  1. I here you about the old eyes. I just had eye surgery and discovered that overnight I could not refocus on my 60 CX quick enough while driving. I bought one of those big screens but it was only marginally helpfull so I took it back. I need a clear highly contrasted font. I was thinking that they could have an option (because everyone will not need it) to turn on a "magnifier"around the cursor. I have seen this on computers where when you move your cursor over an icon for example it bubbles and enlarges and as you move along the image gets smaller in it's wake. The other thing I would love to see is voice command and voice labeling for streets (again, you have to be able to turn it off) so that when you want you can have streets anounced say 100 meters (user adjustable) before. Shabby.
  2. Thanks for the responses. I can't see me purchasing any software as this is a company trip and I will probably never go to Austria again. As far as seeing the base map, I think I only have a North American base map and not a world wide one. Wayne.
  3. I may be travelling to Austria in January and was thinking that my 60cx might come in handy. I only have North American maps. I am guessing that I will only see a course arrow or track. Is this correct? I am also assuming that I will have no problems using it there. Thanks in advance, Wayne.
  4. I am pretty sure that while driving to work on more than one occasion my 60Cx had 3 sats solid and coould not get a solid fix on any more and after a while it displayed "poor satellite reception use with GPS off?".
  5. Yeah, what Sputnik 57 said. Anyway, I guess I have an answer to my question. There is nothing wrong with my GPSr. Thanks for all your imput.
  6. As mentioned above I know with Magellans 3 sats will give you 2D and 4 sats will give you 3D. I just wanted to make sure that the Garmin techs did not know what they were talking about. Just kidding if they are reading this. I also asked the last tech about almanacs and he said he never heard of it and they never sent anything down about almanacs to him. Oh well, the 3 or 4 sats is not a huge deal as I usually get more anyways, I just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with my unit-my 60Cx that is.
  7. I have spoken to 2 different techs at Garmin and both say that you only need 3 satellites to get a location. I have had my 60Cx wait for 4 bars on more than one occasion before it gives a position. It even shows virtually 3 full bars but will hold on for that 4th satellite. Anyone else notice this? Garmin has no answer. Thanks in advance.
  8. I turned off autozoom and that solved the first problem. I spoke to Garmin and the tech said that by default it will revert back to the map page. The page that I prefer to used while navigating happens to be the turn preview page which only appears when there is a next turn. The map page can only be configured to display the info that I want (the info that is on the turn preview page) all the time or none of the time. I would like to see the map without any info at all when not navigating but with upcoming turn info all the time when navigating. I do not want to go into the menu and change the number of data fields when I am driving.
  9. I am using V8. Today while travelling from Brampton to downtown it said to "keep right to collectors" when coming from the 409. I however preffered to go into the express on account of the construction. It could not tell that I was in the express and not the collectors. I am however very impressed so far how it knows when you can't turn at a street. Yesterday I used it to go from the airport to downtown and it kept telling me to turn left when I was in the core. It was trying to get me to come from the west (to go east onto Gerrard). I kept going north with the intention of turning west at Gerrard. You cannot turn left (west) onto Gerrard fom Yonge. When I got to Gerrard it told me to turn right and when possible make a U-turn. I thought that was really cool. Then because it was not safe to do so I kept driving and it recalculated and sent me around and back to where I needed to be.
  10. Okay, I never though of that. But what about when it switches to the map page from the navigation page (It looks like the map page but it has upcoming turn info on it)?
  11. I just noticed that when my 60Cx does a off route recalculation it zooms out to 12 kms and goes to the map page from the turn page I had it on. Has anyone else noticed this? It is very annoying and more distracting than usual to have to change pages and zoom in while driving. DHATW.
