  1. 30" of snow on the ground in the last 24 hours. Time to go geocaching? Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  2. I don't know if it's just me, but if it is, it's limited to this site alone, so just thought I'd mention it. Frequently browsing the forums, and using the "back" button, instead of getting a page displayed, I'm getting a page full of raw code. Not raw code as in "show source" mind you, but raw code in the form of the cookie insertion code, all scripting etc just like I had the raw source page off the server instead of the processed page source. Browser is IE6 with the Feb Security updates on XP Pro with all patches if it helps anyone debug. It happens enough I can easily do a cut and paste if one of the admins would like it forwarded.. Regards, Roger Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  3. Buy the Vista. I can get most of three states on mine. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  4. It's a nice unit. I looked at it long and hard. I had the following issues with it though... 1: Much less memory than the Streetpilot III. Since many of our trips were longer distance it would require reloading maps mid-course. I've gone to FL and back from VA and was able to load all the needed maps. I have a trip loaded now from VA to Yellowstone and back, and can *almost* get the whole trip on. Right now I have 4 full states loaded with room to spare. SPIII also has changeable memory cards, V doesn't I believe 2: Marginal screen at a distance. Much better screen on the SPIII. Much easier to see, especially at night. My eyes aren't what they used to be. 3: No Voice Prompting. In my case I may need to get the rig across lanes of traffic, SPIII starts talking to me usually 2 miles before a turn that it's upcoming. I can then keep my eyes on the road instead of the unit. May seem trivial to some, but if you've driven a large RV rig around, you feel for the tractor trailer drivers out there. People cut you off at will, you have enough to deal with just driving. Not knocking the V, it's a nice unit. Uses the same maps as the SPIII. Unlock once on either and you have the whole country if you buy the Deluxe unit. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  5. OziExplorer is probably your best bet. I have the same setup as yours. Found nothing I was truly happy with and bought a Vista. Hope you have better luck. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  6. Get the Streetpilot III. It's portable so you can put in in a toad, it has voice so you don't have to watch it, and it doesn't get in the way like a laptop. We got into Geocaching after having bought the SPIII, and now have it and a Vista. I've used Travroute Pocket Co-Pilot, and Mapopolis on a PDA with a Navman reciever, and a laptop with both Streets & Trips and Rand McNally with a Pharos mouse GPS. The Streetpilot beats them hands down and only needs the City Select maps it comes with, nothing more. We've used it all over the eastern us, and it's never led us wrong. Compensates for low bridges, truck access, weight restrictions when routing in "Truck Route" mode. Truck and trailer I'm 57' long so I can't afford to get in too tight a spot. Never failed on me unless I ignored it! Hope that helps
  7. Why people like this want other people to stop USING the parks. Isn't that what they're there for? I dunno. I think I'd try to run it up the food chain. Looks legit, larimer.org is registered to Larimer County, CO, and the netblock belongs to the Univ. of Co. But if they don't want people using the parks, why not just put up anchor fence and razor wire.... Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  8. I have the Garmin case. Unit can be used inside the case, but it has a cutout to use the existing lanyard attachment point, not creating a new attachment point on the case. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side

  10. Personally I'd buy a base etrex before I'd buy a GPS addon for a PDA. That's from someone that owns one. There are some great programs for vehicle use with a PDA, Mapopolis and Destinator come to mind. At $89 for Mapopolis and/or $249 for Destinator you've now paid for a base yellow eTrex. Neither of those two programs will do waypoint routing in the boonies based on co-ordinates. I haven't found one that does, and I have Ostia, Mapopolis, Pocket Streets, and Pocket Co-Pilot Not to mention the chance of dropping your Axim on a rock, or in a stream. Just my thoughts.. 12. Get yours straightened out? Like to know before I "take the plunge" with updating mine. Thanks! Roger Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  13. The one local to me is selling it for $99 Hope that helps.
  14. We cache with three children. Usually they all find something they want to trade for, sometimes they don't. If they don't, we'll still usually have them trade up a nicer item for some small trinket in the cache. Always a one for one with frequently an extra thrown in. 15. But considering I run all of Gillette's WWW presence, I'd just consider it a perk :-) What's actually hysterical is that one of the big traffic users to the Duracell site is Eveready! Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side

  17. Probably should be a poll, but I hate polls :-) Scenario 1 - You go to a cache. It's a mess, and logbook is soaked. You have a logbook in your backpack. What do you do? 1) Replace it and remove the soggy mass of log, dry it out and contact the cache owner and mail/deliver it to them? 2) Put the new one in, and leave the soggy old one to grow cultures? 3) Forget about it since the cache owner should know better? Scenario #2 - Similar scenario. You go to a cache and find the container cracked/leaking/full of water. You have a container or two in the car, and it's a short walk. Do you? 1)Replace the container? 2) Forget about it since the cache owner should know better? I know there's no "correct" answer, but I'd be interested in the consensus. Thanks! 23. quote:find a copy of WinME and install it on top of your existing install ...which will restore the corrupted system files ....and fix the majority of problems 9 out of 10 times ... Because ANY windows savvy engineer knows that an in place install that you specify does little to nothing to correct the problems. So I guess the rest of it can be read with the understanding of same level of bull factor. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  24. Make sure you turn the machine off AND unplug the power! First order is to get the side of the case off. I'm not familiar with your machine, but it's either screws or a quick release lever. A manual is a good thing :-) Since your machine is a Rambus machine, there's probably CRIMMS in at least one set of the memory slots. CRIMMS look like memory but have no chips on the boards. They're designed to terminate if there are empty slots. From the docs I can find, your machine has 4 memory slots, 2 populated, and 2 "should" have CRIMMS. Remove the crimms by pushing the connectors at each end toward the system board. Lift them out, and replace them with the memory you purchased. Be sure to ground yourself to the case before you handle the memory. It only goes in one way, so pay attention to the orientation of the slots on the memory. If you have to force it, something's wrong. You'll be left with the crimms unused, put them back in the memory envelope and save them "just in case" Make sure they're pressed in the slots far enough to cause the latches you pushe to remove the crimms to latch the new memory in place Reassemble case, turn on, and enjoy :-) Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
