  1. I have yet to do any of the Cheesequake cache's so I would defiantely be interested in a day trip to the area to bag some. The real question is when. Have a boy scout outing this coming weekend, then the next few weeks will be busy with the Holidays. How does Jan. look for you? Any others looking to do some Cheesequake caches?

Bag either the http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=24963, or http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=20291 between now and 12/15...... The guantlet was throw down. How could I resist. The question is which one to do, ahh well....I did them both Mother Nature (God bless her soul) helped out quite a bit as the ground was fairly firm for both hunts. Many water crossings were covered with enough ice to simply cross (a few had to waded). Time to rest these weary dogs though.... Going to log my visits now.
  3. No problem. I wasn't sure how to take your post and just want to make sure that it was clear that I was growling about gladware in general and not that particular cache, or owner, etc. If I used more caution, I wouldnt have broke it. No more Spinach and Wheaties combo for my moring meal.

If you can't be civil around temporary employees (and how the heck did you know they were temps, anyway?), I suggest you leave and come back for the cache at another time. Sheesh. hmm...In my original post, I was referring to the outside temperature being in the 30's. At that level, the glad ware containers tend to become somewhat brittle do to their compostion/construction. The fault was all mine and I am not angry witht he cache owner, just with myself. Sorry if I miscommunicated this in my original post. Your right people have every right to cache hid or hunt as they will.

  6. Well, was out this morning on the way to work and stopped by a new cache "Bird Brain". The temps were down there (30's) and sure enough I cracked the lid on this cache! I left some money for the cache owner to replace it, but I'm growling about the gladware itself. This stuff just gets too brittle in the cold temps. I have noticed a few caches that use gladware and the lids have cracks so this wasnt isolated. Tupperware seems to hold up better as I have yet (im my young GC career) find one that was cracked. Ill need to use more care and maybe not eat my Wheaties before hunting. Anyone else notice this too?
  7. Its snowing pretty good here. I had a hard time back tracking on some as the tracks were starting to get covered up! Was visiting in the Clark/Rahway area of NJ I believe. []
  8. Woke up early this morning (5:45) and we already had a lite dusting of snow on the ground. Strapped on the snowshoes and went off to geocache. Found 4 to start the morning. Each a bit harder as the snow was getting thicker and deeper. Was worried about the GPS reception but as long as i was patient, it always led me true. Couldn't find the 5th this morning though. (Mohawk-1) the spot seemed to be an obvious one, but the hidey hole was bare. Anyway, I must say, snow hunting is a bit harder, but the woods were magnificent! So quiet and peaceful and quite beautiful to behold. Going home now to warm up.
  9. Me being just a rookie and starting out a month ago, I got to say I like the adventure of the hunt. Went out to Mopar's Revenge on the King in that particular swamp. On the way visited Teddy Roosevelt (unsuccessful in finding the cache). I really enjoyed those hunts. Im over near Somerville so I havent worked my way East to some of the swampier ones, but hopefully will soon. Now seems to be the time to visit these places and the vegitation is less and there dont seem to be the biting insects you would normally get in the summer. I would say that I prefer hunts were you are more out of the way. Rather than .14 from the parkling lot and then 30 feet off the trail, I would rather seem them .5 - 1.5 miles in the middle of nowhere, but thats me. Enjoy them all though. Been a month since I started this hobby so I should probably put some caches []
  10. Well, after I posted above. I went out to revisit 1 of the Kings caches I mentioned above. Teddy is to far out in the swamp to go again, unless im prepared and have a clue. The hour I spent searching that site yielded me no cache. Minute I've checked several times hoping the sparser leaf cover will give me a better pinpoint each trip. I drive by the park on my way to work so once a week or so I give that one a shot. So, that left Trollsbane. Went out there today and I did indeed find that cache. With the right equipment this is a not so bad one. Alas Magoo brought no equipment and it was quite a challenge. hmmmm..... You say the minute is small... smaller than a 35mm film canister?? BP, I have only tried the three I mentioned above because of their proximity to my location. Ill have to head a little further and try some of the others. Still just a rookie though, so it may be a while before I try
  11. Well I just started caching this fall and have snagged a number of caches in the past few weeks. my 3 sons (Team Narf) love hunting as well. Most of the ones we have done, weren't to difficult, but in an effort to do all the ones in the area, we have encountered 3 cache's hid by the insidious King Pellinore. I first tried "minute" which was an easy walk and very close to work. I have been back a number of times without success. I also tried Trollbane and the Teddy Roosevelt. I searched for about an hour for Teddy without success, then proceeded on to "revenge on the king" and found that one in 10-15 minutes. I love a good hunt and walking the swamp was actually not bad, but I just cant seem to find the King's cache's! Maybe after finding the first one, it will reveal how he thinks. Just wondering if you all find his cache's difficult as well? Mr. Magoo
  12. EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) has club days twice a year where EVERYTHING is 20% off. Between that and the $50 rebate. it dropped it down to $150 so I couldn't wait and picked one up! Still learning it (my first GPS) but so far I like and have found 2 cache in 2 days
