  1. Sharing my favorite breast cancer image on this thread:
  2. Had to share my favorite breast cancer image on this thread as well:
  3. Thanks for getting the picture onto the thread opalsns- I'm still kind of handicapped when it comes to doing stuff like that!
  4. Just wanted to update everyone and let you know that the ETA for these geocoins is about two weeks. The current Yemon Yime breast cancer geocoin has caused quite a stir (yep, I ordered a few myself!) and is clearly going to generate a nice donation for a breast cancer charity, and I hope that my breast cancer coin will do the same. I'm pleased to see that so many geocachers are passionate about this cause and willing to support efforts to raise awareness and fund raising.
  5. Got mine yesterday and they do look great! Glad the remint is also now available!
  6. I was lucky enough to get letter number 011. Obviously a lot of time, as well as expense (in the nice paper, envelopes pre-printed with "Mr. Gray" in the return address area) went into this, so I was convinced when I saw that. Can't wait to see the final outcome.
  7. Just trying to get MORE notifications in your inbox? I had read the thread that generated so many email notices to you both, and your comments here prompted me to go back to it and boy was I glad I hadn't subscribed to that one!
  8. I had thought about that and may start using that for some threads. I'm more active on the geocoin forum and there are times that I do want those notices to come asap, like if a coin is going on sale and I don't want to miss out on something, but I may start using that daily option for threads that I want to stay on top of but aren't that time critical.
  9. I hope this forum is an OK place to post this- I don't see a forum related specifically to the forum website, but I have a question about the forums. I often mark threads to get instant email notifications when I want to follow them. Whenever I get the emails, it always tells me that so-and-so has replied to a thread I'm watching, but that: There may be more replies to this topic, but only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox. (Copied and pasted from one such email) Yet before I can go back and visit the boards, I may get ten such emails if it's a hot topic, all telling me that there's been a reply to that thread. So the very thing that I'm being told they want to achieve- to limit the amount of mail sent to my inbox- is happening- my inbox is getting cluttered with so many notifications that at times I want to just unsubscribe from everything. One notification is certainly enough and can stay in my inbox as a reminder to go back and check the site. Do other people get mulitple notifications? Am I doing something wrong when I sign up for the notifications or does anyone know how to stop this deluge of emails? Thanks so much.
  10. Well this thread made me reminisce about the extent I went to to find GCV56D- which cost me a $60 taxi ride away from the Denver airport, trying to get CO on my map, when I was passing through. So that's always an option... Really funny thing, that I only realized tonight, as I went to try to find out WHICH cache in CO I paid so much to find, was that when I found this one in mid-2008, I had already logged four CO caches in June of 2007! dadgum I wish I'd actually put a map on my profile page back in 2008, rather than going on memory alone, I'd have saved myself the $60 and just sat at the airport. And dadgum, am I embarassed to admit that I am only now realizing this, over two years later! Good thing I can laugh at myself, and good thing it's been over two years so the $60 is long gone- I think if I'd realized this back then, I would have been stewing about the lost money for awhile, rather than just laughing at myself!
  11. Not trying to highjack this thread which is about the coins, but I do want to also emphasize the importance of those self-exams. In my own experience, I felt a lump and even the diagnostic mammogram (which is more focused and should detect things that a screening mammogram might not) couldn't see the lump. That really weakened my confidence in mammograms, because my own cancer wouldn't have been detected from a screening mammogram and in fact hadn't been detected when I'd had a screening mammogram only a few months before (and it's not that it developed after that mammogram, because I've since learned that with a tumor the size of mine, the cancer was probably there for about 8 years prior to the diagnosis- kind of like diabetes, there are tons of people walking around with the condition- diabetes or breast cancer- and not even aware of it... yet). I do think mammograms are still important. I think the combination of self-exams and mammograms together hopefully will allow women (or men) to find anything that might be there lurking... Wow, look at all the awareness this coin has already created!
  12. I don't think I've ever found myself so obsessively checking my email & hoping to see a paypal invoice!
  13. I did see that other topic & I admit I didn't read through that whole thread so maybe my issue was addressed there, but it seemed to be a more general thread asking for an explanation about the souvenirs, which I didn't need- I understand what they are & how they work & I was asking something of a different question. But I do apologize if people think I wasted forum space by duplicating something- that was not my intention. I do think sometimes that the impersonal nature of forums like this results in comments thhat sometimes come across as more critical than I imagine someone might sound if they were speaking to a real person standing in front of them & maybe I'm overly sensitive so all I can say is I apologize for the duplication.
  14. I would say that making a bogus log just to get the souvenir show's bad form. The Idea is to visit the cache to recive the little bonus. But there are some that think its all about the numbers.... Oh I agree who heartedly with that- maybe I didn't express myself clearly... I TOTALLY agree that you shouldn't log caches that you didn't visit just to get a souvenir, but I was wondering, since I did visit HQ and the original stash, is there a souvenir that I should have? (looks like niraD has maybe provided me with the answer to that question- thanks!) I'm also interested in a list, so that if I was traveling to an area, I might want to check out a cache if it does give me a souvenir. So I'm just wondering if there is a database of the souvenirs that are available.
