  1. We solve all our own puzzles, so leave some as we have no idea! A cacher locally sets some based on electronics so they get left and are slowly building nearer the top of our nearest unfound listing. But I am slowly eliminating possible hiding places from one of his using other cacher's pictures and logs, plus the clue and where footpaths go from the parking coordinates, only three more bridges to check along 3 miles of a remote canal At times we would like a clue but playing the game our way we will get to them one day! I am sure if I asked the owner he may give us a clue but we will have a good go first. Our daughter has her own account so she tags along! I have asked one cache setter if she could log it as she had not done all the stages and he was fine edit to add last bit on
  2. No I am just a nutter!!! It was good timing my work takes me all over that day I was in my office in Macclesfield so local for me although I was a bit sweaty b y the time I got to work. Good job I have my own office PS I was the one who found Claret Zip's recent cache.
  3. The site has been struggling today. Its working at the moment but not properly, bits are missing or not working.
  4. Why not just log a DNF this will alert snaik!
  5. Just being the first there is good enough for us.
  6. Just one thing to watch for when you drive to a cache, satnavs will normally take you to the part of the road nearest to the cache, it makes no allowance for rivers or lakes that are in the way, nor that it wants you to stop on the shoulder of the motorway. So do check where it is taking you!
  7. I have found the best way when using a Tomtom is to get to GZ then cover it up, I adopt a strange hunched up position to loose the satellite signals. Then when it sorts it self out again you know exactly where you are! Normally in the middle of no where looking for a plastic box in the rain!
  8. In the preview screen to the left of each section written in bold there is an arrow if it is pointing to the right click on it so it points down, any help? Just browsing there seems to be a forum on this have a look here: print preview thread Edit to add link
  9. We have not received some recently, we would have raced you to Gathering wind but never got the notification email, so another FTF to cats-eyes. Edit for typo.
  10. Hi Sleepless42, To far for me but is it worth posting a note on each cache in case someone local sees your note and can adopt; not everyone comes on here.
  11. In a word yes! But there are problems with it, I have a Tomtom One so can not speak for other makes. It is worth bearing in mind car satnavs are not waterproof do not have a great battery life and are designed for cars so are not as rugged, nor as easy to hold. The maps in satnavs are stripped down so not all the detail is present the programming snaps you onto a road so if you are looking for caches near to roads it is a pain, as the Satnav will keep placing you on a road when you are not on it. Away from roads its fine. You can enter long and lats in a Tomtom. I download all unfound caches via POIedit from GCUK, and then type in the coords for stages of a multi or the answer to a puzzle, and save these as a seperate POI file. The refresh rate is not great so you can appear to be some distance from the cache and when it then refreshes you have walked past. With a GPS you have an arrow pointing where the cache is, its a bit more hit and miss with satnav. Saying that we found our first 50-100 caches with just a Tomtom and I still use it from time to time. My Tomtom keeps the signal better than my Vista so its much rare it looses its signal in trees but it you are moving slowly or stand still it can then swing you around so the cache appears to be behind you, so sometimes I have walked past a cache and had to walk back. All good fun! Sorry a bit of a ramble I think it makes sense overall!
  12. Never tried to view my PQ's in maps before, thank you for the link I have tried it and its just what I wanted.
  13. Hi I would love to be able to turn off some caches in the map views. Currently it shows with a star if you placed the cache and a smiley if you found it. It would be great to press a button and not show these caches, so I can see the ones I have not found in the map view. Thanks.
  14. Hi After clicking on the printer friendly option, it opens a new window or tab. if you then click on the arrows that point down which are to the left of the bold text saying things like Short Description, Long Description, Map, etc. The arrow then points to the right and the map or description etc is hidden. Hope that helps
  15. Yeah - I have mine!! It did take about 2 - 3 weeks to arrive though, IIRC Thank you oh and thank you again
  16. Has anyone received a badge yet? I ordered one for me and one for my daughter but not seen anything yet
  17. We do exactly the same with out seven year old daughter, one of us retrieves the coin or TB and the other discovers it. We always move them on as well. We have never just discovered something and left it in a cache. So I would be disappointed if discovered items were then deleted, I have seen items which when being logged have a message on their homepage saying if the coin is discovered at a meeting all logs will be deleted, I can understand that as I think the items should be moving around caches.
  18. Good idea. The map should focus in on the cache you are looking at not start from home again
  19. Many thanks, I am entitled to a bronze now and with some earthcaches in a a few nearby counties I might just be greedy and go straight for silver
  20. Hi being nosey here what are the pins?
  21. Thank you for this tip I never though of it and have now had a tidy up
  22. We only started caching as it was free. If we had to pay from the start I doubt we would be here now, as time has progressed Premium Membership was the natural next step, and I am glad I am helping keep it going. Caching was a natural follow on from walking, and seemed to be a cheap hobby not so sure now what with a PDA, GPS and various subscriptions, just used to use my work issued tomtom and print outs! Oh yes plus the constant look out for bargain swaps and click box special offers! I like it as it is
  23. I tried it today and it worked It still downloads a lot of extra detail from the cache pages but it works
