  1. Well, allow me to suggest this location to encounter that as that is where mythology resides. Yes, it is my primary mode of caching now, using the aerial photo imagery on my PN-40. There are two local cachers that have mothballed their G devices and have aquired -40s after seeing how mine works. Team Cowboy Papa, what size SD card are you using? I have a 16gb in my PN30 but it seems that the aerial maps will eat up that card.
  2. My father got it for a few bucks cheaper from crutchfield.com. Ordered last week, should arrive tomorrow. If you have a Bass Pro shop nearby the PN-30 is currently $259.00. I think this price is through the 8/23. I just picked mine up yesterday. Yeah but for the cost of dinner for 2 @ Friendly's you can upgrade to the -40. dakboy, yes, you're right re: the dinner I chose the PN-30 b/c I don't use the compass or barometric altimeter in my application. 99% of my use is in the marshes of Louisiana. You know our state- it's flat or lower than sea level I never used the compass in my Mag. Exp 600. I decided to save a few bucks and take the little lady out to dinner b/f hunting season begins. You know we have to get those brownie points now

  4. The only paperless unit that fits the OPs criteria is clearly the PN-20. Rockin Roddy, have you had a chance to "test" the new lowrance endura? I'm leaning towards the PN-30 but sure like the screen size of the Endura. I've been using my mag.exp 600 for quite a while and have been used to the small screen size like the PN-30. But, it sure would be nice to have the larger screen of the Endura-if it can "matchup" similar to the PN-30. thanks
  5. I saw that unit, but I was afraid to get it because of two reasons: 1) I've never heard of the brand 2) It's only $199.99 Retail, which means I could (already did) find this unit for $150 on the internet, which is under budget, so I don't want a poorer model. How could I get it to be paperless without the paid membership, could I still press the send to GPS button on a cache listing and still work? take a look at look at delorme's site: www.delorme.com I've been very impressed by user's responses on their delorme PN-40 and now the PN-30 is even priced better.
  6. yes, the firmware is the same in the pn 30 as the pn 40 ( i don't need the compass/barameter that's in the pn 40). I am already familiar with the screen size on the pn 30. Its the same as my exp 600. I've examined the pn 30 many times in stores recently. Again, same screen size as what I've been using. But, I've been impressed with the chipset and the fast redraw times using a variety of maps that the pn 30 offers. If the delorme would use the same hardware/firmware in a larger screensize-say 2.7, i'd pick it up today. Since I've started researching the lowrance safari it appears promising but besides the larger screen I can't find any user info/feedback to help me decide if I should lean to the safari over the pn30. I guess i'm very impressed with the pn 30 but for, the screen size. If the safari user feedback was great or very similar to the pn 30 that would probably send me over to the safari.
  7. One other thing you may want to check out on the PN-30 is that it has the ability to run Navionics lake charts/hot maps. The inshore waterways you're referring to might be available. Thanks for the info Pax42. I do like the use of aerial maps and your note re: the Navonics hotmaps. That bigger screen on the lowrance safari is really holding me up. I wish the pn-30 had the 2.7 screen. I've been using my mag explorist 600 for awhile which has the same size screen as the PN-30. While I've gotten by just fine with that size, the larger screen is really tempting. If the Safari was equal to the PN-30 in all regards except screen size, the screen size would push me to it. decisions, decisions...
  8. i understand that the PN-30 uses a dual chipset. Delorme claims the dual chipset is what enables the unit to process so much faster than other units on the market now. I haven't read which chipset the lowrance uses. Does anyone about that issue?
  9. I'm ready to buy another unit. I've narrowed it down to the Delorme PN30 & the Lowrance safari. I like the reviews noting how fast the PN30 is. I also like the aerial maps on the PN30. But the safari appeals to me b/c of the larger screen. If the PN30 had a larger screen i'd probably go with it. I mostly use my gps for outdoor activities, inshore waterways throught the marshes down in south Louisiana. What say ye on the choice of these two units? thanks.
