  1. Blue is for informative elements (ratings, directional symbols, etc.). Normally there is a posting detailing changes, which would have covered this, any idea where it is posted nowadays?
  2. I never seem to have the right photo for the current month but this month is a little easier. I took this picture back in October, across Fernilee Reservoir between Buxton and Stockport when there was no wind in Derbyshire! That is a rarity The cache is this one Fernilee Foxtrot-Glory Hole my log, is here. And my offering:
  3. Hi Virtuals are "grandfathered" meaning that those in existance are all that is left, no new ones will appear, over time these will gradually whitle away until there are virtually none left. Owners are supposed to log in every now and then and verify emails sent to them as many virtuals require you to answer a question whilst others maybe along the lines of take a photo next to an item. Virtuals will be archived if the owner does not log in for a while or the item the virtual was taking you to has gone, or where there are lots of armchair logs and the owner is ignoring them. In addition they can not be transferred to a new owner so if someone looses interest this will acelerate their demise as the owner will stop logging in. Waymarks replaced virtuals see Waymarking.com (also run by Groundspeak) more lately Challenges (not challenge caches which are something else) on the geocaching.com site were rolled out as a means of having a more modern virtual, the latter do not seem to have really caught on . I know there are expections but many cachers do not find lots of challenges or waymarks and no doubt there are lots of waymarkers who do not find caches in any great numbers.
  4. You can create pq's based on premium or none premium caches. But if you loaded two pq's one pm one not to your GPSr then you would not be able to tell the difference unless you can do something in GSAK. Consider many newbies also buy pm membership straightaway. When I drop trackables I always pick caches which are a little harder to get to tucked out of the way and with no obvious tb issues recently. I see good and safe none pm caches and poor vulnerable pm caches.
  5. Hi and welcome. Graculus has created a very informative site, on all aspects of caching. This link on his site, takes you to a nice comparison table of the various units: http://www.follow-th...s.html#whichgps
  6. Welcome. Do you have a smart phone? There are apps if you do have one.
  7. Not sure on the distance from you but there is a series around Carsington water near Ashbourne. There is about 1/2 a mile along lanes the rest is surfaced it is a bit steep in places we did it a few years back with a 6 year old on his bike.
  8. I am guessing it was in the: you oughta see the water cache. Maybe reading the cache page will help
  9. I would email the CO and ask what the issue with your log was, technically speaking you must sign the log to claim the find but you were not able in this case as it was full. I know in the past if I have not had a spare log I have managed to squeeze initals and date in somewhere. It may have been a D4 but had not been replaced properly, so maybe that upset the CO:unsure:
  10. The cache owner, I have posted notes on a few in Manchester but nothing has changed. I guess some will be archived before to long.
  11. I took this screen shot under 4.50, the forum will not let me upload it so here is a link: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/d02d8a1f-049c-42f8-b2f9-59dec4d25201.bmp?rnd=0.009940743
  12. Why I use is it all of the above (well the positive ones ) I use the API to get my closest to home, 4,000 ish to find within 30 miles Store coords for solved puzzles also store notes on specific caches, extra hints/reminders etc. Add parking/trailhead coords for specific caches When planning a walk I can filter and then scan down for any that are getting lots of DNF's or where the D/T stands out, ever been caught out doing a walk of terrains of 1.5 and 2's then suddenly coming across a terrain 4 that is up a tree, it allows you a quick overview of the caches and to be prepared that would require more research. Stats, plus I have found a few travelling caches, GSAK allows me to correct its location to where I actually found it so it does not look like I have been to Texas for a cache that I actually found in Yorkshire (England) (nothing wrong with Texas) . I have a few puzzles near home that I am still to solve, if I was using a PQ I might have to add them to my ignore list, using GSAK I can stop them loading but can still see them on the GC map so I know they are still waiting for me. I upload the file to my GPSr and also to my Tomtom where it shows cache name, type, D/T and the hint, very handy for driveby types. This allows me to decide if a diversion from my route is permissable. I run several databases so can load more than one to the GPSr. I also keep a database with trig points (like a benchmark) so I can maintain that and load to Tomtom/GPSr. I store corrected coords for found caches and load my found and placed caches as POI's onto my GPSr so can revisit them if passing, so can fairly easily have upto 12,000 caches still to find and my 6,000 plus finds with me at all times. I very occasional run PQ's but tend to use them these days to store bookmark lists and allow me to view them on the map. I have been using GSAK for over 5 years now and would struggle without it.
  13. You can always open Safari, go to the Google Map website and see the Google maps that way.
  14. I don't live in Edinburgh, not using Chrome and am seeing this from time to time. Also links in emails not always opening on the first attempt. Logs have not always appeared below caches as well today so I wonder if the servers are struggling?
  15. Hi, If you found the cache and signed the log then the CO should not delete your log unless it is a specific Challenge Cache (where you need to satisfy certain caching criteria to sign - in which case they would delete your log, if you don't.) Just have a quick read of what you wrote in case you gave the solution to a puzzle or exact instruction on how to find a tricky hide. If your log was fine, you were entitled to sign the log and contact with the CO has failed (they might say why they deleted it.) Then you will need to contact Groundspeak not the reviewer, email them from here: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=request I hope this helps.
  16. Simply entering FTF in your log will not be picked up. There is a special way to show that site its an FTF as per the previous post.

  18. I have struggled on caches left them for a month or two then gone back. It does not always help but approaching it totally fresh may just help.
  19. I was under the impression that you can switch the maps to your new unit. I recently bought a new Garmin and was contacted by them checking if I needed to switch any maps to the new one.
  20. Have you checked their profile to see if it is showing, just in case the notification email went astray. I assume they have correctly logged as having attended? If they did log and it is missing their user name or link to their profile will be helpful.
  21. I will check them when out but normally only when I am struggling to find the cache. Just hoping to glean an extra hint or when I need confirmation that I will need to get my feet wet or climb the tree etc.
  22. Ignoring a disabled cache which I will find when it is replaced my next nearest is 5.5 miles from home.
