  1. Don't forget to post an owners maintenance log to remove the needs maintenance icon, visitors may well ignore it if they think it has a problem.
  2. The 4X4 was just parked next to the track. It was in good condition and clean and tidy, it had orange lights on the top and a winch on the front and a much bigger one in the back. We looked at it as we walked past but due to its conditon assumed it belong to mountain rescue or similar as it did not look like it had been abandoned and was parked "sensibly" to one side of the path.
  3. Make sure you are using the right format. It should be set to minutes: in the format d° m.m' so the coordinates will look something like N52° 12.345 W001° 22.345 (made up location) if you enter these digits in the wrong format ie degrees it will put you a good few miles off. I tried entering where I am in the wrong format and it was around 5 miles away so it appears to me you are in Degrees which is shown as d.d°.
  4. I staggered up there on Sunday and saw it. We assumed it was for the mountain rescue so we did not even take a photo.
  5. If I see the mission on a trackable in the cache and can not help I will often leave it but sometimes the item may have been in there for a while so I take them anyway and hopefully drop in a busier cache, even if its the wrong way so at least it gets going again. There are certainly occasions when I have taken them also when I did not read the attached mission as there were muggles approaching or it was throwing it down so I grabbed it and closed the cache quickly. If the mission is not attached and I do not read it until I am online later, then there is not a lot I can do. Which really is how all trackables are these days, you stick a wish on them but at the end of the day it is a wish so what will be will be. Just hope it gets some interesting pictures along the way. You are at the mercy of cachers and can just wish it eventually arrives where you want it to be, one of my coins that wanted to stay in England was found in a cache in Switzerland after going missing I am just happy it has reappeared and travelling around again.
  6. Using IE8 no issues with GC.com its purely on the challenges I click on the "find My Location" link nothing happens. It finds the near ones if I enter my post code etc, but nothing through the link.
  7. I agree, why can I not just click on my location? Clicking on the "find my location" link does nothing for me. When will challenges be made available to those of us who use GPSr's rather than smart phones, via a PQ type system?
  8. I find this is normally down to newbies who do not realise what a trackable is, you could drop them a nice email explaining how to log them? I know I have in the past and normally they log the item out and then drop it off in the future so everyone is happy.
  9. You can log them, if your able the counter will catch up later.
  10. According to the pocketgpsworld.com site yes it will accept normal Tomtom OV2 files and you can set up proximity warnings etc. You will need to save the OV2 and BMP file to the same folder as the one holding your map data, but there will be exisiting OV2 files on the SD card so look for them and save these ones in the same folder.
  11. There are updates planned for them next week and then ongoing so hopefully PQ's and putting them on the maps will all follow in time.
  12. I only watched the video after this post, I had seen some of the videos a while back but had forgotten about them until this. I might come and take a look at the cache so I guess your post did raise its profile to me, is self advertising allowed I have not visited yet but from the video it did not look to be a 5/5 to me, as all you need is a torch.
  13. Does clicking "back" on your browser not work? A while ago TerraCaching was always dreadfully slow with lots of timeouts, but I didn't ever actually lose anything. Rgds, Andy No it does not when you click back your log is blank had a couple of these last night, so before I gave up totally I copied each log before hitting the button.
  14. I was holding back on the Beta version but maybe I should give it a go...
  15. It does seem odd that I can run the GC.com app through my Ipod and the app works at full speed then try on the website and that grinds to a halt. Maybe is Groundspeaks aim to just focus on those with smartphones who do not even have to write a log, but thats a whole other thread (or 50.) It does seem that the cachers who use GPSr's are being given the second rate service.
  16. And now it has died, getting Server is too busy screen now. I should have bought an Iphone and logged blank find logs from the field rather than trying to write something decent from home.
  17. Our hit rate is a little over 95% (as our DNF's are around 4.8%) The DNF's range from ones where muggles were in the area through to blinding obvious caches right in front of us normally then found by five or six newbies straight after us
  18. I normally like the updates but really wonder if anyone tests or looks at what is planned:blink: Found dates have gone, but we are told roughly when someone found a cache, very strange! Avatars on cache pages, why waste the space on the cache page, apply extra work for the servers sending them to me coupled with a slow down on my poor old PC. And Challenges why were these not put on geocachingchallenges.com and an optional link into a cachers GC profile with a link to the challenges, they wanted to complete, I really do not see what these have to do with caching these seem to be locationless caches, which served their purpose all those years ago, but should they really be on here?
  19. Hi and welcome. To begin with, pick traditional caches with fairly low difficulty and terrain settings, the higher they get the hard the cache will be to find and get to, I would suggest aim look for ones up to a maximum of maybe a 2/2. Look for larger caches rather than a micro (film pot or smaller) and go for ones that it seems most people are finding without issues. Taking it gently will enable you to hone your skills and ensure you do find most of what you look for. We all fail to find caches, personally we seem very good at missing the easiest ones but don't give up, if you can not find it post a DNF log and then come back a month or two in the future and you might walk straight upto it, or there again
  20. I found a cache in a park in Stoke on Trent back in May, the previous entry to mine was by someone completing their community service cleaning up, their comments were fine and they put the cache back.
  21. I use a dedicated email address and always send my email address I never have any issues with spam and nothing untoward. I have replied to people in the past who witheld their email address and not realised, sometimes I spot them and resend but I guess not always. Live life on the edge and send your email address
  22. I would recommend Steam Bricks,a great virtual, kids of all ages will like this one
  23. Thanks for the update, good to see you are sorted.
  24. There was a recent announcement on this one saying the Jeremy would make an announcement at the GS Bloc Party in August. I am sure someone will find the link and the date for it, but this one is moving forward.
  25. While this is no use to the OP, it is a timely reminder to make a back up copy of your GPS software. Updates etc are fine but many of the main files are not part of it so you will not be able to download them again. Good luck davelou in sorting your issue, I would also suggest a master reset.
