  1. Time to buy another GPS, it's not gonna go to waste. My wife doesn't enjoy as much as I do, and she has come with me, but never got hooked. So it may not appeal to everybody, but it's a great game and the benefits are greater. Exercise in the fresh outdoors. I used to think "how can somebody get so many caches", cause ther'es only 150 caches within my home co-ords, but while I was in BC, at my sisters place, there was over 6500 within her home co-ords.
  2. Good swag is just a bonus when there is some. I almost always trade up, evidence is usually the next cacher takes what I left. But, I enjoy the hunt, the hike, the scenery and the find. I usually take a dozen or more pics, the dogs and I get a great walk, and the whole experience usually outways the fact that there isn't any good swag. What I feel I get is priceless. What I'm not crazy about is caches that are there just for the fact of being there. Lame caches where I don't feel I need to even take a picture.
  3. Reading all this makes me glad I live where I do. In Canada, we don't have any lock codes, well not in the topo or metroguide.
  4. The love of Nature is in most of us, Geocaching helps remind us. Double post. Getting old, must be repeating myself. LOL

  6. you can go without the maps, but once you have them, you'll wonder why you didn't get them earlier. Maps make a great GPS (60CSX) that much better. The maps may seem expensive, but I got (bought) paper maps from over the years that go beyond the price of the topo's. And once you have the maps, you can print up anyone you want. Canada Topo is pretty awesome, and you can autoroute also. Canada doesn't have any locks on our maps.
  7. usually carry my GPS, my camera bag (with batteries, pen, and mp3 with radio), my PDA, and a swag bag. As for protection, I bring the wife. I don't have to outrun the bear, i just have to outrun her. LOL
  8. i've change (made) my own customize symbols before, but now I can't seem to find where they are. I have a few other customized ones to add but can't find the folder in which they go to show up in mapsource. Confusing, I know I did it before. never mind figured out the custom symbols. Now still would like the new mapsource icons.
  9. How do I get the mapsource symbols to be on my 60CSX. Never notice until now, but the new mapsource (6.12.3) has mystery cache, multi, letterbox cache and some other symbols that are not on my GPS. I've used Ximage to make my own, but it would be nice to have the same on mapsource and the GPS.
  10. using cachestats, you can show your FTF'S on your profile page, that's good enough for me.
  11. Just bought a PalmVx for 39.99 cdn from xcess cargo, set it up for paperless and ready to go, using along with my 60CSX should cut down on the DNF's. No more going home to read the cache because it was a multi or missing, that is as long as I remeber to bring it when I go. LOL
  12. I don't see anything about compass page corrections, will upgrade and see how it works. Have compass page issues since 3.10, never had any before.

  14. Will hopefully be doing about 530 mph on friday on my way to B.C. Looking forward to trying it out on the plane. From what I've read, Air Canada allows the use of a GPS. Yeehah
  15. so far i've travelled about 300kms oneway for a cache by car, 70kms one way by quad, 3kms one way walking, and will be going to Vancouver B.C. next week and although i'm gonna visit my sister, caching was one of the reasons for the trip. (over 3000kms one way)
  16. Just like Geocaching, there's something for everyone. If a cache doesn't appeal to you, you move on to one that does. If a post doesn't appeal to you, you move on to one that does. That's what's so great about it, there's something for everyone. Nobody forces you to do a cache or read a post and no cache or post owes you anything. This is why this game can be played by all walks of life from all different Countries.
  17. since getting 3.10, my compass acts crazy all the time. the hold level never goes away no matter how level it is. It has to be recalculated often. Never had any problems before, but it's really annoying now, gotta recalibrate for every time I get out of my vehicle. Anybody else having the same problems.
  18. Well here's my geohounds Max and Mishu. Two dogs, totally opposite of each other, but get along great and love geocaching. Mishu Max
  19. Since 3.10, even my compass seems to stop working, recalibrate and it's ok but once i've pushed found, have to recalibrate the compass again. Never had these problems before 3.10
  20. Can be done, but the gps is the tool for the game, it's the fun/purpose. It's like fishing without a rod, playing hockey without a stick, can all be done, but not nearly as fun.
  21. Bottom line is the 60CSX is the best. It makes geocaching almost easy. Download caches right to the unit, changes the icon to found and logs the date. Takes you usually within feet of the cache. Can autoroute you from home to a cache. Works where most gps' don't, (tree cover or many mountains). Can get Ram mounts to mount it to bike, quad, ski-doo, cars, and get reception no matter where it's mounted. Lighter plugin so you can save on batteries. expandable memory which can hold all kinds of maps. With street map software (like metro guide) can look up addresses, can find business' with address and telephone numbers. There is so many other features that once you own one, you'll be like most others who own them, find they are the best.
  22. Cool stories: try reading the logs, man there are so many cool stories. The pics are awesome too.
  23. Was taking advantage of the nice weather in Nov and Dec. And here we are now in Feb and it's still great for caching, although a little colder. Usually when I get involved in things, things seem to go downhill, but geocaching has been totally opposite. It's a banner year. Enjoying it now, the spring will bring out the bugs, and they'll be able to carry you to a cache.LOL. Got the bug jackets already to go.
  24. I'll mention 2, a great and a not so great the not so great; Took my wife and 2 dogs with me, trying to get the wife into geocaching, well we find the cache and it is near some falls, so I diceide to get some pictures. Well I have the big dog and she has the small one,and as we are going close to falls/rapids I tell my wife to follow me. I walk out on some rocks and hear "help me" from behind. My little dogs is in the water (it's a calm pool of water on the side), and my wife is sitting/sliding on the rock into the water. I turn and tell her to not move. Had camera,GPS and my big dog all in my hands. place the camera and gps on the rocks and let the dog go and run for the wife. pulled her out and then pulled the little dog out. Well needless to say, my wife didn't have fun. Mind over matter: Me and my son head out on quads on this cache that I had been wanting to do for awhile. Well it's -10 out and the cache is gonna be a 53km ride/hike. Going there we were getting cold because of the opened trails. We even contemplated turning around. Closer to the cache the trails were in thicker woods so it wasn't as cold. We didn't manage to find the trail in, so we ended up getting on the lake which was frozen.Follwowed the lake to the bottom of the hill which the cache was on top. we were pretty warm when we got to the cache. The funny thng is on the way home the sun was going down and it got much colder, but we were so excited that we made this accomplishment, that the cold on the ride home didn't bother either of us. Had a great ride home. All totalled 106 kms and 8 hrs