  15. I saw the recent post about how to collect souvenirs by logging various caches and then deleting logs, which I definitely don't agree with, but out of curiousity, I clciked on a few of the links in that post just to see where you could get souvenirs from and was surprised to see that the links took you to a few places I have logged, like the original stash and HQ. But I never earned a souvenir from those logs. So was that list bogus as well? Is there anywhere, like the lists that display all geocoins, where one can see what caches do earn you a souvenir?
  16. What a beautiful coin. I sure hope there are some available to be bought after today's event, and so if you're taking reservations, sign me up for 2 (if that's the limit), or five if it's not (that way I could also share one with my mom and sister who've been a huge support to me the past year as I dealt with this, and who are also very active cachers, though not active on these forums). As many people on this forum know, this is obviously something very close to my heart, after I was diagnosed with breast cancer less than a year ago, at only 42 years old. That's what prompted the development of the Breast Cancer Angel geocoin, and I'm in favor of any geocoins that help support breat cancer charities. As I got educated about cancer, I learned that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. One in eight!!! What a high statistic! I was in shock when I learned that. Think of how many women you know and care about and divide that number by 8, and that's a lot of people that you care about who're going to be affected by this. Of course Komen is the foremost breast cancer charity, but there are also other great ones out there, so I'm sure that since it sounds like you've done the research, whatever charity you donate to, it'll be a great thing. The charities that help out with medical expenses are definitely needed, as I was absolutely SHOCKED at how much it cost me to "have" breast cancer, despite having good health insurance; the charities that provide prevention and education are also great, and help contribute to earlier detection so that the impact is not as severe. I was able to get some assistance through the American Cancer Society with gas cards to help defray the costs of six weeks of daily treatment visits to the Cancer Center, which was sure a big help, so there are even organizations like that that aren't breast cancer specific that help breast cancer patients. Thanks for developing the coin and supporting a good cause!
  17. Bumping this up to let people know that I think an order is going to be placed on Monday- the order page doesn't say this but I wanted to be sure everyone knew so that you get your reservation placed this weekend if you want to order any of these coins.
  18. Well I'm happy to report that even though it looked like it wasn't going to happen, things did end up working out for this coin to be minted. It's now available for reservations at: http://www.usageocoins.com/geocoins.htm There are pictures of the sample coins shown on this page as well. Sorry for the back and forth about whether it was going to get done or not, but glad to report that it's a go now!
  19. Thanks so much everyone! I've redone my setup and hopefully now will be even more thrilled about having the navigation software. I knew there'd be people here who would know right away how to help.

  21. I was recently given a gift of the city navigation software for my Garmin 60CSx. I like it a lot for getting me to caches, but there are times I'd like to rip the micro SD card out once I get close to GZ. This afternoon I was going to a cache that was behind a convoluted shopping center. I got to where I figured GZ was and in fact saw where I surmised the cache to be and where it turned out to be. But my GPS was still trying to give me driving directions to it. I could never get the little checkered flag to show up, which then would allow me to go to the compass page, which is how I navigate to find the cache. It seems like I should be able to just turn off the navigation feature, and I did find such a selection under the menu options, but if I do that, then it takes away the compass that I want to use to get me that last distance to the actual cache. Is there a way to select when the turn-by-turn directions are on? A friend of mine has two GPSs and uses one for the directions to get to the cache and then uses one that doesn't have the mapping software on it to find the cache. I don't own two, so don't have that luxury, but now I'm guessing this is exactly why he does this...
  22. ThePetersTrio had asked me to post a picture of the geocoin display stand that my friend made for me, so here it is. It's a similar design to many of the coin displays, but done in a size to fit the shelves on my specific curio cabinet and painted to my tastes!
  23. Well it's with a very heavy heart, and with many tears, that I post this update to this thread. I wrote a reply many times over the past week and then just could never bring myself to actually make a post, but I know that I need to resolve this. I know that many people are watching the thread and also several people had privately asked me to update them by email about the status of my coin, which I'll be doing individually as well. When I've been asked recently about what was happening with it, I've had to reply "I don't know". After a couple of months of that vague reply, I've had to finally conclude that the coin isn't going to come to fruition. I think it was a great design and a great concept, and I wish there was a way to see it completed, but it just doesn't look like that's in the cards...
  24. Thanks to Toojin, hopefully I've gotten pictures uploaded now!
  25. Wow! I've never gotten a mystery coin before, so I was sure surprised to get this in today's mail. At first I thought maybe my sister sent me something, since she'll sometimes mail me stuff and put my addy as both the "from" and the "to" address, but when I opened it up, it was one of these mystery coins! It's beautiful and so appreciated! And coincidentally, just this morning I was finishing up putting my new coin stand that a friend made me into my curio cabinet. There were still a few spots left, so this coin got a place of honor right in front. I've never managed to upload photos before to these forums but I'm going to see if this works, so people can see a close-up of the coin in the display stand and then a shot of the entire display stand. Thanks again to the mystery giver! (Editing in: OK, I tried and tried to upload photos after putting them on flikr but can't seem to do it, I seem to be technologically challenged. Anyone know where any sort of guide to uploading photos on these forums is? I googled it and came up with nothing...)
