  1. Ben App appears to be working properly now. The dreaded yellow dot is nowhere to be found this morning. We will be out this weekend and should earn a new souvenir. I'll let you know only if a problem Thanks for fixing this. SE7
  2. Ben I cleared yellow dot from app by viewing souvenirs. So far, a few minutes, no dot reappearing. I'll check it again tomorrow morning and let you know if gone for good. May get a chance to double check it this weekend as we are in a new to us state and will be getting another new souvenir. I'll let you know. SE7
  3. Thanks. I'll stand down till I hear back from U. Thanks PS Just did it again. Dot was back, check souvenirs, dot gone. This was afte I had cleared the cache on app.
  4. Hi Ben et al The yellow dot is back. I did as Ben suggested and viewed my profile/souvenirs and the yellow dot disappeared. I believe I also did that while in the field earlier today and the dot goes away, but only for a while. Then, voila, its back. Just checked my phone now and the dot is back. I check my profile then view souvenirs and it disappears. Just like a bad penny, it comes back.I have closed the app, restarted the phone etc, but it keeps coming back. I just now cleared the cache on the GC app. Not sure I want to clear data as I'm not sure what that would do. Any suggestions? SE7
  5. Thanks Ben. That seems to have worked. I thought I had done that while out in the field as that's how I discovered the new souvenir, but at my age who knows. The dot is gone for now and hopefully that's the end of it. Thanks for all your help. SE7
  6. Thanks Ben and others for responses. I thought the offline list/yellow dot issue was resolved, but today the yellow dot is back on my Android GC app. I was not offline and have no offline lists on the app nor on the GC site. I deleted all my lists back on July 3 when I wrote the above post re the yellow dot and offline lists. I haven no messages, no lists, no drafts, nothing. I was out caching using the app. As far as I can tell the app had internet connection the entire time. No offline lists were used. The only thing that happened today was I acquired a new souvenir. I restarted the phone after I got back, but the dreaded yellow dot is still there. So, why the yellow dot? Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks. SE7
  7. Thanks to all for your replies. I resolved the yellow dot issue, but not sure why it was there. The yellow dot appeared after I had been caching in the brush, offline and then returned to civilization and cell service. There were no drafts on either the app nor on the geo.com site. However, the 4 lists seemed to be out of sync. I was done with the lists, so I deleted them on the GC site and on the app and restarted my phone and the dot is gone. Still not sure exactly what the app was thinking/doing, but its OK now. Thanks again. Maybe GC app has a bug? SE7
  8. OK, so I am going to sound stupid but... Can anyone tell me what the yellow dot on the menu (3 horizontal bars, upper left screen) on the Geocaching app means? It just appeared on my app and I don't recall seeing it before. I have no messages and no drafts. I did do some caching offline and I think my finds and notes updated. So, call my dumb and straighten me out. ;-) I did try to look this up, but the only reference to yellow dots I can find are on the online badge area. What am I missing? Thanks SE7
  9. We cache to get out, hike and see new places. The find is secondary. So, we don't particularly like micros/nanos. And we really hate when they are listed as small as we also like TBs and coins We probably aren't "pure" cachers, but we enjoy what we do. Isn't it great that there is variety for everyone?
  10. Thanks for the link to great post. Geocaching is a fun way to get out and see areas/nature/beauty that we would never know existed. In short, its not my wife, its not my life. Just like the rest of life there are always differences of opinion and those who like to argue and have the need to prove they are "right". Great entertainment though.
  11. Perhaps the definition changes based on the reason one caches. We cache for the experience of being out in nature. Since we travel full time, caching in an area takes us to places we wouldn't otherwise find/see/experience. So, in our case, difficult to find caches are no problem. If we find it, great. If not, no biggy as we got to experience what we came for, and the cache was just the excuse, not the holy grail to be obtained at all costs. We usually spend a bit of time searching and if we find it we stand back and enjoy the area. If we don't find it, we stand back and enjoy the area. Probable not a great pure cacher attitude, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  12. Welcome AnnieLoups to GC. Geocaching is a fun and rewarding hobby. A word of caution, don't believe everything you read on GC, or anywhere for that matter. Example: Recently my wife and I were following a line of caches in a remote area of Tucson. We found most of the ones we looked for, signed the logs and had a nice day in the country. About halfway through, I noticed that two cachers had logged the same caches we found with dates/times earlier in the day. Not one of the paper logs were signed/stamped by those two. There were no footprints in the dusty soil and several of the caches had not been disturbed for months. They also logged a find on a cache I am pretty sure has been awol for at least two years. No found logs, lots of DNFs and the area has been graded to make way for a new road. That cache is not there. Later I checked some other caches in the area on GC.com and found these same two had logged a "ton" of caches in the area. The next day we drove over and found three differed caches they had logged the day before. Not one paper log was signed/stamped by either of them. Both of these "cachers" had thousands of finds all over the country. Am I accusing them of fraudulently logging these caches? Not exactly. However, take what you see, with a grain of salt. Just like anything else you read/hear. To answer your original question, if you want to pile up stats of finds, look for power trails and other lined up caches along roads, power lines etc. I don't find those much fun unless they are in a remote area, but to each his own. We cache mostly in rural areas for the express reasons of enjoying the great outdoors in beautiful remote areas that we would never have known existed. WE combine our three favorite things, travel, GCing and hiking. GCers place caches in some very neat and beautiful places and we are grateful for that. SE7
  13. I cache as it takes me to interesting/beautiful places I would have never known existed. PS, I mostly cache in remote places, where I spend most of my time.