  12. I got on the 401 at Keele Street, first place to transfer to the express is at Young St. I exit at Whites Rd in Pickering. Transfer from Express at collectors is at Meadowvale. As I entered the 401 the next instruction was "exit Whites rd,?? Km” It never said to transfer to the express but the map showed me (when zoomed in) that I was in the collectors. I took the transfer but the 60cx didn't beep or give me a new instruction till 1.5 km from the whites’ rd exit.... thus being too late. If it wasn't so late at night i would have loved to stay in the express and see what it would done... my guess would be to indicate I missed my road and recalculate (if the 60cx does this) me to exit at Brock. For the last several years I have been using a StreetPilot III in the car with Metro guide Canada and more recently City Nav V7. The SP always told me to transfer between the collectors and Express. I have been told City NAV V7 will not work on my 60cx so I reloaded Metro guide. The upgrade has had to wait since I went over budget last week on the geocaching GPS, but glad I did. The 60Cx will recalculate. You can set it to "promt" or auto recalaculate. That is interesting with the exits. I will have to try and see if mine does the same with CN V8.
  13. I do not understand what you mean by "it would have let you stay in the express until it was too late". Does it not say to stay in the express or keep right to collectors or some such a phrase? CN V8 does. So far as I can tell anyways. It will not let you miss an exit to collectors if you have an upcoming exit to make. I have not tried every scenario of course but so far it seems to direct fine, as far as express and collectors anyway.
  14. Okay, so I routed from Steeles and Torbram in Brampton to Yonge and St. Claire area. City Navigator 8 did direct me to stay in the collectors at one point. And I tried it at home in demo mode and it made several references to collectors and express. It did however make a mistake in its routing. It stated at one point that I should stay on "Hwy 401 E to Hwy 409 E" when it was the other way around. If I was from out of town that could have been a real pain. I guess it could be Metro Guide that does not show the difference between collectors and express.
  15. I have a Cx and I will try and remember to route home when I leave work. I use both collectors and express on the way home. The only difference is I use City Navigator NT V8.
  16. If I am correct the Software version refers to the firmware of the GPSr which is currently at 3.0 and the GPS SW version refers to the SiRF chipset which is currently at 2.7 (2.8 apparently in the newer versions).
  17. I may be wrong about this but I discovered that you can create tracks with mapsourse. The part that I might be wrong about is, can you not draw a track and navigate it in the GPS? There is no recalculation of a track I believe. Could this not work for what you want? Okay, I tried it and it seems to work. I did not have a signal lock but when I tried to navigate it only asked if I wanted to lock on road or navigate route. You can draw a detailed track with a pencil icon or click on each intersection that you would like to turn at. You can also reverse the track of course.
  18. Well, I have tried it with both high and low details, zoomed in and out, Topo and City Nav. and I still think it is slow. Now, I am not saying it does not get better with less detail or zoomed it or with Topo, I just feel that it is slowww. Now this is also my first mapping GPSr and I have no personal comparison. I just heard that the x series have a fast redraw rate and processor and I wanted to make sure that something was not terribly wrong. I also have only noticed it when I hold down the arrow key for a long time and scroll forever which is probably not real world usage. Thanks for all your imput.
  19. I have a video demo that some guy did with a side by side comparison of the C and Cx panning. I think he is using Topo though and do not know if he has a small or large amount of maps. It does show the Cx redrawing pretty quickly though. That is why I raised the question in the first place. It only happens when you are at the higher soom levels (300m or higher) at the closer zoom levels it is not too bad.
  20. Hi all, this is my first post after lurking about for a few weeks now. I just opened my 60 cx on my 40th birthday last Wednesday. I actually picked it up myself but my wife would not let me have it until my actual birthday. Thank goodness for this forum and online user's manuals. So, to my question. When I pan with City Nav. NT I get a long delay before it redraws. Now I suspect it is just because of the amount of info but just checking. It has also gone "screen blank (white)" on me twice while panning and when I pushed the power button it restarted (right from the welcome screen) without any further problems. I have tried loading less maps but that does not seem to make a measureable difference in redraw time. Thanks for your responses in adcance. DHATW.
