  1. ...and besides, it's only half of the Monterey Bay on the map. Where is Santa Cruz?
  2. What about national parks? If you have a virtual one could drop a TB in it, can one do this at Waymarking with geocaching bugs? It's nice having virtual caches at National Parks.
  3. Does anyone know where I can find individually wrapped posion oak wipes online?
  4. That is a great deal! thanks, I'm loaded up now for winter caching.
  5. Thanks for everyone's help. I'm now fullly paperless (except I still have my field book, but you can't stamp a palm when you find a letterbox . Thanks team barstool for the mac map link. Any other geo-mac links would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, elizabeth
  6. I'm doing research for a group communications class on geocaching, specifically CITO and other volunteering things that people do who are in this community. It is unique that this sport started up, built a community, looked around, noticed a need and filled it with the CITO events. Most volunteer organizations see a need, then come together to fill it. Most sports, (I’m thinking major leagues) do volunteering as an after thought. So if you have the time, please let me know what you think. Feel free to answer some or all of the questions. This is in no way a scientific study. 1) how long have you been geocaching? 2) How many finds and hides do you have? 2) have you ever attended a CITO event? 3) was your CITO experience a good one? 4) would you do another? 5) do you do other volunteering, if so, what? 6) would you like to see this community do other types of volunteering and if so, what? Thanks for taking the time to help me with my project. Cheers, nooks Mod- I've deleted the CITO board posting because I'm hoping for reponses from people whao aren't necessarily interested in CITO.

  8. I'm deleting this over here so I can post on the main board.
  9. Now that winter is here, I would like to buy bulk mini and micro mini LED flashlights. Keychain types would be great to put in caches. If you know of a bulk or cheap online source, I would love to know. thanks, nooks

  12. Mac Help, please! OK, have my file after becoming a premium member. I did not know that sharing a single .gpx file would be breaking the rules. But now what? when I open macconvert and check all the boxes. I don't get a highlighted box to save. Macconvert d/n have help. Thanks to all you kind souls, willing to help.
  13. Held a DD coin before sticking it into a great local cache. It was wonderful. I would love a gold one. Thanks! Nooks
  14. I took three coins to yosemite in hopes of finding a cache nearby. I didn't have time. But I wanted to log them in anyway. So I did, into to a virtual in the park. Then I took them out when I got home and placed them in real caches. Is this considered ok? Newbie asken questions, thanks for being nice nooks
  15. I'm STILL using google earth. There is a measuring tool that allows one to measure out feet and miles. Using "pathways" enables you to actually measure a routealong a road or trail. Use the point-to-point feature to measure from known landmarks to the geocache location. This is how I'm still finding caches that are not under tree cover, triangulation on the ground, instead of sats. . The resolution is actually pretty good, but in areas that we don't know, we might have to go back twice. When we are working in an area we know well, we've had great success. Personally, I find using this method to be very gratifying, rather than plugging in coordinates and having the GPS tell me where to go. Don't get me wrong. I have a cheap, yellow GPS but I still use google earth most of the time.
  16. Look, I'm new to this. After my first find, and finding a really kewl coin that had a specific mission, which I was more than happy to comply with, I was hooked. I LOOK for those icons and go to caches specifically to try and find those coins. I don't have a problem if they have been drilled and gegaws attached, if it will keep them in circulation longer. Sometimes, I carry around the undrilled ones for a day or two admiring the coin then, happily after work, back into a cache it goes. I like the coins. I especailly like enjoying them and passing them on. I know this will wear off. But I'm enjoying it for now. I have only once found a coin that wasn't logged, but I noted that I took it in the log and it showed up later and the poster emailed me to log the coin. She had been on vacation out here.
  17. Just getting started with cachemate and I need a .gpx file. Anyone got one they can send me? I know, I know, I can get them if I am a premium member. And I will be happy to do this once I know I can get this working. I'm an average mac user (10.3.9) with a Tungsten T I just happened to have lying around. So, can anybody point me in the direction of a test file, or can you please send me one. Thanks, nooks

    Server down?

Are you telling me that it hasn't been working since my last post, or are you complaining about an earlier incident? If it was more recent than, say, my last post, I need to know when and what the error could be. I want to note that I'm on a Ibook g4 and until yesterday (10/25) I never got the server busy error that everyone has complained about here. I upgraded my version of firefox and then I got the error. Of course, this is probably an anomoly. But are there software/hardware preferences that seem to work better, forgive me if this is off topic. Also, I got the server busy error this AM (PDT) until 2 hours ago. I know, if I were geo caching now, then I wouldn't be noticing, unfortunately, I'm working. (sigh!).
  19. I would take a 10 pack, if there are any left. Elizabeth "nook" Ps Hi quigs, almost ready to release my Miscreant Roberts of the Royaliste Tall ship coin.
  20. I would like a copper one. After all, it's a v. good likeness of me
  21. Hi Todd: I'm ready to move this coin along. How can I activate it? Thanks!
  22. Thank you, Landsharkz! But this doesn't seem to work for me. My coin is not in your db. I got the coin from Mr. Quigs himself. Does that matter?
  23. Scissors! Is that scissors I see on an airplane! I hope you don't run with them. :b