  14. Me too, sort of. I have wondered what source is being used to populate the trails in GC. I tried to look it up once but got discouraged and quit. So, where does GC get the trails from?
  15. Sorry, my post was about the Android app. Not sure about the Iphone app. On android, the favorite button is a heart icon. You might want to re-post over in the Iphone discussion section. SE7
  16. Hi there. Thanks for reporting your problem. I'd love to track down the issue if there is one. Can you give me a list of the steps you're going through to reproduce the problem and describe what happens when you go through those steps? Any screen grabs and/or info about your app version and OS version would also be very helpful. Thanks! Thanks for the offer. Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.01 Geocaching 4.10 (not classic) I am a current premium member with 16 favorite points available Find cache. Go to "log Geocache" Choose "Found it" Type Text for log Touch Heart Icon, it turns green Save log by touching check mark The app saves the log, marks GC as found, but does not designate the GC as one of my favorites nor does my favorite point totals change. Verified log save and favorite failure on GCing .com upon return to home base computer. I have tried three different times to mark a GC as a favorite at time of find. Same non-result chronicled above. I did go back and favorite one of the failures from the Geocaching web page. However, I have left the last failure as is to prove the point. Last failure = GC12Y8N East of the pass. So far, GC support has been no help. They asked me to reinstall app which I did. I reported back to them that it didn't work, no response from GC support. If you need anything else, let me know. Thanks. SE& Hello again! I just gathered a little more info and learned that we fixed a bug very similar to yours in our latest release (5.0.1). That release is currently trickling out to Android users; you may see it available to you later on today. Once you have the update, can you try again and report back whether your issue is resolved in the new version? Thanks! Ben Thanks for the reply. I also heard from CG HQ support with same message. Will wait for V5 and post results. Thanks again. SE7 GC HQ suggested waiting for latest release of GC app. That did fix the bug of the favorite not working on my phone when logging a GC. Thanks to all and GC HQ for the help. SE&

  19. Thanks for the response. My app also shows the heart icon, it just doesn't work/do anything. I'm communicating with GC HQ Support trying to find a solutions to this non-working feature. I'll post something when/if issue is resolved. Thanks again. SE7
  20. Thanks for the response. I'm feeling better than I'm not crazy. Well, maybe crazy, but not about this heart/favorite thing. I'm going to go over and try to report this as a bug in the Android app. Thanks again SE7
  21. Thanks for the response. I'm still confused about how/whether or not one can designate a favorite in the Android Geocaching app. When I go to Log Geocache, then Found it, the resulting screen has a heart and camera icon on it, plus the text area. When I touch the heart icon it changes from blank to green. If I then complete the log by entering text and touching the check mark to save and complete the log all seems well. However, the cache is not marked as one of my favorites. So, what purpose does the heart icon serve? Is it supposed to log this cache as a favorite? It doesn't for me. All this is on a Samsung Galaxy S5 running Android v 6.0.1 and version 4.10 of Geocaching (not classic). I checked the Google Play Store for an update for the Geocaching app, not yet available. I am a long time premium member and have plenty of favorite points. So, Can I designate a favorite on the Geocaching app? If so, how. Thanks for any help on this. SE7
  22. I know this sounds stupid, but... Is the Heart icon on the log geocache found it screen supposed to add that geocache to my favorites? I have activated the heart icon thinking it would designate that GC as a favorite, but that is not what happens. Am I incorrect in my assumption about the function of the heart icon? Or am i somehow miss using it? I did complete the log and the GC shows as found, but does not show as a favorite. By the way, I have 16 Favorite Points remaining according to my profile. What am I missing? Thanks SE7
  23. Thanks for the info. I messaged GS and will await a reply. Your idea to update TB log was a good one that I will implement. Thanks again
  24. I'll try to make this brief. In January of 2010 i grabbed a TB while caching with my then son in law to be, now never son in law. He was to take the TB to Chicago and drop it. never happened and the bug is gone. It is still in my inventory. I messaged the owner a few months after that and told him/her what happened and promised to try and retrieve the TB. If is now clear that is not going to happen. The owner is now inactive on GC and GS. So, my question is this: What can I do to get the TB out of my inventory? Thanks for any direction you can provide. Soaring Eagle 7
  25. Thanks to all for the responses and advice. The TB is still in my physical possession. I have locked the page for now and will decide later what to do with this one. I have 3 more never activated TB tags and will be more careful if I activate those. Thanks again for all your help. SE7
