. The coin is cute and suitable for the day but just isn't very customizable.

I am not sure a coin has to be customizable, for most of the attendees they like what they can take home from an event. I found out there are lots of cachers trying to fill all the days in my area so it fits fine. It could also be conceived as a day to kick off trying to get all the days in a year!
That's true--didn't think of it that way. I have no idea how many in this area are working on it since there doesn't seem to be a challenge cache that I have found so far.
I think there's such a challenge cache in my state, but for me, it's more wanting to fill in that calendar on my stats that show up in my profile. And that way if I am near such a challenge cache in any state, I'd be able to do it! So I think people who may not be actively trying to be able to grab a specific calendar cache are still interested in completing their calendars.

Thought I'd share this with people on the board. I have some geocoins that are activated that I like to take to events for people to discover. I wanted something easily portable to keep them in. I bought a nice business card wallet and thought it would work, but of course once the coins were in them, it wouldn't snap closed. So then I started looking at business card wallets that had a row of three slots, but still could see that all the already made ones would have the same problem. So I went to etsy and looked for people who made similar things- homemade business card wallets or ebook covers, out of leather, suede or fabric. I contacted several people to ask if this was something they could make, and decided on one person. I gave her the measurements and so the spine is much wider than a typical business card wallet, in order to allow for the thickness of the coins. I bought business card inserts with three rows and even on the one side, with almost each page having the top row with a coin insert in it, there's still plenty of room. My friend who does the engraving and made the mattes fo the framed coins I showed on here before made these little holders out of the picture frame matting as well, to provide support to the coins and to ahve the tracking numbers clearly visible so people don't have to pull the coins out. I'm very pleased with how it came out!
