  1. Indeed, I have visited Swamp Thing twice and notice some large 'holes' in the field. Are you finding something modern (Lord's Stirling's era?) or something anicent (a prehistoric fossil bed?) Guess I should click on your site to see "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  2. quote:Originally posted by orange:I agree it is a minor annoyance but Magoo fell for same trap I did. plz remember I am Magoo, I fall for such traps "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  3. you mean Return of the King unknown. I actaully saw this show up on the NJ map page (looking forward to Jeremy's new map page - miss theold one which showed which you had been to). I dont think it ever went live as far as i could tell. "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  4. You know...In typically nearsighted Magoo fashion I failed to see that the combonation rocks cache in their profile was from 2002 not 2003! However, I did visit the afore mention Alluvial Material today. The last vistor was non-other than Team Epitome! They came by for a maintenance visit. They did mention in their log entry that they would be trying to place another cache this Spring. That's what actually prompted me to click on their profile and then jump to a false hope..lol... So it isnt here (yet), but it might be coming soon! Ill be keeping a watchful eye (not that these eyes are any good). Read the brief history on Combonation Rock. It is amazing that a cache so hard to reach and remote could be plundered, what are the chances? Then again, I think there is no spot to remote for the occasional soda can to appear these days. Truly amazing sometimes how far somepeople will carry their stuff only to leave it behind. 5. Most folks know Team Epitome for the cache they have hidden call "Alluvial Material". Well hold on to your seats folks because i suspect a second cache is about to hit. from thier profile page ---> Team Epitome profile You can see it says 2 caches hidden, clicking on it reveals only Alluvial, also see the note at the bottom. This cache maybe awaiting approval but might be here shortly. BP, we need to meet up again so i can plant a tracking device on you "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  6. I too use the eTrex Legend (v 2.50 currently) WAAS was working for me today. Lots of little D's and usually about 9ft of accy. Bagged another cache and some BM's today "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  7. Indeed SCALED and ADJUSTED is important. I've found marks over 200 feet away from where the GPS said they sould be so for SCALED, definately dont trust the GPS fully. For me, I only log a mark as destroyed if I have proof of such. I.e. A 1933 wooden water tower/tank that is now nothing but a vacant lot, etc. I still document the site with a photo. I usually use the descriptions as they seem to be fairly reasonable. I agree , use close references first as they are easier and have less margin for error on your pacing. I also try to use more 'solid references'. Poles get upgraded over the years and a new pole typically will be at least 3 feet removed from its predessor. In my area the pole # might be the same but they add an additional suffix usually after upgrading. I like using Manholes, sewer inlets , fire hydrants as they tend to be even more 'solid'. I pace first, then probe for the mark if its just under the surface. Most times you'll see the telltale depression. Next I'll measure, then finally I break out the metal detector and sweep the immediate vicinity. If I still i cant find, ill log a DNF, you never know another cacher my yet find it. If I've exhausted my techniques and felt I did everything that was resonable, then I dont comeback. If I felt there was more 'validation' I could do, I go back. 8. Look forward to reading many more log entries from you this spring! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  9. Try k-9 via the lower trail. The falls arent from a dramatic height, but the cascading and surrounding scenery are well worth the trip. "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  10. Well I went ahead and ordered a bunch so i could stash some in some caches thanks for the info! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  11. Acutally going up to Mass. to back the AT from the 28th thru the 30th with some boy scouts. My last "free" weekend before Little League starts full speed. "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  12. Your Majesty! Your loyal surf wishes to congratulate you on passing the century mark! Your humble servant Magoo "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  13. I came across another thread that had numerous places to order from like. Stamp-connection.com and Stampman.com. Seems easy enough, but what better excuse than to go visit a remote cache somewhere! So if you know of one, let ol' magoo know , otherwise I order one come April. Tx "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  14. I been doing the Where George thing now since I started Geocaching and I had seen (at least once in one of BrianSnat's caches) where someone (Brian in this case i think) had placed a WG Stamper. I would love to get my hands on one. I check teh WG site but they dont offer them for sale anymore. Does anyone know of a Geocache that might have a WG stamp in it? Would make a special trip for it and will trade up. Tx , Magoo "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  15. Living in NJ , there is an abundance of both caches and BM's. Just started BM hunting a little over 2 months ago and have many more yet that are reachable from my home. Location, location, location.... "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  16. An amazing accomplishment truly. These guys get around as well. The have cache finds all over! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  17. Congrats! Its a tough time of year to do 100 to! Me thinks I better get back on the stick, enough benchmarks for now. "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  18. Bravo!! The Lowly Magoo hopes to reach such heights someday! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  19. Indeed, I didnt want to *toot* my own horn, but tx Team Ekitt10 for the kind post. The 2 Magoo Missing Money caches (although i havent been to check) should be just fine for some snow cachers out there. There both within 500 feet of parking as well so no long hikes through the fluff. Team Ekitt10's Where George cache might not be to bad and should be a short walk from the car. Wonder how "Where George Exchange" & "Joe Blow" did with the recently snowplowings. They might also be in good shape and a short walk. "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  20. Indeed, the metal detector is something i keep int hte back of the car. Some of the markers in my area seem to be just covered over a bit and the metal detector makes it a snap to find the right spot (esp. when reference items arent there anymore) usually the GPS and descriptions are plenty but every once in a while .... "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  21. Thats right folks. Brian broke 100 this week end (at Azog's Groge cache i think). Great job Brian! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  22. mr.magoo

    Nicely done

Excellent job! Hope to get out there after the snow and find a few more my self. See ya on the trails! "Problems are merely opportunities for interesting solutions which can be implemented by those with the courage to be different."
  23. Mopar, What have you done! LOL, I was the finder of the afore mentioned cache that had been missing in the swamp for 8 months. I was surpirsed to find this thread that got started. I dont know for a fact that the greenish sheet was RITR other than the loggers on line log and the last line on the green sheet which says "This is Rite in the rain paper!" It is hard to say what happened for those 8 months in the swamp. The RITR paper was more fragile and much harder to recover. Then again I dont really know what the original log sheet was that is the compared to item. It may have been as thick as card stock when it started which might give it the edge for survival.
  24. I'm most honored your Highness Just doing my duty Your humble serf, magoo
  25. I hiked the AT through Harrimon last year. Some decent hills to climb through there. I havent done the Long Path though and that cross right through there. I'm actually scheduled to do some Mass. AT hiking sometime this spring. If everyone can nail down a date Ill see if I can mae it. After little league starts its tuff though as I coach 2 teams (have 3 sons). A good idea, lets see if it can happen.
