  1. I have tried to log in via the new webpage but the "Log In" button does not launch. Cute videos are catchy, but do nothing for me if I can't log in. I hunted around for extended urls to the community and logged in via this back door, but all attempts to go back the main page have me locked out and no way to log in. Using Windows 8.1, for the record. What's up?
  2. Wow...who knew there were so many choices! I switched to an Eveready charger/batteries about a year ago...It is fast, charges in 20 minutes or less and came with a car jack..so I can always have spares ready to go, charging as I drive to a location. They last soooo much longer the disposables that I have stopped using them all together and use these for my camera as well.
  3. Got our Dakota 20 2 weeks ago or so and love it. I went to the Garmin site and downloaded the latest beta updates so not sure what issues there may have been. Only issues we are having is that we haven't learned all this little unit can do. So far it couldn't be more perfect for us. It got banged around and rained on today and worked just fine. I would have considered the Oregons but their prices were a bit out of my league and the deal on the D20 was just too good to pass up.
  4. Don't feel bad..I spent two full days on it then passed it on to my software architect husband who spent ANOTHER 12 hours on it... Our solution? We bought a Dakota 20 on sale for a great price...prob solved. We just down load Pocket Inquires direct, get all the notes and the first 5 logs...It has changed our GEO lives...no more struggling over the laptop late at night... The tech page is great but very outdated...I suspect that other aspects have been updated/changed since it was posted.... A note....we did eventually find that the files were there but were hidden in an obscure file folder never mentioned...too much work and we about gave up on Geocaching all together... might be time for someone to update this page....
  5. Like buying anything else, I think it would be helpful to state what your goals are for the unit...Do you want paperless caches? Do you Have to have touch screen etc? I just went thru this..not since I bought my piano did I find such a variety of products to meet ones needs... For the record...we upgraded from an eTrex and a Nuvi to a handheld Dakota 20 just this week..For us after using the old tech (logging on at night, searching, downloading and printing) it is a god send.... We are a family with kids who live near many trails and want to find a new way to explore them... If you mean to climb K2, that's another story..
  6. We just got our new Dakota 20 yesterday and have been outside ever since. The screen is a bit wonky, don't expect the cell phone quality. But it was not bad enough that I couldn't get used to it. Besides, the 13 year old has completely taken over the navigating and his eyes are fine! The big reason for getting it was paperless caching.. love the ability to mark a cache found while out and about to log them later. I was concerned about the smaller size but now think we prefer it. A larger unit would just be clunky. I was going to go for the the model 10 but am glad I went up. That was in big part to a great sale at EMS running now. The 20 is $249.99 with free shipping. EMS Sale till July 4
  7. Oopss $249 but still a great deal and sold! Took it out with the kid this afternoon and worked perfectly! Only wish we had done this ages ago..Paperless is the way to go!
  8. Ugh...Need to get a real GPS..the car dedicated nuvi is just no cutting it anymore. I have a eTrex Legend but gave up on it almost immediately for it's screen. I wear bifocals and find it very hard to read. Looking at the Dakota 10 but EMS currently has the 20 on sale for $239! Not sure if going up a model is best. My biggest question is screen readability.....I have a PalmPre phone and that is great...how does that compare to the Dakota screens? I went to three stores today hoping to see one in action..Not one place could get theirs powered up... Where can you get an Oregon 200? Seem few and far between and I am wondering if this is no long offered by Garmin? Too many choices, prices all over the place....All we want to do is day hike with the kids and take paperless geocaches with us. Any suggestions?
