  1. I bought it for myself. It works great for fishing but it's not very good for anything else. Perhaps it's just mine but I think not.
  2. No, these are on my SD card and some are for my Nuvi. But mainly I use them for work with a whole heap of others too numerous to mention. A $1,000! Try $26,000 would be more like it but the company pays for them and we share them amongst other company users. I like the 'H' because it's unfussed and delivers what I need for my recreational stuff. For work the 'H' is no good because you have to rely on maps when there are no landmarks to take bearings off of.
  3. Lol, I work in the GIS industry... We at work have these things as drink coasters
  4. Don't get me wrong, my 20 has maps... http://i61.tinypic.com/jrw6t1.jpg ... it's just unreliable.
  5. Took my Etrex 20 for a walk in the city. Latest firms with CN and Topo and Bluechart. All was fine until it CRASHED OUT after just ~30 mins showing no satellites for about a further ~20 minutes to sort it's BS out, then it slowly came back losing all the route info it had just gathered! Rubbishy thing almost got launched into the nearest trash can! This thing has so much potential but can't cut even the most simple things like finding where I left the car. ...seriously though it's not that unexpected for the unreliable 20 but I thought for once this thing could be useful getting around in and around the side streets, NOPE! I guess the oldy goldy 'H' gets first preference again. No maps but it always gets me home, always!
  6. 9 feet radius is above average...
  7. Yes, sometimes with the right info you can recalculate around it... http://www.hamqsl.com/solarsun.php
  8. I hang glide, like up in the sky! Haven't found a cache up there yet but I'll surely log one here if I do... Etrex 'H' has proven itself to be amazingly reliable and accurate. For my sport I need 100% reliability, Etrex 'H' is 100% reliable.
  9. The old Etrex 'H' is still regarded as the most accurate and preferred still by aviators.
  10. YES it sure is and the reason why my 20 stays at home in the drawer and the 'H' comes out to play!
  11. Monterra was my first choice but Etrex 20 won out. Do you think I made the right choice, maybe?
  12. I've got etrex 30 firmware running on an Etrex 20 so I share your quest for a synthetic programming discovery.
  13. Depends on what info is useful. For me the lines offer a quick reference without having to look past the superfluous details. When I need info fast, 'less detail is more info' usually... My eyes are usually always on the landscape while only on the GPS briefly for a location.
  14. Agreed, that's why I just love my Etrex 'H' over the Etrex 20/30 bling box.
  15. Not so, I have never needed to connect it to a computer so it's the easiest and best GPS on the market to use and it's actually the preferred model for aviation because it's the most accurate. It just does not fail to perform!
  16. If you have the cash then any current unit is the easiest to buy... :
  17. This has been fully answered in this thread here... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=322737
  18. Contours are just level lines and topo is shape shadings. Most Garmin topo maps have both contour lines and shading but you can't switch either off. eg... I have them as separate maps and can switch between them. I prefer just the contour lines only, less detail but more info... eg ~

  20. The only real question here is why you bought an Etrex 10 in the first place...
  21. I think you need to get out more You may be right!
  22. I have replaced my topo maps for contours. It's less cluttered with the same info...
